It's hard to review this hotel. On one hand it has loads of charm and history, at night it looks like a fairytale scene, and on the other it's clear that it's living on past glory. It's obvious that the hotel is need of urgent remodelling considering it's current state. The spa zone is most obviously troubled, with water jets not working, showers looking like they haven't been updated in decades, worn out surfaces and just a general feeling of poor maintenance. Rooms are ok, clean with comfortable beds, but the theme continues - it all just feels a bit dated and worn out. The tv in our Fasanerie room was ancient and small, probably 15+ years old, the fridge didn't work, there is no mini bar and the elevator had a broken glass that was literally just taped over with ducktape. Food in the restaurant was very good, especially dinner! Breakfast was also fine, but it would help if there were some daily morning specials to make this more interesting. The cake break in the afternoon was also nice, albeit the area can get pretty crowded. The hotel has a free shuttle service which takes you to the nearby ski slopes, which was very nice. Their vans are clean and comfortable. Staff wise, our waiter Petar was awesome! Very pleasant, professional and curteous. High praises for Petar! Unfortunately on the last night of our stay, he was replaced with a new waiter on his first day of work and needless to say, things got bad... Our orders were lost 3 times and we were offered dessert while still waiting for the main course, the table wasn't cleared between dishes etc. The rest of the staff was friendly and helpful, both in the restaurant as well as the cleaning crew, greeting us with a smile and striking up smalltalk conversations. Speaking of clean, the rooms and the general areas of the hotel are clean and tidy. Only the spa zone felt like it could use a bit more attention, especially during peak hours. One thing I have to mention is the front desk experience. I was greeted by a receptionist who was in the middle of his lunch and was chewing while handling my checkout. Details like this tell me that the staff could use some training. Front desk appearance and attitude has to be top notch - they're the first and the last staff members guests see. Overall, we felt that the asking price for the hotel was simply too high for it's current state. The price / performance ratio wasn't there. Hopefully there is a significant investment planned to refresh the Pichlmayrgut, because the hotel with such history deserves to be brought back to it's glory.

Stayed here for 2 days for a company team building retreat. Beautiful property and rooms. Clean and spacious rooms with warm green carpets. Good seminar hall. Lush green surroundings and walking area. Very near to Dachstein mountains. Loved the stay and would return back again. The dinner meal service is a bit slow, so keep that in mind.

We visited this hotel for a symposium in May. I think I will come back in winter too. The location is great, in the middle of mountains. Most of the rooms have magnificent views. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Rooms are designed carefully. It is a great place for hikers, and I guess for skiing in winter. The breakfast was nice, the lunch was great and the dinner was excellent. Especially desserts are really nice. Also the staff were kind.

We stayed there for three nights in the end of October and we had great time. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast and dinner are very tasty and offer big selection of fresh food. The heated outdoor pool is wonderful. We enjoyed a afternoon snack too and our son liked the animals outside.

PROS - location: close to several ski resorts, with great views - food: very rich and tasteful breakfast buffet and dinners - pools: outside pool and indoor swimming pool - shuttle service to ski resorts CONS - price/performance: hotel with the worst price-performance ratio we visited, totally not worthy 600 EUR/night we payed for the deluxe room (2 adults. 2 kids) with half-board - room: we had a room in Fasanerie building, that needs an urgent reconstruction. the room was clean, but worn-out a lot. our room had a connection to the room next to us and we could hear people from other room snoring in the night! - wellness area: 2 out of 4 saunas (dampfbad) out of order, most of the jets in the whirlpool were malfunctioned and were making weird nosies. wellness is closing at 8pm, so no way you can go there after the dinner.

Finally we have found a hotel in Austrian mountains we were very happy to return to. The service and equipment are outstanding. Our family spent here Xmas 2019 and New Years 2021. The care we have gotten felt luxurious and family like. The hotel is run by Steiner family and they sure know how to run a luxurious hotel and ho to make guests happy. The food is outstanding, big variety and top presentation. One of the reasons we have decided to go back and spend a New Years here 2021. 3 swimming pools, saunas, squash court, tennis court, 2 floor modern fitness, beautiful rooms, free shuttle to slopes, kinds indoor playground..they have it all. We will be back with other families for the next skiing trip. Thank You, Steiner family, we came home rejuvenated and happy. AND THATS THE POINT !!!!!!!

We stayed at the Pichlmayr for six days with two children this January. The rooms are very spacious (too large in IMHO), very traditional-looking, and have comfortable large beds. The bathroom looked a bit "used," but overall styling fits the whole design (I prefer modern design) of the room. The hotel is divided into several buildings connected via an underground "tunnel." You can quickly go to the wellness, dining room, kids corner, ski room in your "pyjamas" if you want without catching a cold (in winter, of course). The food was delicious (we had half-board). There was a rich selection of vegetables, ham, cheese, eggs, etc., or sweet pastry for the kids for breakfast. For dinner, they served delicious foods (meat, vegetarian, soup, starters). If you are OK with traditional rooms, you can never go wrong with this hotel.
