Chimneys Nuwara Eliya

I gave 5 stars because of the great atmosphere & architecture of the property & because of the kind staff that’s working here, the chef & the f&b staff were super supportive & kind. We got permission from the hotel to bring few of our friends to the hotel, & since there’s a sound policy we were told to stop it, & we agreed & decided to go to our friend’s hotel, & we specifically mentioned that we’ll get late & arrange some way to open the gate, we came back to the hotel around 4am in the morning & I called Dev & he answered in 3 rings & rudely asked us to wait till he finds someone to open the gate, we stayed for about 45 mins to 60 mins outside till they opened the gate. Dev had some ego with us since the time we arrived maybe because we are locals & we enjoy a lot, we saw him having drinks with a foreigner in the bar, & he came to us being fully drunk & asked to stop the sounds & leave, we very politely agreed to the hotel policies & left, So the gate issue that i mentioned above is a revenge. He’s very unprofessional & very inhuman, he must be good with foreigners but can never cater locals, hats off to the chef dinesh & the rest of the staff that helped us.

The grounds of the property are very beautiful and peaceful. The rooms are exceptional. Every detail in the rooms are perfect, lots of seating areas and the window seat. The room is large and bed was very comfortable with really nice sheets. The bathroom is nice and large and good shower. The heater worked well and was quiet. The cleanliness is perfect, there is not a mark anywhere. The quality of the furnishings are really good and everything is very well looked after. There were no bugs at all unlike elsewhere in Sri Lanka. The view from the room to the garden is very peaceful. The wifi worked well. It was very quiet as we were the only people staying in the hotel for the two nights! There are lots of common area sitting areas. The western breakfast was fine, served in nice sunroom. The staff were very friendly and helped in every way. The manager that everyone spoke about in reviews was on holiday. I cannot fault the property and the rooms in any way as it was perfect. Place is 7 minute walk to main road or quick tuk tuk ride. I would highly recommend staying here and we would stay again if back as the quality is exceptional and far surpasses what you would generally find in Sri Lanka. It's not the hotel's fault but we were the only people staying in the whole place for two days so it didn't have the atmosphere and restaurant was closed, bar is not operational. Perhaps they should have advised beforehand that it would be closed. Property is very secure but you need to ask staff to let you out as the front is locked, which felt a bit weird to not be able to get out without asking. Once the hotel has more guests and word gets out it will be exceptional, as many of the mainstream hotels the tourists go to with the tours are poor quality and old whereas this is a very beautiful and well maintained property with very nice and kind staff.

We spent a very rainy Christmas Day 2022 at Chimneys, so rainy and cold that venturing out into Nuwara Eliya town did not seem inviting. Luckily Chimneys offers lots of space to hang around, some interesting old books in one of the living rooms, amazing food and some warmth that was definitely needed on that day. Gavin and his team at Chimneys made our Christmas Day special despite the unfortunate weather. The rooms are very spacious, clean and nicely furnished. The quality of service was good and I will definitely come again, hopefully with a little more sunshine next time so that I can also enjoy the big garden surrounding the hotel.

Mr. Baldsing and his staff take hospitality to the next level. If you're looking for a cozy yet elegant boutique hotel stay in quiet, idyllic and most importantly safe surroundings, "Chimneys" is the ideal place. I stayed on the upper floor in the far corner bedroom with a beautiful view of the perfectly manicured garden. At the time I was there an abundance of hydrangeas adorned the property. The interior of both properties are tastefully furnished and decorated, Mr. Baldsing and his staff value paying attention to details and you won't find a single dust particle or stain anywhere. Mr. Baldsing has been in the hospitality business long enough to understand the guest's concern without them even uttering a word. When I struggled to find a driver on the local Pickme app, he arranged a trustworthy driver at a very fair price for me and went the extra mile to remember I might potentially need to secure a driver that takes me to the railway station on departure day - I hadn't even thought of that yet and was very grateful he killed two birds with one stone for me. I didn't have to approach him about anything, he was always two steps ahead without it being intrusive or overbearing, which I really appreciated. The room was spotlessly clean and tastefully designed. The fresh flowers in the bathroom just proved once again how passionate the Chimneys staff is about providing excellent service. The wi-fi signal in my room was strong and reliable throughout the entire stay. I had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel. The food quality is excellent, the dishes were served hot and were perfectly seasoned. You may enjoy Sri Lankan cuisine all you want throughout your trip, but you should definitely indulge in the Western cuisine offered here. I especially loved the homemade mini rolls! Breakfast was just as excellent, featuring homemade jams, any-style eggs, bacon, etc. One day I returned around noon and Mr. Baldsing greeted me with a cup of tea (by that time he had already remembered how I preferred it) and butter cake, which I enjoyed in one of the many salons. Once again I appreciated the attention to detail. In a nutshell: A beautiful hotel in a safe and secure area with strong wi-fi (+ mobile reception) and top tier service. You may trust the pictures, the hotel looks exactly the same!

After our sixth homestay we wanted to get some good old luxury stay. A place where we could relax and recharge our batteries. And what we found at Chimneys was exactly that and much more. The general manager Gavin gave us a very warm welcome. We had a nice long chat and some tea in the library. The rooms were awesome, absolutely clean, pretty big and lots of nice wooden furniture. The bathroom was clean as hell. The staff really was exceptional, they were all highly motivated to make our stay as pleasurable as possible (in a real and honest way, not pushy or something like that). Gavin the manager is a very nice and funny guy and a real gentleman. He fulfills every wish you have. The food is western and very good. Its nice for a change. So all in all we can absolutely recommend this accommodation. It was awesome!!!

Brand new hotel outside of the Nuwara Eliya center, easily reachable by a walk or a tuk tuk. The accomodation was beautiful, colonial style, spacious rooms with beautiful bug windows, comfy bed and truly clean bathroom. The personnel was great, the manager was very nice, provided good tip for a restaurant in the town. Everything we needed they solved immediately (even a battery charger at the late evening was delivered to our room right away). I have to especially name Layal, who was communicating with us all the time in order to help with our transfer to and from the hotel, about our stay in the hotel also about our struggles with getting tickets for the famous train ride (he called to the ticket office for us). He was just incredibly helpful, provided very useful tips for our trip around island and was very patient with our questions :) I never expected such a great communication with a hotel before. Thanks to Layal we had a great time! Regarding the breakfast, I see a space for improvement here, but it was more than Ok :) I wish we would have stayed for more than one night :(

Amazing new colonial style hotel. Very big rooms with garden views, cozy beds and great authentic furniture. We booked 4 night here, but then realized that we want to stay longer and extend our booking for one more week. Staff was super nice, friendly and helpful with every request we had. This is a very quiet and green place, so our stay was very relaxing. We had great breakfasts at the time we wanted and the way we wanted it, so absolutely no stress! We can't thank more to the manager for the kind of experience we had in this hotel. This is truly the best hotel we've been to in Sri Lanka.

Beautiful brand new hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Spacious rooms and comfy beds with beautiful garden view. Gorgeous breakfast. Looks better in real compare photos. Hotel can arrange tuk tuk and help to get around We have nothing to complain about the stay was the best we had on our trip at Sri Lanka

We really enjoy during our visit feb 4th to 6th 2022 , nice comfortable room & bathroom, Very friendly management & staff. Delicious food.I am highly recommend this place to enjoy the holiday. Location also near to most of the tourist spots in Nuwara Eliya. Size of the room and cleanest highly top of the level. Surrounding also harm and peaceful environmental And mountain views.
