First time at a Crystalbrook hotel. It was a pleasant experience. Rooms are really spacious with nice modern decor/retro design touches. Bed was ok, pretty firm. Room entry is a bit of a wasted space around closet area, probably could have been better utilised. Bathroom was well equipped, probably could have been bigger based on wasted entry area. The hotel has a rather sombre vibe so a bit vanilla in that respect. Restaurant not open Sunday eves so couldn't try. Bar on top level has pretty good views but a bit disjointed between nice bar and seating area in a seperate room. Didn't get a buzzy feeling there. Location was ok, bit out of central CBD but close enough to Darby St eateries so had my Sunday dinner there. Opposite Civic Park and close to waterfront. Loved the ”no plastic bottle” and refillable water stations for an eco friendly experience.

Lovely hotel in central location. Staff very nice & helpful. Recommend paying the extra & get valet parking as other option can be confusing to begin with. Roof top bar was lovely but music very loud. Love the Kevin Murphy bathroom products. Yes, we would stay again when in Newcastle.

The good : The rooms are large , spacious, and good size kitchen, and lounge and eating eras with seperate bedroom and washing facilities, so great for a longer stay as I did for 7 days. The pool and spa are a nice touch all indoors and very relaxing after a hot humid day. The rooms are very neat and tidy, starting to show their age a bit, but still very functional. The beds are a bit firm and could have the room for king size, i think the mattress could be due for a replacement. The bathrooms are aged some what with the old step into the bath to have a shower routine, thus time for a refurbishment to be carried out on those. The OK: Only one air con for the large rooms, so your bedroom can get quite hot, and my ceiling fan didn’t work, so not as comfortable as it could have been. Some of the carpets in hallways are a bit thread bear and needs replacing, and the pool area needs a repaint, but all minor issues . The bad: Seems to be a theme with quests of late, the car park, besides the fact getting into the place to do a check in is near impossible as there is no parking on the street , so park a few blocks away, walk to the entrance and get the remote to open the 30 dollar a day car parking gate, the parking is 30 dollars a day for your car to sit in the sun or rain and not get stolen on the street, so lets call the room rate +30 dollars, as there is NO WAY you would park your car on the street around the area, as its a bit seedy at night. Honestly just include it in the room rate and if you don’t park here you get a 30 dollar discount… ?? There was a time car parks for a hotel were free… I must be old school, I guess ;)

The apt is managed by an agency which did not make an effort to contact you using other medium beside SMS. So, in convenience. At Aussie standard, the apt complex can be better clean - too many dry leaves on the ground - otherwise good place with good location.

Great staff, great service. Easy to go around Newcastle and also close to the Honeysuckle Tram stop that takes you to the Newcastle CBD and the beach. Breakfast was good, make sure you include jn the package for your stay otherwise it will cost you $32/person per breakfast. The only negative things here are : The swimming pool is too small. The exhaust fan in our room won't turn off, its always on. The aircon kept turning off every 2 hours or so by itself so when we slept here for 3 nights, every night i was sweating as the aircon was turned off by itself eventhough i did not put any timer on. The restaurant is not serving proper meal as no head chef available, so we had to go to Marketown for dinners. The parking why should we pay? I think it should be included on the price. I understand that limited spot, but they have spots up the ramp too, they not using it. Also , when its full, they seem to squish in more cars, in one night we stayed there, we had to park in front of the shed which not suppose too, but thats because the staff maybe promised the people that coming late that parking is available. No it was not, there was no spot left although we already checked in the night before, we still can't get the spot.

Every little detail has been thought of, from the light at foot level so that it doesnt disturb orhers that comes on when you go to the toilet at night. Where the bed is positioned all well thought of as again bathroom light would not disturb sleep. Storage for suitcase bottom of open wardrobe. Fully kitted out kitchen unseen in other apartments as to what is provided. Would definitely recommend and would stay there again. Girls at reception also very hospitable.

This was booked for us by friends who live in Newcastle. We were very happy with the room and the amenities. The free breakfast provided plenty of choice but the fruit provided was unripe pears and this was summer when local fruit is in abundance. We have stayed at the Grand many times and have always loved it for its history, architectural style, and cleanliness. We were greatly disappointed by our last stay, to find the attention to detail was lacking and the room (Grand room 7) was in a state of disrepair. The bathroom had broken towel rails and moldy tiles, missing stonework from the fireplace, random scruffy miss-matched furniture, a grubby ironing board in the poorly built wardrobe, the pillows were thin and lumpy. The accommodation is not at the high standard it once was and it's sad to see the once smart and stylish decor has deteriorated. Also, be aware, the website advertises on-street parking, however, this part of town is very busy and it's tricky to find a park in the street or the parking station across the road, which charges $40 for 1 overnight stay. This hotel is in an excellent location and is close to the beach, cafes, and CBD. There are lovely views of the Cathedral from the corner balcony and you can hear the sea at night. I hope the hotel management will take the time to repair the damage in the rooms and give the place a good scrub and replace some of the out-of-place furniture. We love this place but would hesitate to stay again based on our last experience. Currently, it does not meet the standard expected for 4-star accommodation, and at $179 per night, it was very disappointing.

We had a late lunch with friends and shared a Newy pizza. It was absolutely delicious! When we placed our order it must have become lost and because our meal was arriving a little later than normal we were given free drinks all around. Both the chef and the waiter were apologetic, helpful and charming. We both would definitely recommend eating here for the delicious food, fantastic service and homely surroundings!
