We stayed with two families, four people. We found out about Naegi Castle on our way from Nakatsugawa and decided to stop by. It's a 20-minute drive from Naegi Castle (about a 30-minute drive from downtown Nakatsugawa). On the day we arrived, they offered a free welcome drink until 5:00 PM, so we toasted with draft beer right away. This was fantastic. In addition to the large public baths for men and women (with open-air baths), there were four family baths (one of which was an open-air family bath), allowing us to fully enjoy the hot springs. Dinner was served in a private room separate from our rooms, allowing us to relax and enjoy a luxurious meal. For dinner, we enjoyed grilled sweetfish, Hida beef steak, and a sumptuous unaju (grilled eel on rice), even though it was just before the Day of the Ox. Our room attendant, a native of Nepal, spoke fluent Japanese (there were also Asian staff at the front desk who spoke excellent Japanese). They even took photos of both families, making for a wonderful keepsake. Breakfast was also plentiful and filling. We'd definitely like to stay here again.
