This hotel is rather like an oasis in the bleak desert of Hartlepool. It is situated as the title of the hotel suggests, in a large grand old building. It is undergoing a great deal of restoration and some of the features were outstanding such as the wonderful painted fresco on the brick wall of the dining room. Truly awesome. We had a large room which was nicely re vamped but was unfortunately let down by the en-suite which needs attention. The bar area has been beautifully restored with frescos depicting local scenes and the price of the drinks was extremely reasonable. Bar staff were friendly but some of the clients were a little dubious including a young man who did not hesitate to tell us he’d just come out of another bar establishment (HMP). Nevertheless he was also friendly as were nearly all local people we met. Breakfast was included in our break and was very good served by a friendly local young lady. Overall a very nice hotel.

The staff are a credit to this hotel. Really friendly, welcoming and go the extra mile. The hotel is nearly fully refurbished and the lift was not in operation so the young man on reception was kind enough to carry our luggage upstairs for us. They seem to be short staffed with the staff on duty multi-tasking, although they are very busy it's always service with a smile. The stair, corridors and bedrooms have all been newly carpeted and the rooms refurbished. Bedrooms are well equipped with really comfortable beds and pillows. The bar area is modern and relaxed although the bar seemed short staffed. Thank you to the staff for a lovely stay

Amazing! Felt so looked after, Anne and Irene are friendly, considerate and an asset to Best Western. Comfortable stay, there’s still some renovations taking place but didn’t affect the quality of our stay. The staff made us feel very welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, plenty to do, lots of easy to reach places - fabulous

The staff couldn’t be more helpful and welcoming and the location is top drawer. 3-4 min walk from the station, on the doorstep of everything on the town. Comfortable room, great value, location and welcome counts for a lot, although yes it possibly needs a bit of an upgrade. I stayed one night and had a comfortable stay

The hotel, location and free parking were perfect for our short break. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous, well equipped with comfy beds and spotless. The first class breakfast was cooked to order. But it is the staff that really made it something special. Ann, the general manager checked us into our room, ensured our needs were met and this set the scene for the rest of our stay. The service was personal, nothing was too much trouble and we couldn't find fault with anything or anyone. The bar was great too, again lovely staff. Will definitely be back xxx
