Aktiv Hotel Schweizerhof Kitzbuhel

Our third visit to this lovely hotel. Staff were once again amazing. Friendly, professional, attentive etc etc. Relaxing hotel. Immaculately clean as always. Delicious breakfasts. Evening meals were often very rich. Desserts too fancy. Not as enjoyable as last year. Bar areas a little uninspiring. Not used by many people in the evening but pleasant in the day. Our room was lovely however disappointing toiletries so bought our own. Bedding not changed which was strange for a 4 star. Skiing was fine especially 9am till 12. No skiing back to hotel however. Though lifts being across the road is excellent. Transfer was enjoyable. Kitzbuhel is beautiful. Lots of places to eat and drink. Plus very tasteful shops. Will return next year. Hopefully more snow.

Whilst our ski holiday was sadly cut short because of injury, our stay at the Schweizerhof was amazing. It takes ski in ski out to another level just steps to the lift and the last run down, the rooms are comfortable with a view to the mountain, ski room perfectly appointed with plenty of space to get ready, public areas comfortable with after ski snacks and the food is amazing. Breakfasts have a huge range of hot and cold options and the evening meals were a delight. You chose your main course in the morning from a meat, fish or veggie option and there was pasta or weinerschnitzel if none of those suited. The menus were adventurous, beautifully plated and delicious. With starters and salads beforehand and dessert (and cheese if you could manage it). What really made the holiday though, was the staff who were friendly and polite but I particularly want to commend Katy and Christian who are part of the reception team - their kindness and support made a horrible situation bearable, even to the point of Katy checking how I was when I got home - absolutely above and beyond. So thank you Team Schweizerhof - we hope to return.

We cannot praise Hotel Schweizerhof any higher - one of the best hotels we have stayed at. It ticked all the boxes and more! Their standards are high. The quality of food is first class and the breakfast choices are endless. We found every single member of staff to be friendly, obliging and courteous. We had a wonderful spacious and comfortable room on top floor with a great view of the slope at the rear. The bed and pillows were the best so much so I had to check what kind of mattress it was - memory foam I think! The hotel is in a prime position elevated and just across from the main lift and rail station with great views front and rear.

An excellent hotel for many reasons. The location is great: adjacent to the Hahnenkamm Cable station on the lower slopes of the mountain. KitzSki is not big, but you can end up rather removed from the Centre- this hotel is a 5 minute walk down to the town Centre and close to all you need- such as the Hahnenkamm Rail Station. The room was plenty big enough, comfy and clean with a balcony to sit out and look over the town. It all seems to be recently renovated and the shower was very efficient and all worked well. Food was superb. Although I would have like not to have been sat in the darker end of the dining room ( which seemed reserved for those on a half board package), this didn’t overshadow the food on offer. The breakfast buffet was wide ranging- great fresh fruit and yoghurts on offer, and the evening 4 course meals were superb. The whole place was welcoming and friendly in a way a small hotel should be!

Great hotel with ski storage with locker, right beside the lift. 5 minute walk to the center of town. Room was clean and there were great winter hot drinks.

Our stay at the Activhotel Scheizerhof in Kitzbuhel surpassed our expectations. We had chosen it particualrly because of its location being very close to both the Hahnenkammbahn and the train station, and at the end of the holiday we both said that we could not have made a better choice. The hotel itself was first rate. The room was spacious with plenty of storage space for clothes, far more than you would normally get. The bathroom was also spacious with strong water pressure in the shower. The views from the dining room were really lovely, and the food was wonderful. There was anything you could wish for in the breakfast buffet, and the evening meals were some of the best we have enjoyed in a holiday destination. The terrace was large and we often enjoyed a drink out there after a day on the alpine trails. All the staff gave service with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. We would certainly recommend the hotel to others and would be happy to return. Just a couple of small points. It was a very hot week when we were there and so a fan in the room would have been brilliant although I do believe that if we had asked for one, we would have been given one, and the other point is that we would have loved to have had a BBC World News Channel to keep us up to date with what was happening in the UK. We really enjoyed our stay and we would like to thank all the staff for helping to make is so memorable.

