This is the perfect place to stay while visiting the OBX. It is centrally located in Manteo making it accessible to walking around the town. It’s not that far backup to the town of Duck and down through Kitty Hawk to Nags Head. The amenities are nice and include a huge flat screen TV. The room was immaculate and the staff were accessible and accomodating. We didn’t eat at the restaurant so we can’t comment on that. We were pleasantly surprised to be greeted with wine and cheese when we arrived late in the afternoon.

With the Tranquil House Inn under new management my husband and I were eager to try 1587 Restaurant. We've lived in Manteo for 4 years and never made it to 1587 Restaurant under it's former iteration. But we were determined to try the new version, partly out of curiosity and partly to find a spot in downtown Manteo for the occasional dinner. So, we went to 1587 Restaurant last Wednesday and were wowed. First, the Tranquil House Inn is a beautiful spot. We arrived at 5pm and not surprisingly were the first to be seated. 1587 Restaurant is smallish with 10 tables and a beautiful bar area (their Copper Bar is widely known to all). Our table was a window seat right along the boardwalk which gave us a bird's eye view of all the boats in the harbor. We had a chance to see boat owners setting out cocktails and inviting their neighbors to join them, and to see boats pull up to the dock with owners heading into 1587 Restaurant. It was a beautiful evening and it was great to view the 'show' in the harbor. The menu at 1587 Restaurant is small and select, covering all the bases. There are salads and appetizers for starters, and entrees cover seafood, beef and chicken so everyone will find something to enjoy. There is an appetizer and entree special each night. I ordered a glass of wine (and received a very generous pour) and the Catch of the Day which was Tuna, and comes with Jasmine Rice, Broccolini and a Pineapple Salsa. My husband ordered the Shrimp Risotto. Both were delicious and the presentation was gorgeous. I ordered Key Lime Pie for dessert and was pleased that I received an ample but not huge portion - just enough to satisfy but not so much that I was overwhelmed. We had a lit votive at our table and the overall atmosphere is understated coastal elegance. We did not order cocktails but the drinks menu is very intriguing and next time we'll come with friends who love a great cocktail menu. 1587 Restaurant does not take reservations and although we were not guests of the Tranquil Inn we were welcomed warmly. I'm so glad we've found our downtown spot for dinner!

I had an early dinner here before The Lost Colony. The service was warm and friendly and the food was good. The dining room has windows looking onto the water. And a talented young woman musician played the guitar and sang rock and roll classics. I wish I’d noted her name.

The location was adequate, however, the shops nearby all close at 6pm except a few. Nothing nearby opens until 8am. The coffee place near opens at 7am but for us early birds that wasn't early enough. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. They aren't there after 6pm so can be tricky to catch them. The room was clean but smelled like a basement so we had to listen to the dehumidifier running 24/7 so that was annoying. Couldn't hear the TV over it. We found this place advertised as a bed and breakfast and it is not. Breakfast is booked eggs, yogurt, muffin and juice.

First of all, you have to book with a third party agency which also charges you a fee on top of all the other fees the Inn charges. Our four night stay cost us over $1500. The room was a standard size with 2 queen beds. Upon our arrival we were not offered any help with our luggage and had to climb two flights of stairs to the room. No daily maid service was provided, not even to empty the small trash cans in the room. They did offer a "continental breakfast which was sub par to say the least. Hard boiled eggs, small blueberry muffins, juice coffee, yogurt, fruit and water. For the price of the room, they should have offered a free full breakfast. The staff was friendly and the place was clean, but for the money you pay to stay there, there should have been more amenities. It was located right on the water front and you could walk to the shops and restaurants in the "downtown" area. All that being said , we did enjoy our vacation but would not stay there again. Probably would have been less expensive to rent a condo on the beach.

Tranquil House Inn is the perfect place to stay for your visit to the outer banks. My girlfriend and I stayed in an amazing King room with a deck looking out over the water right outside the door. The staff were amazing, and the food and drinks at the restaurant were incredible too. Can't wait to visit again!

Nice quaint hotel, friendly staff, and excellent location. Lives being close to water. Not alot of parking, but no problem since we walked everywhere. Good breakfast. All rooms were outside entrance which was only negative experience. Would go again.

The stay was very good, even though a storm had come through the day before which caused the restaurant to close.

We came in the (very) off-season: right after New Years. Manteo is an incredibly charming town that we have enjoyed many times. This time, we were there Jan 1 -3 and it's prime season is summer, so a lot was shut down. We didn't care. Tranquil House Inn is in the very heart of Manteo, and we were looking for a quiet post-holiday decompression. It was wonderful for that. The people were great. It was a great get-away.
