We spent three days at the Biological Station and I think our daughter would have been happy to stay there forever. The accommodations are simple but comfortable and located within walking distance of the main area ... . and the walk is beautiful through the forest. Meals are eaten in a common area with other guests, researchers and staff. The meals are likewise simple but good. The staff here is very helpful in getting you settled in. Laundry is done on campus and available for a nominal charge. There is a nature walk every morning at 8 that is fabulous ... the guides are very friendly and helpful and can point out birds, animals and insects that we would have missed. They provide you with a wealth of information. Guides are also available for hire for private walks, including night-time walks. The rest of the time, you are able to enjoy the extensive trails covering the reserve on your own. Other guests are always happy to share what they've seen and where they saw it ... . very collegial atmosphere and a great introduction to what biological research looks like in real life! We strongly recommend a stay here .....we loved it!

I didn't stay here but spent a day doing 2 x 3hr guided walks. The guides were very knowledgeable and friendly and there was lots to see. Hard work walking in the heat and humidity but would definitely recommend. Make sure you have insect repellent on and carry plenty of water. Mosquitoes bit through my clothing! Restaurant did a nice lunch.

We went on a two hour night walk here and while I know there are no guarantees about what you will see, it was more of just a hike through the forest with not a lot to see except a few insects, toads, and one snake. It was okay, but we just didn’t have that great of an experience here. Make sure you bring water as it is very hot even in the evening. Hopefully if you go you will see more than we did.

Loved lying in bed listening to the wildlife and the rain outside and awakening to the Howler monkeys in the morning. Screens only on the windows so there is little sound privacy between rooms, but the clientele is very respectful. I missed it when I returned to AC. Wonderful guides and wildlife. Try the boat tour!

No where in our travels of Costa Rica did we see more wildlife in a short amount of time then at La Selva Biological Station! They have a team of expert guides and even include a guided-hike with your stay. The staff is incredibly organized so that our entire stay was seamless. We arrived later in the evening and they had an envelope with a map and key waiting for us as well as a hot meal reserved for us. The primary tropical forest here is unmatched in it's beauty and biodiversity. The rooms are simple, but the point is the nature, not a pampered inn.

This property was especially excellent because of its hospitality, value, and quiet, non-touristy environment. Right when we arrived to check in, the staff were smiling and welcoming. They made us feel at home during our stay, and every time we would see them they would be happy to see us. For the price of this stay, there was so much value. Access to a large property, breakfast included, as well as a 3 hour private tour with Octavio. Even though I traveled with a friend with much knowledge in herping, Octavio was excellent at spotting species for us. He was funny and also interested in what we had to say. Being on this property was also nice because most of the people were biologists and researchers from universities. I really enjoyed the non-touristy environment of the area. I would definitely stay again, so much to see and do!