I normally start reviews focusing on the front of house staff and how engaging and helpful they were. This review is no different. Whether it was advice for a day trip or service at breakfast, dinner or in the bar, nothing was too much trouble. However, I also want to mention the kitchen team. I don't normally go half board but it was the only choice when I booked. I would do this more often given my recent experience though! Breakfast was the usual fresh tasty affair with what seemed to be a much larger variety of fresh fruit than I have usually experienced. Dinner was what swung it for me though. The kitchen staff worked magic throughout my stay. Aside from different appetizers, soups and beautifully presented desserts every night, there was also a choice of three different mains; fish, meat and vegetarian with schnitzel as a backup for those that didn't fancy the three current offers. The quality and variety was top notch. This was not a typical conveyor belt or buffet experience. My room was spacious and had a two seater sofa when I had time to switch off from my daily hikes. It was very warm when I was there, as was the case across most of Europe at this time so, with no AC, I was given a small powerful fan which did the trick. (There is a bit of construction work around the town, but when I closed my windows at night it never bothered me even when they started early in the mornings.) The spa was quiet and relaxing and a great way to unwind after a day in the mountains. The location is excellent as it is beside the local train station, meaning I could go a few day trips, and also beside the Hahnenkamm cable car, while only a 15 minute walk from Kitzbuehler Horn cable cars. Great location for the Hahnenkamm lift and buses to other locations along the valley. Be prepared for some noise from the railway overnight if you're in a front facing room but it's worth it for the views. Salad buffet at dinner is great and dinner menu varied. Breakfast buffet fine but hot items could be better. Staff always friendly and helpful. Swimming pool was cold but I loved it!

We have been visiting the Alps for walking holidays for nearly 20 years and have stayed in a wide variety of locations and accommodation types, so have a good idea of what we need from a hotel. We like to stay somewhere close to the town/village centre, but not in the centre itself, ideally with some on-site facilities, such as a swimming pool. We like being close to the lifts and/or public transport as well. We always stay half board and prefer hotels which include a daily packed lunch, as this means that we don’t have to waste valuable walking time on trying to find food. We like comfortable rooms, preferably with a balcony and a nice view and a seating area is always a bonus too. In Kitzbühel, there were plenty of suitable hotels to choose from, but we were slightly horrified by the prices which were much higher than we had hoped. I guess we have Brexit and inflation to thank for that! In the end, we picked the Schweizerhof because it ticked all of our boxes and also had excellent reviews. We could only afford the cheapest room category, so we were not expecting to be given a particularly luxurious room. We arrived at the hotel at lunchtime and were delighted that our room was already available for check in (and that we could also pick up our Guest Pass). We were given room 218, which was on the second floor, overlooking the hotel driveway and the Hahnenkammbahn cable car. The room was much larger than we expected, with 2 big wardrobes, a mini fridge, a desk and a separate seating area, and was very nicely decorated in a modern style. We were also pleased to see that we had a Juliet balcony, with large floor to ceiling windows. The bathroom was also a good size, with plenty of storage space, but was decorated in a slightly more old-fashioned way than the bedroom. The shower cubicle was a bit on the small side, and we did have some issues with water temperature stability, but nothing that really impacted on our holiday. Although we did like our room overall, it would be fair to say that it was quite noisy. We had to have the windows open at night as we were there in warm weather, which meant that we were subject to noise from the road, the train, the cable car and some nearby building work. This was fine during the day, but a little annoying at night. Thankfully, my wax earplugs blocked out most of the noise! We also found that the pillows were not very good quality. These were minor issues though and wouldn’t stop us staying there again. The reviews that we had seen suggested that the Schweizerhof had a reputation for excellent food, and we certainly found this to be true. The evening meals were a particular highlight, with some very inventive and well-presented main dishes and desserts. As meat-eaters, but not fish-eaters, we had a choice of 2 main courses each evening (meat or veggie), which was fine from our point of view, but vegetarians might find the lack of choice frustrating.
