The Fox and Hounds Historic Hotel Reviews

A quaint hotel close to the historic Port Arthur site. We were given a cosy 2 bedroom apartment with kitchen, lounge and dining area so we cooked the food we already had. Great service from the reception staff. Can't comment on the restaurant as we didn't eat there. I would definitely stay there again. No hesitation in recommending this budget hotel for accommodation.

A historical hotel, one of the best and closest around Port Arthur. It is very close to the prison attractions. There are good restaurants and bars. There is no breakfast service, but there is one not far from the highway.

The Fox and Hounds is cheap and cheerful. The bed was super comfortable, and the room was updated recently. The place looks like it needs a good scrub, however was clean enough. I would happily stay here again.

We arrived a few minutes before the reception closed (about 8ish) and they told us that they had sent us a code to a lock box outside to collect our key. As my phone was dead I didn’t receive this message. We were given our key and went to drop our stuff off in our room but the room we were given had not been cleaned/serviced from the previous night and there was some rubbish left. The overhead lights in the main bedroom were also broken. We went back to reception but they had left for the evening. We were exhausted from the drive and had to wait for them to find a room that had been cleaned and was available for the night before moving all of our stuff to the new allocated room. We were then asked to drop our old rooms key in the drop box because they were closing up for the night. Once in our cleaner room we found that the beds were on rollers and the that the headboard was not attached so if you wanted to sit up in bed you couldn’t without rolling away from the wall and the headboard falling down on you. The bathroom also had dead bugs in it. Had we arrived 5 minutes later we would have been stuck either without a room or if we managed to unlock the lock box for our key with a room that was filthy from the previous guests.

The property has been clearly renovated but there was still plasterboard residue on the floors, especially around the toilet area, you wouldn't walk around barefoot.

Great Pub. Motel rooms have stellar views, however, bathroom, TV, etc. are a bit dated.

There were a lot of spider webs in the bathroom with daddy long legs. Also in the hot water cupboard there were a lot of cobwebs and spiders. There was also a gap under our door which allowed insects to crawl under. Otherwise was very clean.

Even though it was garden view still a nice view out the large window. Quiet and clean, very pleasant place to stay. Would stay again and longer.

I like this hotel very much. I will definitely choose this hotel next time. The environment is beautiful and original. You can also make simple meals.

We were disappointed in the condition of the room. Shower broken and room very run down and unclean. Pub was great and food was good there too.

The room we stayed in was dirty, had lots of cobwebs in the bathroom/kitchenette, the toilet leaked causing the floor to become wet if left over a couple of hours and the shower drain was blocked causing water to build up in shower.

The views from the room were just incredible (it blew us away as soon as we opened the door). The bed was comfortable and very well catered for. All the staff were exceptional and went well and beyond their duties. The meals in the restaurant were excellent. We would love to have stayed longer and would definitely recommend.

No drinking water from tap, however bottle water was provided. Light not working in bathroom. Quite a few spiders inside accommodation, I guess it’s expected due to surroundings.
