Business traveller. I booked this hotel for the room service and views overt the golf course to the sea. Unfortunately I had neither. I was emailed on check day to say kitchen would not be open in the evening, I could deal with that, but gave little time to rearrange accommodation as a solo female traveller. So went hoping the surroundings and hotel would make up for it. Sadly not. The room was very dated with evident damp issues, wall paper was hanging on for dear life. Condensation internally on windows in June…speaks volumes. Bed was lumpy, and mattress very dipped. Could be such an amazing place. young lad on reception was friendly, but really needs some tlc. It was clean, but floors and beds so creaky, and you can see where they are just patching it all up. Real shame as was looking for a good priced regular stay over for work.

What a dreadful attempt at an afternoon tea! Not as advertised and when queried was told it was the ‘old menu’ - that said they couldn’t provide the new one!! Aside from the cheap bread and margarine which tasted like a soggy napkin - their equivalent of smoked salmon and cucumber is tuna mayo and the coronation chicken is non existent! Their attempt at chicken goujons resembled the chicken strips in a fast food chain! Cake anyone? Oh dear what can I say about the cakes - they were so manufactured I don’t think they have a sell buy date! Far from the bara brith and trifle advertised. And at a cost of £30 - The Ashburnham Hotel are in the business or ripping people off! Verdict: avoid!

Stayed for an organised evening meal with 12 others in private dining room. The food was mediocre and the service was poor. The accommodation is tired.

The hotel itself is three star bordering on two star taking into account what we paid for the accommodation. The hotel's location was pretty good for access to nearby beaches and points of interest. The hotel had a very "tired" feel to it overall. Our room was labelled as an "executive double room" ! The bed was a king size firm, well worn, mattress which was slightly undersized in length so hung over the rear of the two single joined divans). The bathroom was the most odd, a good size with newish appliances but was just wrong! The toilet was situated in front of a low window with just a form of frosted glass to conceal occupancy, quite visible from the outside albeit from the carpark over a flat roof. Probably the biggest surprise was a victorian style bath in the middle of the room which had a shower head attachment. There was no shower curtain so to use the shower head standing up the water would just go everywhere. A walk-in shower replacement would have been a huge improvement although the bath itself did look nice, and we noticed it leaked underneath after use each time! In the room there were many corners and wall paper edges etc that need some work and the carpet did come across as "dusty" and possibly infrequently cleaned. The skylight area above the stairs down to reception was pretty disgusting with flaking paintwork and a rusty veneer all round (photo). On the plus side the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast eating area comfortable and accommodating. The breakfast, although limited in selection, was good (liked the thick meaty slices of bacon). So, in summary "you gets what you pay for" as the saying goes. We hope this helps with any decision making regarding a stay there. The pictures attached may give some idea of the above.

Very disappointed Sunday carvery. The Mushroom Welling was more like a Chinese spring roll.....normally the Mushroom Wellington is wonderful and full of mushrooms and cranberries with a delicious crusty pastry. But last Sunday was dire. I couldn't eat it. It was full of bits of veg and no mushrooms and the pastry was horrid. It had a spicy taste. Also I wasn't given vegi gravy. My partner and I agreed the gravy was awful, it was so thick and tasteless. But service was great, the staff are brilliant. Shame about the food, can't understand what's happened there.

Family visit for Sunday lunch. Really warm welcome. Friendly & efficient waiter took our drinks order. Had the carvery, which was lovely. Nice touch offering a baby bowl (£3) of carvery items as the little one doesn’t eat much. Loads of meat, just all really tasty. Definitely one of the best carveries around, will definitely me making a return visit.

Positives. Room was well fitted out and comfortable but a bottle of water would have been nice . Spacious restaurant and bar but arriving on Sunday, disappointed to hear they had no evening meal option, . not only that they didn’t really know for sure which restaurants would be open and where. All rather odd. A tip for the owners ; have something printed and ready with a list of restaurants, open on Sunday, evenings, phone, numbers and type of cuisine. Disappointing breakfast. Was expecting something special from wales but tasteless frankfurter style sausage over cooked bacon, and frankly, very unappetising. With a bit of sharpening up, it would be worth full stars

Where do I start. I used to visit the ashburnham hotel every week for Sunday lunch I even had my wedding here. Ever since the new owners have arrived the place has been slowly going down hill I originally stopped Going here due to the new owners attitude of how he spoke to me and my wife. After a conversation with me and why wife we decided go back for Sunday lunch, and the service was exactly The same the owner needs to have better people skills , very patronising definitely will not be returning from a local resident
