Hilton Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley

Scotts Valley|1.1km from Walgreens
As I write this review I’ve given myself lots of time to mull over my family’s most recent visit to this Hilton. Here goes, at just after 11:00 pm on a Friday night my wife and retriever arrive to wait to be checked in as the one clerk was helping another guest. The hotel clerk took my name, and credit card, and checked me in, although she didn’t initially bill me for the dog, as she stated “oh you have a pet?”. I said “yes does it not show this in the reservation? She said yes you are on the 5th floor, and asked me again to bill the pet fee, which is a cost of $100.00. Now I already learned this only after I booked this through Priceline. Meaning I paid for my hotel, and only after learned I had to fork over another $100.00, for my retriever. This is one of several times I’ve stayed at this Hilton, at least 3 or 4 times. First with out dog however. Having stayed at this Hotel before they always extended a $30. Credit at the hotel, either bar, restaurant or snack shop. I mention this as I called before I got to the hotel, before I checked in, and spoke with the desk who advised me, I didn’t ask, they told me to ask for Jeremy who wasn’t available at that time, but to ask upon check in if I could use this credit towards the dog fee. I mentioned this to the Hotel clerk, and asked if Jerry was in? She said no, he wasn’t in and that she couldn’t apply any credit and because I booked through Priceline, I wouldn’t be receiving any credit at all. At this point another women appears, and proceeds to tell me “I am very misogynistic“. I asked her “why she felt this way?” She replied I was speaking down to the clerk and being dismissive” she says this while walking away from me. The alarm i didn’t set went off at 6:00 am, tiny little alarm. It would be nice if housekeeping would check, I didn’t. I did go down and meet with Jerry, the next morning, this whole event, from checkin to checkout was eight hours. And nearly $400. I advised Jerry of what transpired, he essentially shrugged his shoulders and confirmed that no credit for this Hilton honors member was correct and that the $100. Fee was not a big deal. Take aways, last time I will stay at this hotel. The next night I was at the Hampton in Oakland and the experience was beautiful. So many other hotels/motels in Santa Cruz that charge between $20-50. for rover. Keep looking, save some money for the nice businesses in Scotts Valley like the Heavenly Roadside Cafe! They were amazing to me and my dog. Didn’t charge extra to do it either. They didn’t call me names either!

Four Points by Sheraton Santa Cruz Scotts Valley

The staff turnaround is awful and they will not honor what the previous employee offered. We booked about 35 rooms for 2 nights and they they could said they could not comp the room for the Bride & Groom. They said we could extend the bar for 2 hours at $150 per hour but changed it to $200 and said well the rate just recently went up. They charged $500 additional for ”outside alcohol” brought in which was in the contract, I personally did not see any outside alcohol, they said they told ”someone” no outside alcohol was allowed but did not contact the person that signed the contract. This was not a private bar night so who knows who brought in alcohol? In addition they charged $243 service charge on the $500 stating this was standard at 27% plus $111 tax on service but said it was not for service? So $853 additional WTH we could have had an open bar with food for that amount. To get a bill for $1254.44 to keep the bar open for 2 hours after we paid for all of our drinks and rooms is outrageous! In addition, they said the bar would be open until 11pm Friday night and even though are guests were at the bar they closed at 9:30. Breakfast in the morning took about an hour as they had 1 cook and 1 waitress although they knew we had a wedding block. They basically said too bad so sad. So frustrated and disappointed!

Best Western Plus Inn Scotts Valley

We lived in this area for 30 years, and after 15 years away, came back for a visit. In my search for a hotel, I found the Best Western was the most affordable. I was very familiar with the location, but had never stayed there. I was pleasantly surprised! The gal at the front desk was very friendly and accommodating. She put us in a room which was on an upper floor, towards the back but away from the pool and highway traffic noise. The room & bed were very comfortable and had a great A/C system with a continuous fan, which was appreciated!!. The grounds and hallways were kept very clean. The breakfast was good with lots of choices and great coffee!! Only complaints, the bathroom area needs a hook or towel bar by the sink to hang towels on and the bathtub should have a bath mat. I had to put down a hand towel on the floor of the tub to keep from slipping. Otherwise - a great stay in the old home town!
