I booked Simonstone Hall as my partner was running the Spine Challenger South, finishing in Hawes. I thought the hotel looked lovely on the website photos but they honestly don't do it justice - its even more beautiful in person. The views over the terrace are remarkable and the building has so much character. The welcome on reception was very warm, and we were even lucky enough to get a complimentary room upgrade to a Principle suite which was just stunning, with the best views I've ever had in a hotel room. I checked in on my own whilst waiting for my partner to finish his race, and then we both returned later. Needless to say after 108 miles, my partner couldnt face walking down to the restaurant for dinner, but Simonstone staff couldn't have been more accommodating, cooking a fresh burger for me to take back up to the room for my partner after I'd finished my meal, so that he had a hot meal and to save him walking down the stairs to the restaurant. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, the interior beautiful, and we will definitely be returning for a longer break to enjoy more time at this gem of a hotel

My wife and I stayed at Simonstone for 5 nights. From the time we walked in we fell in love with it. We were greeted by Jo, who greeted us by name before we said a word. We were just getting over food poisoning and asked her if we could check in early as we were still not feeling well. Jo took us to the drawing room to wait and offered us tea or coffee. We were then greeted by Connor, who after learning we weren’t feeling well offered us soup from the restaurant. The only thing my wife felt like eating was mashed potatoes, which was not on the menu. But, Connor checked with the chef who made them special for her (thanks, John!) Jo was able to check us in early and the room was one of the most beautiful we have ever stayed in. It had modern amenities, but kept the old charm. The views were unmatched. We woke up every morning to the sound of sheep and the peacocks who lived outside the hotel. Breakfast every morning was fantastic. Both Connor and Dan knew exactly what we wanted every morning. We ate dinner twice at the restaurant and food was fabulous. We met the head chef, John, who even offered to cook us special seafood dinners if we preferred something not on the menu. The experience could not have been any better. The hotel and location are perfect. We are already planning our trip back next year. Thank you Jo, Connor, John and Dan!

I base my review as a solo walker. I did not stay over night and I did not eat. Decor? Lounge very faux bordering on pastiche and reflective of the place as a whole that has seen far better times. Rather pretentious with a distinct air of a down at heal provincial theatre playing to lost audiences. Fawlty towers goes some way in painting an accurate picture but not the whole way. It’s not all bad, there one or two items of furniture that deserve a second look and the garden furniture is top notch which in all probability will appeal to the nouveau riche country set. Beer? Very ordinary though very pricey. I settled for the larger which was quite good but a little attention to the chiller would produce dividends I think. Wine list appeared tied, urban and displayed little verve or imagination. Is the cellar stocked from the wholesaler in Preston? Food? Fairly run of the mill fare looking at the menu which in its self was laborious to read. Not exactly pompous but some what over stated. Decided not to eat on this occasion and settled for a very expensive bag of potato crisps. Service? Young lady at the bar seemed attentive, competent and pleasant. Manager (Jack?) seemed rather prissy and sufficiently pre-occupied to bother to say hello when I entered. You wont find any bacon sarnies, Mild beer or whippets at Simonstone Hall but then you would be hard pushed to find a passing resemblance of a genuine 4 star hotel. Very pretentious, very pricey and very drab. This is my second visit and regrettably my last I fear. I hear there is a far superior inn down in the village of Hardraw which may be my next port of call.

This hotel has to be the most beautiful and luxurious place I have ever stayed at. I stayed for two nights and I wish I could have stayed longer! The rooms are lovely, the beds are so comfortable, the high quality decor and overall countryside warmth of the hotel is just perfect. We had dinner on the first night and I don’t think I’ve ever had a meal with that kind of 5 star quality before! Even the afternoon tea the following day was so delicious and laid out perfectly. The chefs are so skilled and you can tell they take pride in their work. Every single member of staff were so welcoming and were really tentative throughout our stay. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and I was just so grateful. Jake really does have an amazing team here in all departments. Every single one of them deserves appreciation. Thank you to everyone for making this the best experience. Holly & Chris

A lovely 2 night stay, we were made to feel welcome the moment we arrived. Lovely spacious ground floor room with a unique bath and Archie loved looking out of the window at the Peacocks. Food and drink were of fantastic quality and the standard of service was superb and everyone loved to chat which gave it a friendly family atmosphere. We have already re booked.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and we absolutely loved it! The building is beautiful, and our room was amazing. The food and drinks were brilliant, we booked the bed, breakfast and dinner package. All the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A card was given to us celebrating our anniversary and some lovely chocolates as we left. We will definitely come back to enjoy the terrace in summer!

My first visit to this fabulous place in a beautiful location in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. What a lovely drive up to it. I was really taken with the beautiful decor ..gorgeous set up of the restaurant and the character this place holds is amazing. Food was very tasty and wonderfully presented. I had the Ploughmans which was plentiful in fact I struggled to finish it. Their home made cheese and onion warm bread was delicious ..chutney amazing and cheeses yummy 😋 Staff are very friendly and helpful..all work extremely hard..special mention to Dan Connor and Jake who go above and beyond. Looking forward to a summer visit sitting on that beautiful patio soaking up the views with a cold one and a stay over in one of their outstanding rooms Thanks to all at Simonstone..I'll be back

My husband and I had a lovely stay at Simonstone Hall this previous weekend. We arrived early and headed straight to the bar where we had some excellent drinks, enjoyed the views, and watched the peacocks. We were informed our room was ready (We had room 5), and I was not disappointed. The room overlooks the main entrance and had amazing views. My husband loved the shower (and now wants one similar at home). We'd booked the dinner package. The food was outstanding. I loved the mackerel starter and I had food envy over my husband's main- "All about the chicken". The staff was lovely and made us feel really. welcome. We were made bespoke cocktails and it was lovely to have a bar with a proper selection of rose wine as I'm really fussy.
