Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan has a lot going for it, but a few things detracted from the overall experience - many of which are not the fault of the ryokan itself, but it's worth noting. We've stayed at tons of top onsen ryokans throughout Japan, but what intrigued us most about visiting Keiunkan had to do with its history - it's officially recognized as the oldest continually operating inn/hotel in the world. It was established in 705 A.D., and has been run by the same family which is in its 53rd generation. That alone had us excited. The fact that the Suite that we booked - the ”special room Kitadake,” with its top floor corner location and free-flowing open-air outdoor Onsen (natural hot springs) bath, had us giddy with excitement. The two primary downsides are its location (and surrounds) and lack of any historical vibe. First, it’s in the middle of nowhere. Usually, that would be fine, but there is nothing to see and do within 30 minutes (driving) of the ryokan. Minobusan (and Minobusan Kuon-ji Temple) are about a half-hour away, but not really a must-do. Aside from that… nothing. Also, along the way there, all we saw were trucks after big trucks (hardly any cars) carrying gravel/rocks. And all along the Hayakawa River, there were mounds of sand and massive boulders that either were excavated by the trucks or were dumped there. And then there were tons and tons of quarries. And lots of road construction, with construction staff managing traffic every 5 minutes or so (the roads were one lane each way, naturally.) It was dusty, and the river was not picturesque at all. We later learned from our room attendant that Japan is building a Magnetic Levitation Train with much of it planned to run underground, so there was a ton of work in the area in building the tunnel that would pass through Shizuoka and Yamanashi. This will continue until at least 2027, so this is something to be mindful about. Secondly, if you didn't know that Keiunkan was originally established in 705AD, you would not have any sense of Keiunkan being an old, historic property. This has to do with a massive typhooon which completely devastated the property (and the entire area) about 60 years ago, and all of the then-exhibited items from antiquity (scrolls, ceramics, paintings, etc.) were also lost. That said, this is not unusual in Japan, where typhoons, fires and earthquakes are the norm, and Keiunkan was probably rebuilt at least 8 times over the course of its history. Still, it's a shame that no trace of its historic past is evident to guests when staying at the ryokan. FYI, the current building was built a few miles away from the original location in 1997, and let's just say it is not exactly an architectural beauty. It's also a rather large property by ryokan standards, with 37 total rooms. This can be a plus, what with Keiunkan having quite a few public Onsen options on site - something that only a handful of much smaller luxury ryokans can offer on the same scale. As a ry

A hotel featuring all-natural hot springs, fed with fresh waters flowing straight from the source!

When I arrived, I saw the parking lot like a material storage area with an abandoned car and thought, ”I wonder if this failed” and checked in. I thought that the door of the room and the old appearance inside were ”mad”. In fact, there was no soundproofing measures for the voice and noise of the next room. However, I stayed because I was attracted to the hot springs I saw on HP, but this is a great answer. 46 ℃ is a source of water, and the hot water is blowing up from the rock pattern in the center of the bathtub like the eruption of the volcano, and the hot spring of the favorite (there is also a little wet bathtub) It was good for the hot spring of the leg. It is hotter than the bathtub of the hot water of the gold hot water of Arima Onsen (44 ℃) which goes 3 times in the month 2 ~, and there is a water bath because it has a sauna, and the hot spring → water bath is repeated 3 times and arranged. After jogging the next morning, I usually just wash my whole body in the shower, but I entered the hot spring here. In the morning, when I opened the window, Mt. Fuji looked magnificent and was lucky in the room on the Mt. Fuji side. The comfort in the room and the contents of the breakfast lunch are 〇 1 ~ 2 evaluations, but the hot springs are 〇 5 evaluations. A couple has breakfast (bento), free parking fee, ¥ 8,600 per night (coupon use) and cospa are 〇 5 evaluations. i should go to the hot spring.

This lovely hotel (its a bit dated, but everything is clean and very nice) is right on the lake, and very quiet. Its 10 minutes driving distance from the Kawaguchi-Ko bus stand/train station and there is a free hotel shuttle every hour. I would definitely go for rooms with a view - either of the lake, or of Fujisan. We went for rooms with lake view, and very much enjoyed it. The rooms are big and very comfortable, with a desk, an armchair and a sofa. There is also a small balcony, with amazing views of the lake. Its so peaceful, especially in the early morning or during sunset. The hotel is located in a large garden. There is an indoor and lovely outdoor onsen, where you can bath in the warm water whilst seeing bamboo and hearing birds. Breakfast is a good buffet. The restaurant for dinner is rather expensive, so i would recommend eating in one of the few restaurants in the small town.

