Arrive at the Gleniffer Hotel Paisley for evening meal. First impressions it looks nothing special from the outside however don’t be put off. Once you step inside, its a completely different story! This place I believe has not long undertaking a complete overhaul. Fresh decor, lovely dining area, clean and airy. Plenty seating around the sides as well as tables & chairs in the middle, certainly have made good use of the space available. Only downside with seating is that someone like myself who has mobility issues and on the large side, after being seated for about 20 mins the seat became uncomfortable. We were seated at a two person table, not a great deal of leg room at the table we were sat at. Someone like myself (size wise) would have been more suited on the bench seating around the sides, however these tables were laid out for around 6 diners. To the food, I ordered the fish & chips with side salad instead of mushy peas, my wife ordered steak & chips, portion of onion rings too. My fish & chips arrived with a side salad of ‘overgrown cress’ at least thats what it looked like! Would have been nice had it arrived with lettuce, tomato, cucumber etc. Even if the charged a little extra, it would have been more presentable than a pile of cress on top! My dinner came with tarter sauce which was delicious! The fish was ‘ok’ and the chips were certainly different but tasty! My wife’s steak was done to the correct order ‘medium well’ again, the steak could have been a little bigger/thicker. Its worth noting that paying a little extra is always worth it for that little more on a plate especially if the food quality is of a good standard. The sauce that accompanied the steak was also very nice. We finished off with two sweets, both of us got the caramel shortcake sundae. At a cost of £6.50each was not really worth it. Pieces of caramel cake with a drizzle of caramel and scoops of ice cream in a sweet glass. Having waited slightly longer than expected between finishing our main & sweet I wanted to order a coffee but my backside just could not sit on the seat a minuet longer. Over all this place is worth a visit, staff were attentive, and prices were average. When we were there the dining area had around 20 people in it. I will call again and try something different next time from the menu.

I went here for a meal with family, I won't be back. The restaurant menu has been changed to a basic pub menu and the quality of the food reflects this. Avoid the sausage and mash, a spoonful of mash, 2 very cheap looking and tasting, sausages and some gravy. I have eaten here many times and have previously reccomended to people but never again. On line menu is out of date.

Awful! Christmas dinner was appalling. The food disgusting and inedible. The service chaotic with zero atmosphere. Not what you expect on Christmas Day especially after being charged £70 per head. The Glennifer should hang their heads in shame,

I love the Gleniffer normally .... and we were all so looking forward to it... As a family this year we decided to do something different and go out for Christmas Dinner. We booked the half past 3 sitting, we were still waiting on our starters at 16:35. We were a table of 11 adults and 2 children. The adults starters were finally served, I gave my daughter my bread from my prawn/salmon cocktail as her starter still hadn't came after another 10 minutes of waiting to be served cremated mozzarella sticks right out the fryer, not sure if they had been cooked twice or three times. Our mains came and I don't even know how to describe the braised beef, really they should have given whoever ordered that, a saw with it to cut through. My daughter got steak pie which looked lovely and the gravy had colour, compared to the luke warm pale whatever it was over mine. I went to try my daughters and couldn't even get a bit of "steak/stew" on my fork it was so tough. So it was 45 pounds for a bit of pastry for her and 70 pounds a head for an adult. Never again! The young staff worked so hard, with no organisation from the head staff ordering them about to one table and then changing their mind and sending them to another. Complete and utter chaos and shambles. I just hope the young kids got our tip as that's the only ones that deserved it.

A Family of 8, we were looking forward to a stress free lovely Xmas Dinner. How wrong we were. After sitting for 40 minutes and under half of the table receiving their lukewarm starters, we were informed that the soup was "off" and had turned. There was no chance of a different starter, oh no, just a few tins of Tomato and Basil that had been hastily microwaved and flung out. Like it or lump it, thats what we were getting! The little plastic lurpaks had turned to liquid as they had been left on the extremely hot microwaved plates, so we had to "pour" our butter onto the bread rolls! The main course came without any trouble although the veg was brown and severly overcooked, the potatoes were hard and undercooked and it was clearly processed slices of Turkey. I'd have been embarrassed serving that to anyone, let alone someone who had paid £75 for the pleasure. Some of the desserts were then served but were hastily snached back off the table and given to another table as the "person in charge" rushed over reprimanding her woefully under directed staff, that they were serving the wrong people. Absolutely ridiculous scenes! When we finally received the desserts that were meant for us, the chocolate fudge cake had the consistency of a lump of coal, the xmas pudding was like rubber. It was only the cheesecake that seemed barely edible. Add to this the fact they managed to stick a main course from their a la carte menu onto the bill, (I'm confused as well), it was the icing on a very undercooked, cheap and bland tasting cake. A terrible experience with terrible food. The young waiting staff did their best, but were clearly not being directed appropriately and it probably wasn't their fault they were serving slop you wouldn't give to your worst enemy. £500 wasted. We will be looking for a refund but something tells me the season of goodwill is well and truly over.

My family and I went here for Christmas Day dinner yesterday 25th Dec 2023 (1pm sitting). I have been to the Gleniffer Hotel on a few occasions and had a pleasant experience with good food however I'm sorry to say that yesterday's attempt at a Christmas Dinner was awful from the service to the quality of food itself. We paid £75 per head and £55 for a child of 10 years to be served food that you just wouldn't believe. The soup we pre-ordered from the menu (after waiting for 45 minutes for) was not what we ordered as the original soup was off! We had braised beef, the beef was dry with some gravy over it and the veg was cold including the frozen 'Aunt Bessies' roast potatoes. The sweet was served, chocolate fudge cake which was hard and dry with very little chocolate sauce and the ice cream was tasteless. There was very little eaten at our table and as a result I had to go home and cook a Christmas Meal for my family. This event was totally out of their depth. I will not be booking next year! I have asked for a full refund, which I believe is totally fair..... I won't hold my breath. Wilma L, Paisley

I've eaten here quite a few times over the last year or two for family occasions, including a lovely high tea and a meal about 2 weeks ago where I had a nice Christmas Dinner. Today, however, was really awful and I said as much to the waitress who cleared my (full) plate. No one spoke to me about it. We were one of the first tables to be served, so God knows what the other tables endured after the food had been lying for a bit. Despite what comes next I'm really not a picky person. I understand mass catering is always challenging and I'll eat anything rather than make a fuss, but to pay about £70 a head for what we got was a disgrace. The prawn and salmon starter was covered in an unpleasant Marie Rose sauce and the temperature of the seafood was suspect. It tasted almost lukewarm, so had obviously been sitting out in the warm kitchen. Doesn't fill you with confidence. The turkey was processed, had no flavour and was dry. The tiniest dribble of gravy, tasteless stuffing, mushy sausage in the pigs in blankets, roast potatoes like bullets, tiny rock-hard sprouts. The chocolate fudge cake was rock hard (obviously still partially frozen), the Christmas pudding was ok but it was pre-shaped so you can't really go wrong reheating it but there was only about a teaspoon of custard with it. My whole family felt the same, but it wasn't just us. There was a guy in the toilets talking about it, one guy on the stairs said he was going for a Chinese as he hadn't eaten anything and there were people with similar stories talking in the porch. Sorry to say it was the worst Christmas Dinner I've ever had, and a few in my family said the same. Your staff are nice though.
