Samira Exclusive Hotel & Apartments

Kalkan|0.27km from Halı Saha
We stayed for 11 days in early May and we were very pleased with the hotel. It's small, very clean and staffed by friendly and helpful people. I have been in 5 star hotels in the past which were not as good as The Samira Exclusive. Rooms were cleaned every day and towels were changed; the towels were very good quality, thick and fluffy and bering the hotel's insignia. The only not so good points are the WIFI, which can be temperamental and the breakfast which was underwhelming. Breakfast consisted of mainly cold salads, boiled eggs and two warm (never hot enough) dishes; these were usually chopped local sausages mixed with peppers, and potatoes or occasionally baked beans. If you wanted eggs cooked any other way it would cost extra, this seemed a little petty; the bread however was very good. We didn't eat there in the evenings but I understand from others that the quality of the menu at that time was very good. We had a late evening flight home and asked about the possibility of extending our check out by a few hours, this cost us £40, which I feel is quite steep. The hotel was quite empty when we arrived but began to fill up as the season progressed and I can see possible problems in the high season with queues in the restaurant which is small and finding beds around the pool. Of course we already saw people rising at cock crow to claim beds with their towels and often these beds were hardly used, this is something the hotel should clamp down on. There is no lift either so the hotel is only accessible to the able bodied. Kalkan itself is very impressive; it's extremely picturesque, surrounded by hills and peppered with small winding cobbled streets full of restaurants and art shops, no sign of the usual tourist 'tat'. It is very steep though and I wouldn't recommend it to disabled people or those with small children and push chairs. It is also very expensive, eating out cost us about the same as we would pay to eat out in the UK. People who were frequent visitors told us the prices has almost doubled in the last year or two since Covid. Would I recommend it? Definitely, and I would return to the Samira Exclusive but it would be nice to see the points I have raised being addressed.

I could have rated this place 10 stars, honestly the staff are amazingly welcoming and warm. They make you feel home, make sure you're comfortable and always there smiling and ready to fulfill your requests. Rooms are spacious, loads of drawers and wardrobes, soooo clean and neat, view to the beach from balcony and view to a mail card landscape from the 5th floor where the buffet breakfast is served. The food is tasty, varied and the hygiene overall is top. You gonna enjoy showering and the air conditioner is turning off automatically when you open the balcony. I'm spending a week and I'm still there at the minute and wanna try their spa that looks great. Few of them only speak a very good English, however the barrier language was invisible because all members of staff, every single one I met was communicating with me in any way possible to socialise and that was the cherry on top. Also the hotel is close to the beach, close to my favourite restaurant and others and the market every Thursday just nearby 🤍

In addition to the hot water faucet in the room I live in, there is a problem (the shower head of the direct hot water heater is gone, the shower that centrally supplies hot water in the wall is not hot for 20 minutes, I want to twist it down and receive the direct hot type without a wrench. I don’t know if other rooms are like this. Finally, I can use my palms to splash water on the hot water exit of the direct-heat electric water heater. There is nothing wrong with the others. Breakfast in the morning tastes good and the scenery on the beach is good, so check the hot water before check-in. I can't ask for a room change immediately to avoid stepping on the pit.

Lupia Suites

This October we stayed at Lupia suites and it was absolutely amazing. The apartment style rooms are so spacious and interior was fab. The reception and pool are equally brilliant, with the most friendly and attentive staff! Location wise, you couldn’t get better for the quality of the rooms, only a 5 minutes walk to the beach and old town, which is really where you want to be staying. I was confused how there weren’t more reviews raving about this place, however ive learnt that it has only recently opened. Overall, brilliant. From someone that doesn’t write reviews, I had to share what a great experience I had at Lupia!

This is a genuine B&B, located at the end of the main street, next to the fake Chinese restaurant. The room is above a small cafe, so sometimes guests need to use their keys to enter and exit from the side door after the shop is closed. The decoration of the room is very tuned and tidy. The scenery outside the window is beautiful, but it is very unpleasant that the air conditioner is blowing towards the head, and the remote control cannot adjust the wind. If you don’t turn it on, it will heat you up in minutes. If you turn it on, it can be directly blown* *, almost fell asleep in the end. Opposite is a bar. I was in the hustle and bustle of Bengci before three o’clock in the middle of the night. The owner is British and very friendly. The backstage and kitchen are not locked at night. You can take whatever you want to eat and drink, and talk to others in the morning. Just say it. Before we left, because we had to catch a plane, we also prepared sandwiches for us. Although it was unpalatable, (the dogs didn’t even eat it...) but it was still very rare and kind. I like it.

I’m giving The Samira five stars, yes the hotel is a bit dated but it’s by no means bad at all. I’ve been to so many places in Turkey now and Kalkan has my heart. I love the Samira, mainly due to the staff, they work so hard and are so pleasant and friendly. I want to say a personal Thank-you to Niyazi, he’s the bar manager and he is just a lovely guy and nothing is too much trouble for him. The owner doesn’t realise how lucky he is to have such good staff. I witnessed a few times him coming down and appearing to be on the staffs backs all the time. We didn’t get our suitcases until two days into our holiday. This being due to Easy Jet and their lack of competence. The way the staff helped us was just lovely, from Kevin the reception guy at night and to the lovely lady who was on reception throughout the day. So helpful, especially as my daughter and I were getting upset due to EJ not really caring about the cases at all. So yes, the hotel may be a little dated but my goodness! The staff make up for it. So thank you to all of you for being the people you are. The Samira is a home from home to me, it felt like I’d known the staff for ages. We’ve been twice now and will be going again next year. To the owner! Appreciative your staff! Niyazi especially! His English is so good and his personality and caring manner matches it. Maybe update your rooms a bit but please never change your staff! It’s those hardworking people who make the place it is. Be good to your staff…and they will be good to you. Something for the owner to think about.
