As luck would have it, I booked the stay on the day the wildest rain storm in a decade hits Ottawa. I reached the hotel at 8PM that evening and found a pitch dark building with absolutely no lights. The front desk still checked me in manually and assigned the rooms on the top floor for me. Having no power, I had to haul all my luggage five floors up the stairs with no emergency lighting and stuffy stale air. Here are all the bad: - The property has NO backup generator, they only have a few handheld flashlights - Battery operated emergency stairwell lights are ALL not working, they end up leaving flashlights pointed upwards on the floor - No ventilation, no gym, no pool, windows doesn't open, no hot water, no working elevators, no wifi, doubt the smoke detectors are still working (this is a death trap situation) The Good: - Joanne at the font desk handled the situation with aplomb. totally unfazed by the difficult and annoyed guests. The technician who opens the room doors for us needs a mention as well. Calm, friendly and cool - Power returned around 7AM the next morning, they were able to serve up a decent breakfast. Appreciate that. Due to the fact there are no backup generators (to rub salt to the wound, the fitness complex next doors has full lighting and air con with their diesel generator humming away nicely way into the night), I would certainly not be choosing this venue in the future.

we stayed there and went to Spa. The hotel and spa were great. Would be nice if there were closer options for dining outside the hotel, but the on site restaurants are very good.

This review is a far too late, but I did promise to wite one so here goes. We stayed as a family of 2 adults and 2 kids, and during the COVID19 summer of August 2020. Sometime Quality Inn hotels can be shady, but this one was TERRIFIC. I am being very honest, we have stayed at MANY Quality Inn hotels across the U.S and have had to turn away, but this one in Gatineau was: Very clean, absolutely friendy check in staff (Daniel Sarazin), outdoor poolfacility that was well kept and large, and amazing location (close to Costco and Ottawa). Now for the reason I am taking the time to write a review: the genuine great customer service from staff member Daniel Sarazin. He worked the front desk when we check in, and was friendly and efficient. He also proved to be tremendously helpful through our stay with answers to questions and special requests. I hope he is still there for your stay! People like this need to be highly valued to the Hotel owners, as exactly how they treat customers will prompt us to write positive reviews, and become return guests.

reservation for 3 nights, had to change room 3 times; AC did not work in 1st room, was offered a fan (which would just move the hot air around) not really a solution when its 31 degrees outside; had to insist to get room with working AC; was assigned another room for the rest of my stay; to my surprise the next morning was told I had to move again because the room had been rented last night for the next 2 days to someone else; had to get my things out before heading out for the day. Noticed a big chain wrapped around the handles of the front door, only access is through the back door. Thought I would give this place a chance, since I travel through Ottawa/Gatineau every few months; low price is not sufficient to entice me to go back. Good: room and bedding clean / mattress confortable / good water pressure and hot water Bad: Reception staff is confused and disorganized, the woman manning the desk on the 2nd day was curt, very unpleasant to deal with / very minimum breakfast option (i.e. only one type of tea offered, if you don't like Earl Grey, you are out of luck)

