Summerhill Hotel

My wife and I were let down with another property and managed to get a two night stay at Summerhill last minute, and what a fantastic place it was, the location was great, the views from the balcony and rooms was beautiful.. the room we stayed in was very spacious and comfortable, the staff were very friendly and helpful.. the breakfast was to die for especially the eggs, never tasted such fresh eggs.. will definitely be staying here again and would definitely recommend it to my family and friends

The hosts were fantastic and helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were extremely clean and had very comfortable beds. Breakfast was brilliant and cooked to perfection, especially the eggs!! Plenty of free on site car parking too. We highly recommend this hotel and is great value for money. We would absolutely come again. Trevor and Dawn

Myself & my RAF colleagues stayed here for 4 nights over the English Riviera Airshow & Platinum Jubilee Weekend. Always looking to support local businesses this was by far the cleanest , friendliest hotel I/We have stayed in & although slightly dated to your typical seaside appearance all the rooms were again 5* for cleanliness & the staff were amazing & very accommodating in every aspect. The rooms were comfy, if not a little dated in decor, however the breakfast, food was great & plenty on offer. If you are looking for a nice hotel with friendly service 5 mins from the beaches & nice harbourside bars/restaurants then look no further. Due to the covid pandemic it's been three years since I have been to Paignton. The leisure centre is the venue for the KUGB's weeks karate course. I stay at the Summerhill Hotel as they make my stay so special. Arranging after training breakfasts, cleaning my room whilst I'm training so I come back to a sparkling bedroom. The Hotel is within easy walking to the Goodrington Sands beach and the sea can be seen from the hotel restaurant and gardens. They have even made it so easy to pay by direct bank transfer you have no need to worry if you need an early start going home. Definitely a home from home.

Spent a week on holiday as it was central to Torbay and access to Dartmouth (via steam train), Buckfast Abbey. Excellent service including breakfast. Evening meal an addition good quality. Full covid regulations observed

An amazing hotel with wonderful views. A little gem of a place. We stayed for 5 nights in room 21 which was clean with a generous bathroom with walk in shower. Beds were amazingly comfortable and with a patio area by the room it was wonderful to sit out and relax in the evening. Breakfast was excellent, very good choice cooked fresh and served by pleasant staff. (Loved the peaceful background music as well) the hotel offered an evening meal, ordered in advance if you wanted to stay in. The hotel is situated on a steep hill but this lends itself to wonderful scenic views around the bay. Paignton town centre is around a 15-20 minute walk away. Would definitely recommend the round robin trip from Paignton-Kingswear-Dartmouth-Totnes. Steam train from Paignton, small ferry boat over to Dartmouth from Kingswear then a river boat cruise up the river Dart to Totnes with an open top bus ride back to Paignton. Stunning views.

The room was clean and ok, location very good, breakfast good. On the negative side, unfortunately our shower head made a lot of noise when in use, the worst part was when you can hear almost everything (some noises were disgusting) from next door bathroom or below as the walls were very very thin. I think this had been reviewed before and really the owner should do something about it.

Recently stayed at the Summerhill hotel on a family holiday to Devon. We booked 2 rooms (a twin and a double) and were disappointed with the room facilities. The rooms were tired and badly in need of modernisation. The double room (room 12) was on the ground floor next to the main entrance and the dining room and sitting room. It was noisy due to its location so much so I had to buy earplugs to get a decent sleep. The rooms were clean but the furniture and decor is old and tired. The wardrobe had no back to it and the tv and tea/coffee making facilities were needing renewed. Very disappointing when we had paid £134 per room per night! Definitely not the rooms shown in any of the photos I browsed on any of the adverts for the hotel. On a plus side the breakfast was excellent with plenty of variety and good portions. The dining room is pleasant and the young ladies serving us were very nice. The hotel is well situated for Paignton harbour only a short walk away but would not suit anyone with mobility issues due to its hilly location. We enjoyed our first visit to Devon but will not be returning to the Summerhill hotel.

We stayed for a week with my elderly father. It was clean and comfortable and situated on a very steep hill, close to the beach and town. This is a Guest House serving optional evening meals, rather than a hotel. There is one small lounge with seating for 6, but nowhere else to sit or get a coffee, except for your room. The breakfast was good. Our room had no view and was extremely hot. We had to keep her sash window open all day and all night to try and cool it down and get some air. There were no fans and only heavy 10.5 tog duvets, so we took the duvet out of the cover. The rain shower was good but the ensuite had a door-sized de-misting mirror which got extremely hot within 5 mins of the light being on, so added even more heat to the room. Overall a disappointing stay.