Pros: 1. The room comfortably accommodated 3 adults, although the bathroom was a bit small even for one person. 2. The overall cleanliness of the hotel was satisfactory. 3. Breakfast met our expectations. 4. The onsen experience was enjoyable overall. 5. The hotel's location is convenient, being close to Lake Kawaguchiko. 6. Free parking area is near the hotel entrance. Cons: 1. We specifically booked a room with a ”mountain view” hoping to see Mount Fuji. Our room was on level 3. Unfortunately, we were disappointed to find that our view only included the tip of the mountain, obstructed by buildings and electric cables. This was quite different from the picturesque view advertised on their website. Considering the high price of the room (SGD$800 per night for 3 persons), this was a huge disappointment. We strongly believe that the hotel should reconsider offering level 3 rooms as 'mountain view' rooms and reserve levels 4 and 5 for this category, as this feels like a misrepresentation. 2. Dinner was a huge letdown. We were served only 2 platters of meat (pork and beef) of average quality and 1 vegetable platter for Shabu Shabu. The selection was extremely limited. Although we were offered a Kaiseki Ryori (multi-course Japanese-style meal) for the next evening, there was an additional charge of over $3000+ yen per person for the upgrade. Despite the extra cost, this option seemed more appealing as we did not want to have the same Shabu Shabu two nights in a row.

If you are looking for a zen accommodation that is far and away from the hustle and bustle, one that exudes tranquility, has the perfect Mt Fuji view with no photobomb (no one to vie with you for the best view / photo spot) and is new, modern and basically impeccable a room, this is the right hotel for you. I have almost nothing but praises for this accommodation except perhaps its location. As it is allll the way up the hilly area and right on the opposite side of Lake Kawaguchiko’s main bustling area, you can really only rely on 1) their shuttle service which has pretty limited timings (last shuttle at 4.30pm) cos after all it’s mostly meant for shuttling guests on arrival only 2) taxi which is expensive ~ 10mins ride up for 3,000 yen 3) driving your own vehicle. Apart from its distant proximity to the station and all, it really is the best kind of accommodation where it’s almost like an attraction itself, the kind where you intentionally spend a night at the hotel just to get the full experience. Have a look at the photos and let the photos do the talking (sorry they are kinda blurry as I took screenshots off the room video instead). Service is excellent, and staff is really nice and helpful too albeit limited English-speaking staff. They have a Mandarin-speaking staff onsite which is really helpful. My friend and I opted for breakfast as well which is pretty good, but note that you will have to inform the receptionist on your preferred time slot (nothing like the buffet style / seating) at the end of the day (they would likely approach you to ask abt it though so no worries even if you had forgotten abt it). Note that the private hot spring bath in the room is simply natural hot spring water and not onsen; silly me thought it was onsen 🥲 anyhow, the bathtub was really clean too so plus points to the housekeeping. All in all, a really lovely, enjoyable and most definitely unforgettable stay at Kumonoue Fuji! Would I choose to stay here again on my next trip to Mt Fuji? Absolutely, in a heartbeat!

I stayed in a room with a hot spring bath on the Mt. Fuji side of the East Building. Blessed with the weather, I took a long view of Mt. Fuji from the evening to the next morning and soaked in the hot springs many times. (Laughs) The quality of the Kawaguchiko Onsen at this hotel is a neutral calcium, sodium-sulphate, and chlorine-based disinfection is heated and circulated, including a large communal bath and a private room bath. It is not a source hanging, but it is well managed including the spring temperature. It warmed up well. It seems to be a room meal, but I stayed at 々 at the end of the year 12/29 night, probably because there were many guests, in the dining room on the 7th floor, dinner was a course kaiseki dish, breakfast was a buffet. The beef stew that I expected was also served on the course because the amount was small, but it felt like a taste. Each was carefully cooked in a small amount, and the quality and quantity were satisfactory. I stayed until 11:00 in the morning, and I took a bath 5 times in another 々 large communal bath once, 3 times in the room bath. In addition, the large communal bath has a waterfall and an open-air rock bath in the foreground, and a large cypress bath in the back. I think the impression will change depending on the way Mt. Fuji looks, but I was lucky 々. Since it is the year-end and New Year holidays, the high accommodation fee is natural, but it was a satisfying content for the room, meal, bath, service, and environment that matched it.