I rarely stay in hotels however I came to Ottawa to celebrate a kilometerstone (milestone for Americans ;-) birthday and decided to splurge a little. I was able to talk a friend into coming with me. I first saw this hotel on TripAdvisor, went to their own website and found I could book 4 nights for $119/nt. I spent about an hour looking around some of the big Internet travel sites and found the exact room promoted on one of them for $89! I called the hotel and asked if they price matched. After about 10min of them looking online to find the promo I was looking at, the shift supervisor approved the match! I had to agree to pay for all 4 nights whether I used them or not. I didn't care because I was coming! The location is GREAT, next to TransCanada/417 highway. That was very convenient as I had to drive to Carp the next morning and that was the highway I used. I was on that expressway 2 minutes after leaving the hotel! Check in was fast and efficient. The person checking me in was confused when I told her I was on a $89 promo, she had not heard about it but eventually found some notes on my reservation in the computer. Even though there was free parking, I wanted to leave the car at the hotel most days and take public transit downtown. I had heard even with the government shut down, parking was scarce and expensive in the city center. On check in I happened to ask how close a bus stop was to take us downtown as I wanted to do the double deck Grayline tour on Sunday and Monday. The desk clerk said I didn't need to take the city bus as the double deck bus picked up their guests every morning at 9am at the hotel! BONUS! I'm glad I asked. Our room was on the fourth floor and included two very comfortable Queen beds with 7” mattresses and fluffy comforters, a very nice bathroom, 40” LCD TV, small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. They also had WiFi that worked great! There was only one ceramic cup and one plastic cup for the first night, we would have liked two ceramic cups but it was too late to call down and ask. Both my friend and I noted how quiet the surroundings were. Almost the entire floor had booked rooms for two nights but we didn't hear much noise. Also, we were on the back side of the hotel not facing the street or highway so that may have contributed to it. If I were to return, I would ask for a first floor room on the same side of the hotel as each had direct access to the parking lot. Although the room was very clean and comfortable, there were not enough electrical plugs and the only available one to plug in my cell phone and computer was so worn out that the cables would not stay in the plug. I always bring extra cables, I had a long extension that ran from near the head of my bed to the table at the other end of the room. Without it, I would not have been able to charge my devices. First of all, I want you to know I have done many reviews of a variety of hotels over the years, and I am not affiliated with any brand, chain or company. Most of the time, I have a great experience and see the benefits of the stay and just try to help others by taking detailed notes and posting long, detailed reviews, so you can plan your stay or stay away, lol.  Read as much or as little as you like, my goal is just to help people out, and to reward places that give exceptional experiences. This desire comes from many years of reading reviews and scouring web sites but often not finding the information I need when travelling with my family. In regards to this Marriott, I have never been so impressed by the design, the value and the features of a hotel, EVER. I didn't believe that after 30 years of hotel stays I could be impressed this much, based on this price point. We stayed at a resort in Algonquin Park a few weeks after our visit here for $650 per night (granted, it included breakfast and dinner delivered to your room) and I would rather have returned to this Marriott. I kid you not, and my wife would agree. Go here. See for yourself. You will not be disappointed. Wow, where do I begin?   Right out of the gate, this is NOT a ”2 Star” hotel. I am not sure how the categorization works, but It is far, far superior to that, and that should be corrected. As a 47 year old father of two kids who played hockey, (plus my own traveling in a past career) I have stayed in my fair share of hotels. This hotel is by far the nicest, best equipped and best value of any of them.   No question.   If you come here, and I certainly suggest you do, you'll be shocked at the size of the rooms, the quality of service, and the amazing staff. Its unreal. The front desk staff were great, kind, friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks again Chris and Amani. You were wonderful, especially when asking how many keys we needed. Most hotels make you ask for more than two, and we always need more than that when travelling with family. The lobby was wide and spacious. Everything was spotless. There were lots of carts for our bags and 4 elevators ready to take us up to our room. There is a small concession area near the front desk offering pop, frozen microwave meals, chocolate/candy/cereal/protein bars and some handy basics like playing cards, laundry soap, Tylenol, etc. There is a price list clearly posted (see pics) and these items are available 24/7. A great idea for sure! You will also see an ATM in the lobby, which my son used to pay for our pizza later that night. There was a fee (of course) which sucks but it was handy when needed. There is also a ”business centre” near the lobby, a wonderful thing to have if you need to print off a document or if you forget your laptop...or if your daughter finally admits she has one more assignment to do for chemistry....lol  The elevator area is incredibly designed to be open and welcoming. Our family of 4 needed a hotel near the airport between connecting flights so our expectation was not high. We always had good experience with other Hampton Inns so this was just an easy choice, assuming a known quality hotel and also close to the airport. The Good about this hotel - 1. close to airport 2. free shuttle (details to follow) 3. has a couple restaurants just across from the parking lot if you don't want to venture out too far 4. check-in was quick The Bad - 1. Free shuttle only starts at 6am so if you need to catch an early flight you'll need to find a taxi. In our case, we had to pre-book a taxi the night before because we needed to get to the airport at 4:30am. 2. The hotel shuttle was just a plain white van with no signs indicating it's for Hampton Inn. Driver was not in any kind of uniform and when I knocked on his window trying to inquire, he came out and yelled 'What's going on'. Well not exactly what I expect a hotel shuttle driver to identify himself that way. When I asked if he's from Hampton Inn the answer was yes. But in retrospect any random guy can give me the same answer and we just kinda need to trust that driver that he's a legitimate Hampton Inn shuttle driver. The whole short trip to the hotel we were wondering if we would end up getting mugged. Just not a good feeling and I think the hotel can handle this a lot better, how hard is it to give this driver an uniform with a hampton inn logo, or print a hampton inn logo on a piece of paper and put it on the dashboard. At least something to make your shuttle and driver look a little bit more legitimate and make your guests feel a little bit safer. 3. As mentioned earlier we pre-booked a taxi to pick us up at 4:15am, turns out the front desk forgot to book it for us. When we got down to the lobby and looked for the taxi, that's when the front desk guy realized he forgot about it. So we waited for another 10-12 mins for the taxi to come. (taxi fare from hotel to airport was less than $20) 4. Not all electric outlets are working, in our room the one attached to the side table lamp didn't seem to work. Had to search high and low to have enough outlets to charge 4 phones and 4 apple watches. The Very Bad - The mattress was the absolute worse, I have never stayed at a Hampton Inn that have mattresses that dip down about 2 inches and with no support whatsoever. I'm not a big person, but my husband is so the whole night I was sinking and rolling to my husband's side. All I needed was a few hours of sleep between flights and I could not get that because of the mattress. Tossing and turning the whole night and could not find a good position. My back was hurting the next day like I was sleeping on an absolute garbage mattress the night before. We did not use the free breakfast, coffee wasn't ready during our stay, no other amenities were used. Stayed at the Novotel for a week in early Feb 2023 while attending a conference at the nearby Westin. I booked for a really low rate through hotwire. After a pleasant check in I was excited to come into a very large on the 8th floor with a separate seating area and a very large TV. Room was pretty clean although when packing up before check-in I found some items under the bed that did not belong to me. Location was perfect, right across from the Rideau Centre and the Westin/Conference Centre and within a short walk to the Parliament Buildings, Sparks Street and Byward Market. My only compliant is the walls must be paper thin as I could hear the ding of the elevator and conversations in the hall from my room. I was also there a four hour during a power outage in the evening. I assume the outage was unscheduled but there was a lot of confusion and no one at the front desk when it occurred. The hotel shares a building with a DND office which made it confusing leaving the building by the stairs as the stairway lead to a entrance that read ”DND property alarm will sound”, it took awhile to figure out how to exit by the stairs.

