First room OK but view horrible. Back of hotel facing residence. Upgraded to a top floor suite with terrace and jacuzzi, extremely expensive. The room was double the size of first room with fabulous views of the sea and beach. Bottles of water replenished daily. Coffee, tea, cream etc topped up daily. Plentiful supply of shampoo, conditioner, soap and shower gel in large bottles. One and only downside was shower with glass door and wall. Therefore NO privacy. Booked half-board, food plenty of choice, very good. There are plenty of supermarkets, cafes and restaurants next to hotel.

Overall we had a really great stay. The staff were wonderful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Food was great and there was loads of options available, you’d have to be really picky to not find something you like. The rooms are out of this world - I don’t think they will ever be beaten - modern, spacious, loads of little extras (Decent quality shampoo / conditioner, comfy clean cot for our baby, and even cbeebies available on the TV). I’m giving this hotel 4 stars for a couple of things that mean we won’t return: - Pool was absolutely freezing (I do open water swimming in the UK so I’m not being soft here!). We’d paid for the swim up rooms - which looked amazing, but they were pretty much useless as we couldn’t use them. There is only one pool that is heated and its adults only. We tried to let our baby have a quick splash when it was empty as he was shivering in the other pools and the lifeguard kicked us out. It’s a bit cruel to do that when we have a baby who needs some warmth to swim and the pool was empty so we weren’t disturbing anyone. - Smoking was allowed on the decking bit of the swim up rooms. The holiday was going amazing until a family checked in next to us and the parents were chain smoking. All the smoke blew into our room, and our room and our clothes stank of smoke. It meant we couldn’t sit outside with our baby. Thankfully, to their credit, the hotel allowed us to move rooms when we asked, however I would not expect smoking to be allowed outside the rooms in a 5 star hotel with lots of babies around.

I had stayed at this hotel twice before this visit around 4 years ago and thought I knew what to expect; however this place has gone downhill a lot since then. The location of the hotel is great but that is the only good thing about it nowadays unfortunately. We arrived on the first day at around 11am to be told our room would not be ready until at least 3pm, which we understood and was fine. We put our bags in the storage room and was preparing to go to the beach whilst we waited and was then called back and told our room was in fact ready but they didn’t realise. We were then checked in and given the room key. The room was in the annexe part of the hotel which isn’t part of the main building and is very old and dated. We arrived to the room and stared to unpack when we found the toilet still had a poo in it from the previous guests despite the room being ‘cleaned’. I was happy to accept these things can happen but the room in general had a really bad smell of staleness. After deliberating for an hour we decided to ask to move rooms. The lady on reception told us she had nothing else and we would have to wait 2 nights to move rooms. After saying we weren’t at all happy she then found us another room inside the main hotel which was ready immediately. This did not have the sea view that we had paid for but the room was ready and seemed cleaner than the previous so we thought we would make the best of a bad situation. After unpacking in the 2nd room we noticed that the bin in the bathroom was still full from the previous guests. We were obviously starting to wonder how thorough this place gets cleaned. I noticed the wall where the bed is against was absolutely filthy with dust. I wrote my name on the wall in the dust with my finger on the first night and this was still there on the day we left. We didn’t say anything at the reception as didn’t want to be seen as people who moan constantly at this point. During the first night my partner was cold so she got the quilt out of the wardrobe to keep her warm. This didn’t last long as the quilt absolutely stank once she had opened it up and placed it on her. I am not one for moaning but it was absolutely disgusting so we put it in the shower room for the cleaner. It was taken away and never replaced. On the 2nd day the cleaner left her cleaning sprays in our room which we found funny at the point. On one of the middle days the cleaner came to clean the room whilst I was in the middle of using the bathroom. I explained for her to come back in 5 minutes as I was clearly busy. Despite talking some basic English to us for the time here so far she decided she could now speak no English whatsoever and manipulated the conversation to suit her that she was not wanted to clean the room today. After 2-3 minutes of me clearly explaining at the door to come back later she decided from the conversation she was not needed. This is our third visit to Son Caliu - every one has been wonderful. Facilities are excellent, staff are attentive and the food is wonderful. We make use of the spa on each visit and have experienced nearly all of the massage/reflexology treatments that are on offer - they are superb and the spa staff can not be faulted. On our last two visits we have opted for the superior Rooms with balcony and sea views (see picture) and access to the portals lounge - just perfect. There was just one thing that slightly spoiled our stay - the people in the next room smoked heavily on the balcony - it made it uncomfortable for us to use our balcony and at times were were unable to leave our door onto the balcony open because of the strong odour. That being said we will be booking a return visit

Don’t be put off by the bad reviews, our room was lovely and fresh with a nice spacious balcony (a little overlooked by your neighbours) but hey ho! The staff were very welcoming and couldn’t help enough they leant us a travel plug when ours broke, they have a secure staff only room for your luggage to sit in and they even have little rooms for you to shower in and sort yourself out if you have a late flight home. The WiFi was strong in our room I can’t say the same for every room though The air con was amazing we actually had to turn it off during the night because we woke up too cold! Breakfast was easy with a nice selection for all. My only 2 quibbles would be that a fridge is not supplied in all rooms so you will have to make a few more shop runs because food will not keep and the shower is powerful but the shower floor doesn’t have a lip to keep the water in so you may have a fairly big puddle in the bathroom by the end of it. The beach is a 7 minute walk away with one short steep ish hill (you can avoid the steps the hotel staff may tell you about) The hotel is super quiet me and my partner only really saw people at breakfast, I’m pretty sure this hotel doesn’t do entertainment so if that’s what you want this may not be the hotel for you so if you don’t mind a 7 minute walk with a short steepish hill in a quiet hotel with super friendly staff and a midday check out then book up. We spent 10 days here and we wish it was longer Me and my partner will 100% return. Thankyou!
