I really liked the environment and facilities aswell as the service. The bar tenders and servers were super nice and were always ready to serve. My favourites were Melania, Kendall and Hazel. They are very hard working, but work many hours sometimes full days on end.

Shout out to Wendy for booking our excursions. Very helpful and friendly. Kendall and Hazel the best bartenders and beautiful people. Had a great time. Loved the resort. Only recommendation for improvement is the room I was in needs a little freshen up. The staff are so friendly and happy. Grounds and pool are lovely and the beach is beautiful.

This resort is the ultimate place to relax if that is what you are looking for. It was not busy when we were there at the beginning of March. No getting up early for lounge chairs. A couple of times beach chairs were all occupied but we just sat ourselves in chairs at the place next door until something was available on our resort side. No one said a thing about that. Lots of room to swim in the large pool. The only time it got a little bit crowded was when a group of pre teens came for the day. Room: Our room was nice and clean with a king bed, nice bathroom and balcony facing some of the villas and of course trees. We were on the second storey of one of the multiplexes. Air conditioning worked well and was certainly necessary! It was excessively hot the whole week we were there. (40C) The curtains fell down once but the housekeeping called for someone to come hang them back up and it was done that day. We did have one incident where the toilet wouldn’t flush but that may have been due to water being shut off. There were several incidents of power going out in the resort including one full day but I think they were doing repairs that day and they gave us warning. I think that power loss is common in this country in general. It did not affect our stay at all except for missing out on the odd blender drink at the pool bar lol. Something that was missing was bottled water, pop and beer in the hotel room fridges. It would be nice to have water bottles for overnight and a cold beer or pop in the fridge for when you are getting ready for dinner or sitting on the balcony. Food: The food was good. There was only the buffet available, no a la carte restaurant. The buffet had lots of choices for every meal and a made to order grill as well. We enjoyed omelettes and over easy eggs freshly cooked every morning. There was a good serve yourself coffee machine with lattes, espresso etc. or servers also brought coffee to your table. Fruit on the buffet was good however it was not covered and there were always flies on it which turned me off. The soup, pasta and sauce, salad selection, fried chicken and Chinese food were all good. As it goes with a buffet, there were some things that we didn’t like but always plenty to fill us up. It would have been nice if they had at least one a la carte restaurant for something different. We went in to town a couple of times to eat. I would recommend the town of Samara for the beachside restaurants. It is a $10 cab to get there or you can walk about 1/2 hour down the beach (walking at your own risk because it is very hot!!) Pool: The pool was large, fairly deep in some spots, clean and beautiful. It was surrounded by tropical vegetation, trees and flowers. Hummingbirds were always flying overhead in and out of their nest in one of the palm trees. Tropical paradise and so relaxing. One thing to note is that the pool did not close at night which is really nice since it is so hot day and night! The pool bar was nice. Melani

Wonderful week at the villas. The site is really great and the employees are awesome, especially the beautiful Melania at the bar. A great place to unwind and relax. People and nature of Costa Rica are really great. Even the activities are not too costly

Truly enjoyed our stay off season relaxing hideaway with beautiful bungalows. The staff was lovely very gracious and friendly. The food was made to order as the buffet is closed off season so this made our trip. Went out to neighbouring towns walked every where also rented quads in town cheaper the hotel excursions.. we toured the country side that day. The local craft brewery was lovely. Costa Rica’s natural country side and wildlife is truly breathtaking.. please respect your surroundings..

Here now and I can’t wait to leave. It’s absolutely horrible and overpriced. Not very clean, it’s really rundown, we have termites and ants in our bedroom, I can continue but it would be to long. I can only say that the beach it’s beautiful. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

My daughter and I went for 1 week. Staff was excellent, so friendly and helpful. Always helpful. Food was okay, only a buffet was available for all meals. Coffee was an issue as we are early risers and enjoy our coffee on the beach as the sun rises but nothing open until 7am or later. We started getting coffee in the evening and heating it up in the morning in the microwave so we solved that. No cream available so we bought Baileys and solved that too. :) Rooms were very spacious, lots of towels and facecloths. Bad smell coming out the shower drain the first few days but after that it was fine. Nice patio for our room backing onto greenery. Lots of iguanas around and saw 2 parrots at the beach. Rode the horses back from town to our villa. The tide goes out quite far and it's a perfect beach for walking but wear your sandals as the dry sand can be very hot. Never had to search for a beach chair or a palapa. Always one available. Nice restaurants in Samara. Had mahi-mahi and red snapper. Delicious. Debbie

It was a pretty place, big natural beach. The town is an authentic surf town where souvenirs and necities are cheaper than on the resort. The bungalow with its front porch and LG sliding glass door was tranquil. However the water worked half the time, and came half out the celling and half out of the shower head. The base of the shower leaked so what little towels we had needed to go on the floor to prevent slip and falls. Only one buffet was available with a small but decent variety of food. However proper food and safty needs to be observed with the extreme temperatures. Our a la carte was closed for renovation as was the games room. They wouldn't compensate for even one a la carte on the sister resort Azure. Many of the pics shown in the advertisement before purchasing our trip were from Azures making it seem like apart of hotel villas playa samara. Very misleading to a lot of guests. Most of the food is from frozen and it's evident ,dry cakes etc, if mediocrity is what they were going for I'd say they hit theor goal. What upsets me most is its Canadian owned! We paid $50 usd each to eat in the itialian restaurant at Azures it was okay. Waiting for extremely long periods, due to staffing. The staff they do have are way over worked working 12- 14 hour shifts doing multiple jobs and mostly due to lack of proper tools. They are slammed with guests and haveing to do every job including the wait staff hand washimg cups. Some were getting heat sicknes. On the positive side the drinks were good, and the staff they do have are fabulous.

We've been here twice, the first time 7 years ago. Was lovely, so we decided to head back. And unfortunately, we won't visit a 3rd time. It's a great place to visit but there are a few things that folks should know before going. It's still a gorgeous place and now the Azura, a sister hotel, has opened up beside Hotel Villas Playa Samara. Staff were lovey, particularly bar staff, housekeeping and maintenance staff, and giving a huge shout-out to Wendy (who books the excursions) as she went above and beyond. The beach is beautiful; enough chairs though it's a good idea to pick out chairs early if you want a place in the shade. The grounds are also stunning and well maintained, tons of birds around and lots of iguanas. Very cool to see. There are great excursions you can book through the hotel directly, and we found that the price was often quite a bit better than other tour providers. And the guides were so sweet and lovely. Food was okay, there was always something good to eat. However, often times you did not have utensils and/or glasses or mugs on the table. Getting water was often tough, let alone a refill (seemed next to impossible). Again, it's not that it was bad, but staff would often be hard to track down; it wasn't intuitive to refill water glasses if they were empty. Not a huge deal, but we'd often have to refill our own waters while at dinner. We also found that staff ate at peak meal times and would often be served first. All things that are easy to overlook, so not a huge issue. The main thing - be sure to pack medications you might need, particularly for stomach issues related to food poisoning of some sort. This can happen anywhere, of course. But, not only had we experienced it, but a few other couples at the same time. That said, the resort was quite helpful and did check in with us (thank you again to Wendy!), and we were able to get additional medications (Gravol, Advil, etc.) at the store on site. But - just be prepared, bring something strong to help you through it just in case! We would recommend Hotel Villas Playa Samara to folks, but just be aware of those few things.