We came here for our first wedding anniversary. Parking was easy to find. Our check-in was fast and the young lady who helped us was very friendly. Our room was not very big but it was nice. The air conditioning worked well which was great on a very hot day, and the TV was able to connect to our Netflix account. We had told the hotel that it was our anniversary and they stopped by with a bag with some treats and happy anniversary balloons, which was very nice! There is even a card that a number of the hotel staff signed. The location was great, we were right by the subway so you could hop on to go to the byword market very easily, or it was about a 10-minute walk. We visited for Blues fest and it was also very easy to get there from this hotel. I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel!

I booked 3 rooms as I took my associates to Spa Nordik. We checked in late at night and it was seamless, staff was friendly, lobby looks wonderful. The rest of the hotel though, at least the seventh floor needs updating and repairs. More effort needed to be put on cleaning, very disappointed of the cleanliness of two of my three rooms. Every other BW I stayed at had breakfast included, here there is a $15 charge for a continental breakfast. You can spend about $15 elsewhere and get a full breakfast with bottomless coffee. All I wanted in the morning was a fresh coffee, I did not want to spend an additional $90 for myself and associates just for coffee. I was willing to pay for the coffee but was told “it was not an option.” Really folks? I think the owner, manager, and BW chain should be embarrassed about this. $220 for each room, and I was not able to buy a coffee, in fact a multi million dollar business like BW should’ve just given me one. embarrassing
