Hotels near Nine Worlds in Laugarvatn

Beautiful set of small cottages located just a short (15 or so) minute drive from Selfoss. The cottages are quite small (and ours had a bunk bed) and don't come with shampoo or conditioner (which we were prepared for as we had been road-tripping through various cities). The kitchen has everything you need - cutlery, mugs, pots, pans, etc. The reception staff were fabulous and lent us some foil that we needed for our baking. They were also kind and granted us late check-out given that there was a storm the day of check-out. We also ate at the restaurant at night and, although empty, food was absolutely delicious, good value for money, and we were able to call ahead and order so the wait was short when we arrived. A set of 5-6 villas share three jacuzzis - we did not use these as the weather was freezing but I can imagine these would be fun! Worth noting you need a car if you are planning to stay here as the cottages are isolated and there is nothing nearby - the nearest town is Selfoss.

Great and comfortable stay. The keypad entry makes check in simple. Loved this feature. Several rooms were contained in housing unit and our neighbors were friendly, quiet, and/or absent. The door lock feature on our room required we lock the handle before entering our room. We didn't see another way to lock the door from within the room. We figured it out but advanced info would have helped.

A very comfortable hotel with exceptional food. It was great to see a kids menu that didn’t include fish with chips and burgers with fries. My son loved his meat balls. My dinner was the best I have eaten in an hotel or restaurant in Iceland over the last five days. I really do mean good !!! The staff are so friendly and helpful. We have stayed in a wide variety of hotels across south Iceland at different price ranges from low to high and this was the best … it’s clean and comfortable, staff are kind and lovely, the hotel is well maintained and the food is great. It doesn’t have the perception of luxury of some of the larger hotels and the rooms are rustic - however the hotel is wonderful for its simplicity and charm with high quality of food. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

Great location and nice view from our king room with river view. Bed was comfy and room was very clean. Desk personnel were exceptionally helpful and friendly. I can't comment on the value, as it was part of a package tour as prices were not broken out of total, but we would definitely stay there again. We had prepaid for breakfast, which was excellent, but we did not otherwise dine at the hotel restaurant, so can't comment on that.

This is one of the most unique and coolest places I have stayed at in my years of international travels. A silo converted into 4 bedrooms and a rooftop lounge - who would have imagined that? There were 7 of us travelling and we were lucky to have the entire tower to ourselves. The bedrooms exceeded my expectation in that they have very modern and hi-tech facilities inside (such as the ceiling ambiance lights that change colours), while keeping a simplistic and clean design. The rooms are well equipped with power outlets; safety equipment like fire extinguisher, fire blanket, smoke detector; a small kitchenette with sink, stove and kitchenware; a tabletop attached to the wall along with 2 chairs; and even a small portable fan. There are drawers under the bed for storage. The bathroom is spacious and has a large wall mirror and heated towel rack. Rooms on upper floors have much stronger water pressure than the ground floor. Lots of natural lights in the rooms. One of the windows is screened to prevent bugs from flying in. We left that window open for air circulation. Biting midges can be an issue at night time during summer. We were lucky we didn't come across these bugs as the temperature was exceptionally cool during our visit, but that screened window would have prevented the issue. Wi-Fi works well. In contrary to other comments I have read, I found the bedroom to be of a decent size; there's enough floor space to open up a suitcase or two - the issue is bringing a full suitcase up the winding staircase to the upper floors. That's why I transferred what I needed for the 1-night stay into my carry on. There are 4 parking spots at the bottom of the tower, clearly marked with each apartment number. The metal staircase that goes around the outside of the tower is non-slip but has open slats. Those who are scared of heights may want to pick the lower floors. The rooftop lounge, with windows all around, provides panoramic views of the surrounding area. It will be a great place to watch the northern lights while staying warm indoors. When people go up and down the metal staircase, the sound carries through the tower. It doesn't bother me, but it may be annoying to some. My daughter on the 4th floor said she could hear me talking from my 3rd floor room - something to be aware of. Overall, very happy with the stay and look forward to visiting again and staying longer!

The location is very good and very easy to find, opposite the gas station, supermarket and KFC, below is the 66 store, behind the house is the free parking lot. We stayed in a suite with four beds and a sofa bed, but we only lived three people, it seems a bit extravagant, hahaha. The bathroom is also very large and very comfortable to use. The kitchen facilities are also very complete, although we are not useful, but it feels good. The young girl who checked in was not experienced enough (but she was really good-looking, blond). The first time I met people who were very poor in English, so I was tired when I first started communicating. Although I understood it later, I still feel it. I suggest that the English spoken by the little girl can be simple, or take out some English tips early (we will find papers with English tips later)

Overall we loved our stay at Grimsborgir, but I would like to begin by mentioning a few aspects that can be improved. When we arrived the room seemed dusty, as if not used by other guests for a long time and then not freshened up before we arrived. This improved after the first night. The cleaning staff also made a few mistakes like taking towels without replacing them and forgetting items like wiping cloths or cleaning sprays in random places - this happened on 3 out of 6 days. Also the design of the double bed was a bit minimalistic - it did not have a headboard - compared to other double beds from less expensive rooms in your hotel this is a mild disappointment. Overall we were very happy with our stay in your hotel - we had everything we needed and we would gladly stay with you again. I just have one question which I would be very grateful if you could answer me. What kind of mattress did the double bed have? We found it to be extremely pleasant to sleep on and I would like to buy one if you could tell me where from. The hotel is close to Gullfoss waterfall and a short hop to Geysir. It’s very remote and high up and is almost the last stop on route 35 before it becomes an F road (rough unsurfaced track with river crossings) that crosses the centre of Iceland. In winter and in the snow this is a cold and icy place and a picture of splendid isolation. So enough about the location. The hotel itself is not a mountain chalet but has that sort of vibe about it. It’s 3 star and family run. It’s not large maybe 30-35 rooms I would guess. It’s Restaurant and Lounge area are contained on the one space though separated by screens and it is all very bright and airy with great views. The bedrooms were not that large but had everything you need and were warm and cozy with decent bathroom and modern fittings and overall of a very good standard. We ate in the restaurant and I was a bit nervous of what the standard might be like and I had considered driving to a nearby restaurant through the snow and ice at night. I need not have worried. The food was excellent and really well prepared and this standard persisted when we had breakfast the following morning and this was a really pleasant surprise well above expectations for a remote three star hotel. It’s family run and you really get the impression that the staff are proud of their hotel and they should be. It’s great. They were very attentive and pleasant and clearly knew what they were doing despite all being quite young. One little piece of advice for the hotel. Put a bit more cozy furniture in the reception area. It’s a wee bit Spartan and a small change would make that welcome feeling you get in the hotel complete, but that’s a very small point and I highly recommend this sweet little mountain hotel.
