Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place

Morgantown|1.74km from Summit Hall
I'm always surprised to find that, decades after passage of the ADA, new buildings still make it hard for you to get in the door. The hotel had double sets of doors that weren't automatic and had no automatic door openers; it took 2 people to get a bell cart into or out of the lobby - 1 to open the doors, 1 to push the cart. We weren't the only ones having that issue but if any Marriott staff noticed, they didn't offer to help. The hotel had a big banner near the check-in desk claiming that Morgantown welcomes everyone; it's not very welcoming if it's a struggle just to get the door open. (We may have been spoiled by the staff at the Raphael in Kansas City, another Marriott property; they had bellmen by the door 24/7 to open doors and help you with luggage.) The main entrance is poorly lit and poorly marked; after a long day's driving, we had trouble finding the correct entrance in the dark. Parking cost $12/night, which is notated in tiny print on the home page. The indoor pool looked nice; unfortunately, we checked in too late and left too early the next morning to get to use it. That was disappointing, as the indoor pool was a key reason we booked this hotel for our overnight. Our room left a bit to be desired. It was big and had a nice view of the river, but the only lighting bright enough to read by was over the door and in the shower. However, there was *lots* of ambient light once we turned off the lights - even the electrical outlets had little glowing lights on them. You can drape a washcloth or something over the phone and microwave displays, but not on a wall outlet. There wasn't much storage space, and most of it was smallish open cubicles, not drawers. The bathroom was big and had decent counterspace, but the mirror wasn't sufficiently wel lit for doing your makeup. There was a hook in the shower but no hook or towel bar outside the shower to put a robe or towel. The bathroom door was barndoor style, installed crooked (see photos). The main room door stuck; we had to push or pull it to make sure it closed all the way. Dinner at the restaurant was overpriced but good. I ordered the caprese flatbread, thinking I was getting a caprese salad (I was too tired to read the menu carefully); it was quite good, as was the french onion soup. My husband's filet came out medium-rare rather than the medium-well he'd ordered. We opted for the breakfast buffet the next morning. I always appreciate having real (rather than instant) oatmeal available and most of the fruit was neither under- nor overripe, although the coffee was too strong to be drinkable.

Hampton Inn Morgantown

I admittedly glanced through my Hilton app and reserved this room for my daughter's travel ball tournament to be held at WVU this weekend without checking reviews. I did so, because I use the app frequently and have never had a bad experience at Hampton/Hilton without it being quickly resolved in a professional manner. This was the closest Hampton to the Rec Center @ WVU so I booked it. From the time I walked in, I noticed the cleanliness of the hotel was lacking. There was sticky stuff on the floor along with when I got out of the elevator and I kept going to our room because we had been driving several hours and I figured that our room would have the Hilton Cleanstay. Boy, was I wrong! The room smelled bad as soon as I opened the door. The beds were made. I sat our things down and began to unpack. I immediately noticed the bathroom floor was dirty and the bathtub was also dirty. There is a broken nut in the toilet. Later I learned that my bedspread had several stains on it and I found myself unable to sleep. I am not one to cause a fuss and try very hard to make do with what I have. I unsucessfully tried sleeping through the night and finally went down to the front desk at 5 am to ask if I could please have a new room. The lady at the front desk was immediately dismissive, confrontational, and said I should have said something last night. While, yes, I of course should have looking back, I don't think it was my fault the room was not cleaned. I will skip the other details here, which ended up in her telling me she would tell her manager when she came in and they would have the room cleaned for me by 9. I came back to my room at 3 pm after our matches and my bedspread was changed but the floor and tub were still nasty. I went back downstairs. A new receptionist was there. I asked for a new room, she said they're all dirty and said she would send housekeeping up when they could. We waited in our room and a gentleman came up, granted the nicest person I have encountered while here, and he said the dirty bathroom was from wood glue and he cleaned and disinfected the best he could. I am stuck here until tomorrow because this reservation cost me over $300. I wish I had seen the other recent reviews. Please do not waste your money coming here. Not to mention some sort of sediment is in the sinks, toilet, and tub, so I definitely would not eat or drink the water/coffee here. If I am able to leave my photos on the review later, I will attach them. In the meantime, please listen to the other reviews + my own because you will undoubtedly regret it due to the lacking customer service + basic empathy for another human + lack of housekeeping in this building. I never leave reviews, but this establishment blew my mind.