Fabulous “destination” hotel…. The food was incredible (either French or Japanese degustation style menu). You could not get a better viewpoint for Mt Fuji. Advice: traditional public onsen so no tattoos but they have private baths too so happy days; a car would be helpful as the taxi service is fairly sp****; if you don’t have a car then book Taka from Native Fuji Tours (he was 10/10)… and pay the extra for a higher floor… we had one with a bath on the balcony… stunning!

SSchimakhasä von SaajulieThe Taisho period hot spring hotel brought a perfect end to a tiring day. Because it was already late when we arrived at Minobu Town, it was already past the dinner reservation time. The hotel owner not only helped us patiently try to contact nearby restaurants that might still be open, but in the end They even made an exception and provided us with free dinner delivered to the room (it also specifically stated that it was ”サービス”). One of the older waiters asked us if we were here because of ”Swinging Camping” (laughs) The boss is really a gentle and enthusiastic person. He smiles every time he sees us. The waiter at the hotel was also very attentive. He was waiting outside the door at 7 o'clock in the morning and took us to the breakfast dining area. Although the hotel's hot spring is small, it has all the facilities. It also provides matching yukata, haori and socks. The Japanese room also far exceeded expectations, just like those in Japanese comics and games. If I have a chance to come to Miyanoyama next time, I will definitely book with them again!

The structure is very intimate as it is hidden in the mountains and far from various services. It can be reached at the “Shimobe Onsen” stop on the Minobu Line. The staff is welcoming, affable, smiling. Some speak English. The rooms are in vintage Japanese style and I personally found them comfortable and clean. Mine had a bathroom with a self-heating tablet, skin care soaps and various hygiene products (toothbrushes, brushes, hand cream, cotton buds, etc.). Then there was the main room with a well-kept window corner, a Japanese-style table and chairs, and finally some wardrobes. One of the closets held futons. At the reception you can ask the staff to fix it for you while you are at dinner. I'm pretty sure I've also seen someone around choosing a mattress-cot instead in case you can't or can't sleep on the futon. There are very tight opening hours for breakfast and dinner (breakfast 7-9 am and dinner until 6-8 pm). You can access both with a ticket that you can get for free at reception. For lunch, however, you have to pay separately. It is mainly a buffet type of menu regarding breakfast and dinner. Obviously if you order something special (certain dishes or alcoholic drinks etc) these must be paid for. Small note on the buffet: It is very different from what we are used to in the West so don't be scared if in the morning you find a croissant with a skewer of roasted fish inside. This is not hyperbole. I'm serious. The food is good and the basic portions are small but no one is stopping you from having an encore if you want more. As regards the heart of the structure, i.e. the onsen, this is divided into two types: Private and Public. The public onsen consists of two areas that reverse approximately every 6 hours. One for the male gender and the other for the female gender. A very kind oba-San taught me some basics which I will summarize for the more curious: When you enter, undress and put everything in the basket. Bring with you only the small towel (I will call it ”rag” from here on out). When reaching the pool area, do not jump in before having washed in the showers. There are products there (soap, shampoo, conditioner) and basins with chairs. Rinse both, moisten the cloth and then fill it with soap. Wash as normal but be sure to use the cloth to remove dirt and dead skin by scratching the skin. When you're done, rinse yourself and the cloth. Finally, pass the cloth under cold water and wring out. Put it on your head and off you go, go to whichever tub you prefer. Personally I recommend you vary between the hot and cold ones for circulation but if you only like the heat you can still vary with the sauna. The cold patch is used to help with dizziness if you have low blood pressure or to cool down when needed. As for the private onsen, it must be booked in advance and every 40 minutes

GGuest UserI stayed here with my 16 year old son. We were looking for something very authentic Japanese. Kakurinbo was perfect. We stayed two days after arriving in Japan and it was a great peaceful quiet way to recover from jet lag. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms very clean and spacious. We had the garden view and enjoyed green tea each morning while watching the giant koi fish in the pond. The food was Delicious and artful in presentation. Even my 16 year old son who lives in frozen pizza and ice cream was happy with the food. The wine bath was a special treat and relaxing to soak each evening with a window to view the garden. Even the map they gave us on arrival was awesome not was very detailed and had so Lucy information that was useful as well as interesting. I was sad that the first day I lost mine but the gave me another. We went each morning to the temple service and I recommend to go. During the service a monk shows the incense bowls and invites people up to burn incense. The “map” explains how to do it and watch someone go up then don’t be shy and do it. Also don’t forget to do the water purifying outside. Again, the “map” explains. We also took the ropeway to the top and we’re blessed with a view of Mt.Fuji. Thank you for a memorable time my son and I will always cherish.
