Ragland Mansion Bed & Breakfast

This is a great B&B! Claudia was most welcoming and made us a fantastic breakfast. Room was clean, quiet, and welcoming. They had a nice selection of historical books about Virginia as well. We would definitely recommend this for a stay in downtown Petersburg

As a road-tripper who can’t resist a Civil War site, the Petersburg National Battlefield lured me to Petersburg VA. Then I was lured by the Ragland Mansion B&B. Petersburg is a really old town which is showing both age and rebirth, and no doubt the Ragland is playing a role in this new era. What a gem. I arrived near sunset; the light on the brick façade was stunning. The parking lot was a little tight and I was unsure how to get in, but the owner came out to greet me. What a welcoming environment. The grounds are lovingly tended and the entry is eye-popping. High ceilings with intricate carvings, soaring staircases. Victorian furniture, art and lighting. (Ask Claudia about Joseph Cotton and Black-Jack Pershing.) Choose from several breakfast options and let the staff know the time. Stroll into town for dinner. Blocks of ancient and empty buildings, some of which were there during the Siege of Petersburg. But new restaurants, coffee shops and live music can be seen. The sushi place was good. My room at Ragland was spacious and quiet. Love the clawfoot tub. The wooden writing desk made me want to trade my laptop for a quill pen. There’s a TV but it felt almost disrespectful to turn it on. Firm mattress, hot shower, coffeemakers everywhere. Breakfast came at the perfect time. The amazing architecture of the Ragland is matched by the charming hospitality of Claudia and her team.

One of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed at. The home is warm, inviting and tastefully decorated for the period. You can tell Claudia the proprietress loves her home and her business. Many special details! Bed was very comfortable and our room was very clean. Breakfast buffet was delicious. If we ever return to this area again, while traveling, we will stay here.

I arrived on a Friday morning for a weekend in Petersburg, to a large unassuming building where a petite woman was mowing the lawn. We smiled at each other and I preceded to the side door. Moments later the same woman greeted me with a warm smile and said she would go inside and open the door. Claudia is the owner, the chef, innkeeper, the grounds keeper, front desk manager and reservationist for this wonderful Bed and Breakfast. She simply pops up anytime she is needed and quickly disappears once she has sweetly shared a moment of her time with you, on to the next thing. The mansion is well kept, clean and takes you back in time all while feeling like staying with a great family member. Apparently I am not the only guest that feels this way as some weeks she is sold out months in advance! I will always return to the Ragland Mansion as long as there is a room to have me!

I was in Petersburg to tour the Civil War sites and decided to stay a the Ragland. I slept on the third floor in a nice large room. The breakfast was large and amazing. It was fun meeting the other guests and enjoying a glass of wine in the evening. I repeat the previous customer's statement " And kudos to Claudia who made all of this a wonderful experience. Do not think twice about staying with her." I don't know how she does it!

A warm ,welcoming experience. Absolutely beautiful historic home. Excellent breakfast, comfortable amenities, quaint neighborhood. A wonderful stay. Plan to return on my next southbound trip. Good stopping point with great location on journey between New England and Florida.

If you are ever in the area, this is a great place to stop over or, better still, use as a base for a few days. The owner is lovely and you will never want for anything. Good choice for breakfast, impeccable and beautiful house and rooms.

We are pretty experienced staying in B&B Guest Houses and weren't sure about Ragland Mansion primarily because the rate was very reasonable. But based on TA reviews and it was pet friendly, decided to make reservations. We were in Petersburg to tour the Battlefield and Blandford Cemetery and Church on our drive north. We had a large, comfortable room (Library Room) on the first floor with separate entrance. It was beautifully furnished with many Victorian era pieces. Wine and other beverages were available which was appreciated after a day of touring. Breakfast, which we ordered the night before, was set for two in a beautiful sitting room and was perfect. And kudos to Claudia who made all of this a wonderful experience. Do not think twice about staying with her.