This was a great hotel. Close to everything, easy check in and out, clean, and most of all - the staff was incredible. Very kind throughout the stay.

When researching my motel of choice, I saw several reviews that this place was dirty. My bathtub was a bit dirty and room looked a bit old, but was not terrible. However, you expect your room to be clean upon checkin. Customer service is sorely lacking though The main entrance was closed and had a sign directing to me to another door. That door was locked. Not very welcoming to guests. My biggest issue was the next morning. My toilet had broken and would not flush, so I went to the front desk. The crotchety old woman would not even look up until I said good morning. Even then, it was like I was bothering her for interrupting her work. When I told her about the toilet, she said she would let maintenance know. Then a couple seconds later, she told me that if I ”need to use the commode”, I'd need to use their plunger. I told her that I am paying a for a fully night's rate, I should not have to perform my own maintenance. She snapped back that ”There's nothing I can do” because the maintenance person was not there. This was during working hours about 8:30 AM, not like it was 3AM. I then told her to give me a key to unoccupied room since the restroom in the hallway was also Out of Order (great maintenance smh). Clearly upset, she handed me a key and didn't say anything other than ”I need it back” ASAP. When I entered the room, I saw that it was clearly used. I was hoping that someone had just checked out and that no one would re-enter. No one did, but the room obviously had not been cleaned/sanitized so that added to the issue. When I finally checked out, she did not even look up or speak to me. I don't want to imply that all employees are like her ( the young man that checked me in the night before was friendly), but I'd be willing to bet that she has been rude to others since she was to me before I had even said a word to her. As for the 2 key system, on one hand I like the added security (makes me wonder if there have been issues in the past?), but it became a hassle when the outside door key would struggle to work. I had to play & turn it several times. Room itself was mediocre, but definitely not a place I'd like to stay again.

Everyone was very nice. The hotel was clean. Check in was easy. The location was right off the highway and near many chain stores (Target, TJ Maxx, Old Navy, Bed, Bath, and Beyond), restaurants, and a grocery store. There was a free grab-and-go breakfast (muffins, oatmeal, yogurt, juice, coffee). I only had one problem. I am allergic to feather pillows. There were 6 pillows in our room, all were feather pillows. I called down to the front desk and asked for a different pillow. They said they would have to check to see if they had other pillows. Minutes later a very nice person from housekeeping was at my door giving me another pillow....which was also a feather pillow. We ended up having to buy new pillows for our stay.

Look - this place is not fancy. But if you're looking for a reliable, comfortable, safe and friendly place off the interstate then this is the place. This is a halfway place for us in our travels and we are never disappointed. It's clean, affordable and easy. We look forward to staying here.

Our home had major plumbing issues and we had to evacuate for over 1 week! I thought it would be easy to find several affordable quality/clean hotels in the Morgantown area. Um.... nope.....Most were ridiculously expensive or an outright dump. Then I saw the Suburban Extended Stay. It had pretty good reviews but was just outside of Morgantown in Sabraton. (older town, a little run down, not as nice as Morgantown). We decided to give it a try. It was one of the cheapest options but holy cow! Excellent place. Very Clean. Staff is more than helpful. Cleaning folks were the nicest we have ever met (please tip them they deserve it). I think all the rooms even have kitchenettes (all 3 of our rooms did). At one point during our stay, some inconsiderate guests were staying above us on the 4th floor and really loud. I decided to say something to the front desk the next day and due to other complaints those fools were asked to leave the property! Now that's what I am talking about. I also like how they txt you everyday to make sure all is well. Its not a canned text either. I responded back with a suggestion and they got right back to me. Seriously this place is worth every penny. almost all the guests were very nice too. They are Pet friendly with a dog walking/pooping area. The hotel itself sits back off of the main road so its a little tricky to find but look for the Shoneys then drive right behind it. If I had to pick one negative, I guess it would be the in and out Oilfield worker/ guests. They are hard working and quiet for the most part but stink up the elevators with paraffin and other oil and gas type smells. Sorry but I am a 20 year Oil & Gas retiree myself so I can say whatever the hell I want about them. Thank you for your service though!
