As luck would have it, I booked the stay on the day the wildest rain storm in a decade hits Ottawa. I reached the hotel at 8PM that evening and found a pitch dark building with absolutely no lights. The front desk still checked me in manually and assigned the rooms on the top floor for me. Having no power, I had to haul all my luggage five floors up the stairs with no emergency lighting and stuffy stale air. Here are all the bad: - The property has NO backup generator, they only have a few handheld flashlights - Battery operated emergency stairwell lights are ALL not working, they end up leaving flashlights pointed upwards on the floor - No ventilation, no gym, no pool, windows doesn't open, no hot water, no working elevators, no wifi, doubt the smoke detectors are still working (this is a death trap situation) The Good: - Joanne at the font desk handled the situation with aplomb. totally unfazed by the difficult and annoyed guests. The technician who opens the room doors for us needs a mention as well. Calm, friendly and cool - Power returned around 7AM the next morning, they were able to serve up a decent breakfast. Appreciate that. Due to the fact there are no backup generators (to rub salt to the wound, the fitness complex next doors has full lighting and air con with their diesel generator humming away nicely way into the night), I would certainly not be choosing this venue in the future.

we stayed there and went to Spa. The hotel and spa were great. Would be nice if there were closer options for dining outside the hotel, but the on site restaurants are very good.

This review is a far too late, but I did promise to wite one so here goes. We stayed as a family of 2 adults and 2 kids, and during the COVID19 summer of August 2020. Sometime Quality Inn hotels can be shady, but this one was TERRIFIC. I am being very honest, we have stayed at MANY Quality Inn hotels across the U.S and have had to turn away, but this one in Gatineau was: Very clean, absolutely friendy check in staff (Daniel Sarazin), outdoor poolfacility that was well kept and large, and amazing location (close to Costco and Ottawa). Now for the reason I am taking the time to write a review: the genuine great customer service from staff member Daniel Sarazin. He worked the front desk when we check in, and was friendly and efficient. He also proved to be tremendously helpful through our stay with answers to questions and special requests. I hope he is still there for your stay! People like this need to be highly valued to the Hotel owners, as exactly how they treat customers will prompt us to write positive reviews, and become return guests.

Stayed at the Novotel for a week in early Feb 2023 while attending a conference at the nearby Westin. I booked for a really low rate through hotwire. After a pleasant check in I was excited to come into a very large on the 8th floor with a separate seating area and a very large TV. Room was pretty clean although when packing up before check-in I found some items under the bed that did not belong to me. Location was perfect, right across from the Rideau Centre and the Westin/Conference Centre and within a short walk to the Parliament Buildings, Sparks Street and Byward Market. My only compliant is the walls must be paper thin as I could hear the ding of the elevator and conversations in the hall from my room. I was also there a four hour during a power outage in the evening. I assume the outage was unscheduled but there was a lot of confusion and no one at the front desk when it occurred. The hotel shares a building with a DND office which made it confusing leaving the building by the stairs as the stairway lead to a entrance that read ”DND property alarm will sound”, it took awhile to figure out how to exit by the stairs.

The hotel is simply bad on all counts - cleanliness, sleep quality, unexplainable bill charges. But the main thing for me was that the cleaning staff came into our room when there was a “Privacy Please” sign on our door while we were out. I have been traveling for work since 2005, weekly, and the DND sign was always something that ensures your privacy in any hotel, any country I have been to. The funniest thing is that the hotel declared they would not be cleaning the room for the duration of my stay in the pre-arrival email, which made me happy, and then they still came in to clean it, despite the sign. I called the front desk immediately when I saw it, created a big issue, and they told me that the clean-up was requested and SHEDULED by me. I explained it was impossible and how upset I was, and guess what - NOTHING happened to make things better for us, absolutely nothing. The manager did not call to apologize, there was absolutely no reaction to this, pretty big in my opinion, issue. So yes, hotel folks, if you are reading this – I did bring it to the attention of the staff. Compared to that, the rest was not as outrageous, but still quite bad and generally important to the quality of the stay: - Cleanliness: When we arrived, the toilet seat was dirty, there was pubic hair in the shower and the shower gel dispenser was empty. I did not want anyone in my room, so I sanitized all impacted surfaces, decided to use the little soaps for the showers instead of the gel and moved on. Ironically, when they broke in to clean my room, they still did not fill up the shower gel! That made me laugh when I stopped crying. - Beds: As another review here mentioned, beds are terrible. It is like sleeping on a water bed, you can feel every little movement, and between that and the old pillows, you are lucky if you get any sleep at all. - Room charges: Unlike any other hotel, this one did not send the email with the bill on the morning of the departure. Naturally, after what I have been through there, I decided to check the bill before I leave instead of just leaving like we do. I had booked using points, so my bill was supposed to only have parking charges + tax. However, when I got the print out, there was an additional $38 CAD per night charge just called “Room”, which the front desk could not explain. The further the conversation went, the more defensive the front desk representative got, until eventually they angrily removed the charges. Not even an apology or any sign of regret that there was a mistake, but a whole lot of attitude and pushback on the paying customer who happens to also be a platinum elite at this chain. Still remains to be seen what ends up being on the credit card – I am seeing some strange charges in the ‘pending’ status. The room was fine. Clean, bed was comfortable. Interesting décor lighting. When we checked in there was a boys hockey team checking in so I worried about our plan for a relaxing spa before dinner. I was right to worry. It was overrun by young teen boys with almost no supervision. We decided to try again after dinner. Our reservation was for 6:30 and we were finally served after 8:30. We saw couples who had arrived close to us get served, pay and leave before we had our main course. When I got our server's attention I asked her if there was a problem with our order and she said Oh no its just very busy, although by this time it was thinning out. Suddenly our order was there, with much apologies about the wait and how busy it was, but the meal was clearly forgotten. I ordered the ribs and fries and it was cold. My wife's seafood pasta had obviously been sitting under a warming light as the mussels on top where dried out. Just not what $28 each should get us. Anyway, it was out anniversary so I didn't cause a fuss, and was hoping for the nice spa later, but we arrived late because of the meal, it closes at 10pm, and there were empty cans and bottles about and while we did enjoy the dip, it was still a little crowded for our liking. The sauna at least was our last experience and it was good. As mentioned, the bed was fine, but then some yahoo with a huge sound system blared it in the parking lot, or adjoining property and woke both of us for a good 5 minutes. Overall, I would say, not too happy with the visit. Sorry, got to call it as I see it.

