Hôtel Le Cro-Magnon

Absolutely charming hotel. Perfectly located for exploring Les Eyzies and the entire Dordogne region. The owners, Jan and Ruud, took what was already a recommended hotel and have added their many enhancements with great style and taste. The room was very comfortable with modern fixtures, furnishings, and WiFi. The bar and restaurant are first class. We enjoyed drinks on their lovely terrace and breakfast and dinner in the richly-furnished dining room. We did not have time to take advantage of the swimming pool given that we visited six different caves during our stay, but it looked very inviting in its garden setting. Free parking was conveniently located across the street. An ideal three-night stay and an excellent value.

What a wonderful experience! The hotel is a beautifully restored property with unique artwork. Our room was immaculate and very comfortable. Excellent breakfast served in a modern, warm environment. The location is close to the train station and an easy stroll into town. Ruud and Yann are knowledgeable hosts with recommendations that greatly enhanced or stay.

The hotel is historic, beautifully restored, ancient/modern interior that is dramatic and comfortable. Natural stone from the mountainside is incorporated into the walls and the terrace - spectacular. Renovations tasteful and simple - create an atmosphere that is authentic but contemporary. The hosts are wonderful - warm, professional, energetic and knowledgeable. Breakfast superb.

I have stayed at Hotel Cro-Magnon twice--it is an enchanting environment, and the service is wonderful--Jan and Ruud are so friendly and helpful. I hated to leave! Proximity to the town center, close to the river and the train station are a plus. Never enough time in Les Eyzies or at Cro-Magnon.

The hotel was a delight. We were lucky enough to stay for 9 nights and enjoyed every one of them. Yaan and Ruud make this lovely old place welcoming and comfortable. The breakfast is generous, and the dinners we had there were absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend the hotel enough. It's the ideal place to stay in a beautiful part of the world. The courtyard is so peaceful.

This beloved old hotel has a new life thanks to the two young men who took it over recently. The vibe is casual now, great for the paleontologists, cyclists, and tourists who choose Les Eyzies as home base in the region. The kitchen turns out excellent fare when the restaurant is open. We arrived just as a plague of staff problems had the proprietors spinning to do Everything, from serving our drinks to cleaning rooms. They managed it all and with unfailing good humor, though it did mean only breakfast was available most days. My newly refurbished room was well provisioned, though I suspect the shower drain is too small for the volume of water from the fabulous shower heads. Extra points for plenty of coat hangers, efficient air-conditioning, and functional exterior shutters. Delightful outdoor terrace. Pleasant pool area. The Cro-Magnon is precisely adjacent to the prehistoric site that gave its name to the entire era and to the hotel. Don’t miss a visit yo The Abri and its good little museum. The village center is within an easy walk, so the excellent museum of prehistory is close at hand as are a handful of restaurants. I recommend the Cro-Magnon. It’s a comfortable classic given new sparkle by the current owners. Jan and Ruud offer genuine hospitality at its finest.

Really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Very friendly owners do their best to welcome you. Room was nice. Very pleasant terrace and pool area outside. Found the food for dinner really tasty and well prepared. Coffee at breakfast not strong enough for me but you can ask for an espresso should you wish to. Very friendly staff. I'd definitely recommend this family run hotel!

Fabulous experience. Loved everything about our 2 night stay here. Jan and Ruudi are great hosts and just want their guests to have an amazing experience. Our room was lovely and spacious. The pool was perfect for a cool off and we enjoyed several limoncello sprinters and local beer/wines. Breakfast was fresh pastries, fruit, ham and cheeses. You won't be disappointed.

Very romantic, authentic house providing most comfortable accommodation without dispensable gimmicks. Beautiful, secretly set, pool area. Clean, charming, very friendly and helpful service, excellent kitchen and wines... perfect and most recommendable ! Thanks to all for our wonderful stay!
