Cuxos Hotel Beachfront

Isla Mujeres|0.2km from Monumento al Pescador Caido
I normally do a heavy homework before we pick a place but it was honestly very hard to find anything about Cuxos so I hope others considering this property can benefit from our experience as the place definitely has some big pluses but also some serious negatives. One thing I would get out of the way is that I would not call it a hotel but more of a condo rental that has room service, while the actual ”lobby” is the bar at Chichis & Charlies Restaurant right in front of it (they own also another property here adjacent to Cuxos Hotel, directly behind the restaurant and it's called Chichi's 'n Charlies - you can find their separate TripAdvisor profile here, I think a lot of people confuse the 3 properties a lot...). If I still got your attention then look into details below. Location: this is the biggest seller of Cuxos, it's the only property (next to Chichi's ”old building next to it”) that is an absolute beachfront on Playa Norte. There are some properties next door but they have restaurants and pools in front of them while Cuxos is right there on the beach, you walk out of the room and you are on the sand enjoying the ocean. We took the car ferry so the distance from the terminal is longer than from regular ferry but the latter is definitely a walking distance - you simply follow the main road towards Playa Norte and when it ends at the roundabout by the Playa Centro you just continue on the sandy small narrower road (we were the one of only 2 cars there driving, everyone else was on a golf cart) that leads you all the way to the Chichis And Charlies where your ”check in desk” is located. You can cross also to the rooms through the Nautibeach Condos parking lot - sadly though you are not allowed to park a car there... so keep that in mind. From here everything is walking distance, in our 4 nights stay we moved the car once only when we took a drive to the south of Isla Mujeres (visiting Punta Sur is a must!) so at the end of the day the lack of parking lot wasn't that terrible but then again we visited in COVID November 2020 so much fewer people on the island... Grounds/Building: there are 3 structures; the restaurant, the ”old” building of Chichi's 'n Charlies separate property (make sure you book the one you actually want) and then the on of Cuxos Hotel - it appeared from many older pictures that Cuxos was the most recent addition and it may be just couple years old, although the elements do wear everything down pretty fast so you can't really tell it from the outside really. While the old building has the restaurant directly in front of it, the Cuxos has the Beach Club where your free daily beach chairs are located - pretty convenient (see my separate review on the restaurant and the beach club). The parking for the car was the ”side” road that leads to the beach, it's narrow but that's all there is in the area so keep that in mind when hesitating between the car and golf cart for Isla Mujeres. Room: the rooms are very modern and u

Hotel Berny

Isla Mujeres|0.3km from Monumento al Pescador Caido
Room overall was clean and comfortable- though linens could use updating and curtains need replacing (holes in them). It was clearly redecorated fairly recently and looks very nice…. Mini fridge definite bonus! A/C worked great, fan in room was wonderful too. Housekeeping, maintenance, restaurant staff and overnight manager at reception were all wonderful! Day time manager was not. Every request or concern (burned out lights twice during 5 day stay) was met with a sigh and muttering. She was extremely unpleasant and never simply greeted us when we walked by. Could definitely use more storage (no dresser), and a line or hooks for drying items…. The few there were weren’t enough. The bathroom needs some serious renovating. It’s dark, and dingy, (in ways I was glad it was dark because I didn’t really want to k ow what it looked like). The shower head needs replacing (room 104) as it is so crusted/clogged with minerals etc that not much more than a few streams of water come up which made bathing a task… I actually took my toddler to the outdoor shower one night because trying to rinse her hair with the trickle of a stream was taking too long and she hates showers in general. The pool was clean and a nice bonus. Pool furniture not overly comfortable. Wall of green plants was a nice touch I’m pretty well traveled and generally stay in fairly inexpensive places… so I’m truly not overly picky and have stayed in some very basic places in Madagascar and Laos and Cambodia…. But even all of those had at the very least a shower that worked. Update the bathroom and get a manager that is actually hospitable and the place would be more of a 4. The super friendly staff (other than manager) are why I rated it a 3 and not a 2

An amazing experience . I was so skeptical from all these reviews but have nothing but great things to say about this place. It is a hostel and for a hostel it’s stunning , the location is great too. We stayed in the “ mini” room and it was great and quiet. The reviews say “ it’s so loud “ but it’s not even and I’m a light sleeper . I think the only way it’s “ so loud “ is if you stay on the teepee on the sand. I wouldn’t book them, they’re more $$, they’re behind the speaker and in sand . But the rooms or dorms are sweet, cleaners come every day, all facilities are great, security is always present and staff are lovely. I’m usually picky so I was so screwed after all these bad reviews but honestly can’t imagine why people are saying anything like that unless they expected a hotel or stayed in the teepee. The grounds are so beautiful and such a good location. ! It’s not a party hostel at all, if anything it’s too chill , there’s 2 nights they do a party but I never seen anything too large. Sleeping was fine with earplugs. Great hostel !

Had an amazing time at this property. My high rating is based on the bang-for-buck + location. We stayed in the Castle Rooms across the street from the main building and while the rooms we more basic than I have ever seen, the price and location made it all worth while. If you are looking for beautiful decor/artwork, fresh flowers, stocked fridge and over the top service then keep looking. If you are looking for a quick getaway directly on a perfect beach that will not break the bank then consider this option. We spent very little time in the unit except for sleep and shower. The room was very clean with daily housekeeping, the AC worked wonderfully and the little fridge was ice cold. The lack of in-room Wifi was new to us but no biggie....we downloaded some movies/series etc. before we got there and also downloaded some more when we were there either by sitting by the pool or at Buho's.....or, at the end of the hallway closest to Buho's....different experience for us but actually nice to be completely unplugged from reality. We have stayed all over the Island except for Centro. Each previous time we kept a golf cart for the entire week so it was nice to save a bit here because we just didn't need it every day....everything was so close to walk to which was a really nice change. Never had an issue with loud music from the Bar etc. as reported by several others. Also never had an issue with service. The front desk staff were on the most part very pleasant and reacted to any issue that we had promptly. I have never been to IM and not experienced some kind of power outage or water issue so this is hard to blame on the property itself. The longest that we were without power was really only a couple of hours and seemed to be all of Centro if not more and the water pressure was very good and hot or cold as you wanted it. The ability to flush toilet paper when on IM is also a common request from every property that we have been to.....small island + tons of tourists = drainage issues. The pool was smallish but clean and we rarely saw more than 3-4 ppl there at a time.....many times empty. We paid approx. $1250 each which included flight from Toronto/Canada and accommodations (tax included). A few years ago I would not have thought that this was a deal but with todays pricing it was as good as it gets....especially considering that we didn't even need to put on shoes to walk to the beach.....50 steps at the most from our doorway. We did a ton of research on this place so there were absolutely no surprises. I love touring the Island so a full-time golf cart is something we always treat ourselves to but there is really no need to have it every day when this close to the action so, this time, we only rented on 3 or 4 of the days. I also tried a scooter this year for the first time.....I was always intimidated and scared to crash but, after a while, I got the hang of it and was very comfortable booting around especially early morni

The best location on Isla Mujeres. It is also a relatively large hotel on the island. The front desk service is very good. The room has been upgraded. It has a large space and a suite with a front view of the sea. The hotel's exclusive beach is across the road but very close. The texture is fine and white, and the waves are not big. It is very suitable for swimming and the experience is great!