I rarely stay in hotels however I came to Ottawa to celebrate a kilometerstone (milestone for Americans ;-) birthday and decided to splurge a little. I was able to talk a friend into coming with me. I first saw this hotel on TripAdvisor, went to their own website and found I could book 4 nights for $119/nt. I spent about an hour looking around some of the big Internet travel sites and found the exact room promoted on one of them for $89! I called the hotel and asked if they price matched. After about 10min of them looking online to find the promo I was looking at, the shift supervisor approved the match! I had to agree to pay for all 4 nights whether I used them or not. I didn't care because I was coming! The location is GREAT, next to TransCanada/417 highway. That was very convenient as I had to drive to Carp the next morning and that was the highway I used. I was on that expressway 2 minutes after leaving the hotel! Check in was fast and efficient. The person checking me in was confused when I told her I was on a $89 promo, she had not heard about it but eventually found some notes on my reservation in the computer. Even though there was free parking, I wanted to leave the car at the hotel most days and take public transit downtown. I had heard even with the government shut down, parking was scarce and expensive in the city center. On check in I happened to ask how close a bus stop was to take us downtown as I wanted to do the double deck Grayline tour on Sunday and Monday. The desk clerk said I didn't need to take the city bus as the double deck bus picked up their guests every morning at 9am at the hotel! BONUS! I'm glad I asked. Our room was on the fourth floor and included two very comfortable Queen beds with 7” mattresses and fluffy comforters, a very nice bathroom, 40” LCD TV, small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. They also had WiFi that worked great! There was only one ceramic cup and one plastic cup for the first night, we would have liked two ceramic cups but it was too late to call down and ask. Both my friend and I noted how quiet the surroundings were. Almost the entire floor had booked rooms for two nights but we didn't hear much noise. Also, we were on the back side of the hotel not facing the street or highway so that may have contributed to it. If I were to return, I would ask for a first floor room on the same side of the hotel as each had direct access to the parking lot. Although the room was very clean and comfortable, there were not enough electrical plugs and the only available one to plug in my cell phone and computer was so worn out that the cables would not stay in the plug. I always bring extra cables, I had a long extension that ran from near the head of my bed to the table at the other end of the room. Without it, I would not have been able to charge my devices. Good standard hotel with very friendly and helpful reception staff. If you are driving it is a great solution to visit Ottawa.

First of all, I want you to know I have done many reviews of a variety of hotels over the years, and I am not affiliated with any brand, chain or company. Most of the time, I have a great experience and see the benefits of the stay and just try to help others by taking detailed notes and posting long, detailed reviews, so you can plan your stay or stay away, lol.  Read as much or as little as you like, my goal is just to help people out, and to reward places that give exceptional experiences. This desire comes from many years of reading reviews and scouring web sites but often not finding the information I need when travelling with my family. In regards to this Marriott, I have never been so impressed by the design, the value and the features of a hotel, EVER. I didn't believe that after 30 years of hotel stays I could be impressed this much, based on this price point. We stayed at a resort in Algonquin Park a few weeks after our visit here for $650 per night (granted, it included breakfast and dinner delivered to your room) and I would rather have returned to this Marriott. I kid you not, and my wife would agree. Go here. See for yourself. You will not be disappointed. Wow, where do I begin?   Right out of the gate, this is NOT a ”2 Star” hotel. I am not sure how the categorization works, but It is far, far superior to that, and that should be corrected. As a 47 year old father of two kids who played hockey, (plus my own traveling in a past career) I have stayed in my fair share of hotels. This hotel is by far the nicest, best equipped and best value of any of them.   No question.   If you come here, and I certainly suggest you do, you'll be shocked at the size of the rooms, the quality of service, and the amazing staff. Its unreal. The front desk staff were great, kind, friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks again Chris and Amani. You were wonderful, especially when asking how many keys we needed. Most hotels make you ask for more than two, and we always need more than that when travelling with family. The lobby was wide and spacious. Everything was spotless. There were lots of carts for our bags and 4 elevators ready to take us up to our room. There is a small concession area near the front desk offering pop, frozen microwave meals, chocolate/candy/cereal/protein bars and some handy basics like playing cards, laundry soap, Tylenol, etc. There is a price list clearly posted (see pics) and these items are available 24/7. A great idea for sure! You will also see an ATM in the lobby, which my son used to pay for our pizza later that night. There was a fee (of course) which sucks but it was handy when needed. There is also a ”business centre” near the lobby, a wonderful thing to have if you need to print off a document or if you forget your laptop...or if your daughter finally admits she has one more assignment to do for chemistry....lol  The elevator area is incredibly designed to be open and welcoming. No cramped spaces anywhere in this ho
