We booked this hotel for a 3 day get away to York. The hotel is well situated off Tadcaster Road, near a woodland path which leads to York racecourse, so is very popular for those who go to the horse racing. Free parking is given on the hotel’s ground, but be warned make sure you go to reception and put in your car registration details in their computerised system otherwise you will be issued with a parking fine from the company who operates CCTV monitoring for the hotel. We booked the hotel through the IHG website, as an IHG Gold member we were given an option of an early checkin for a fee of £20.00 and an upgrade of £45.00. We took advantage of both offers, subject to availability on arrival. Unfortunately this wasn’t possible on arrival, and we weren’t able to check in until nearly 3pm. We were given the upgrade of a room on the top floor. The room had a small fridge with complimentary water and a chocolate bar, slippers, and dressing gowns. The toiletries, conditioner, shampoo, body lotion, are all in fixed to the wall containers. The bath room had a large walk in shower which was quite powerful, but space to hang towels, put personal toiletries was very minimal, and I was thankful that I took a plastic shoe type hold-all and a suction hook which I attached to the shower door to put our toiletries in, otherwise they would have cluttered the sink area. The bathroom was very small, and the door needs to be closed to get any room to do what is necessary in the bathroom. We booked a deal of dinner bed and breakfast. This was a disaster. We went for dinner and just about everything on the menu wasn’t available. Eventually we ordered a burger and chips. After about 30 minutes the food arrived. It was the worse burger and chips I have ever tasted. The burger was burnt on the outside, raw in the middle, the bun was burnt, the chips were very brown, which tasted of fat. We picked at the food as we were so hungry but it wasn’t nice, and hardly edible, in fact what I ate made me feel quite sick afterwards. We complained to reception, who apologised, and said that chefs in York were really hard to employ, and offered to refund the dinner to our account. We said that if this was the case, we would rather not eat dinner in the hotel, and could they please refund the dinner portion from our account for the rest of the stay. We had breakfast for the next 3 mornings, but it wasn’t marvellous, often dishes weren’t refilled when emptied. Some staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing, and others didn’t seem to be that bothered, or concerned, about the guests in the hotel, possibly some more customer service training could be beneficial all round. For the remainder of the stay we ate our evening meal in the pub across the road, which was really good. We had our Ladies night there on Sat 2/3/24 & the whole experience was nothing short of fantastic .... the room was great , the staff excellent & Lee who led his staff made the whole night flow .....the food was also very good & the portion size was good ....so in summery if you are looking for a venue then this is it !!!!!!!

I visited the hotel as I was visiting family in the surrounding area. It’s a nice hotel with good facilities, but, what stands out and makes this hotel top tear is the the staff members. Chantelle, the late duty manager made us feel at ease from the second we entered the building, throughout check in and more. We couldn’t have asked for a warmer welcome. Macey from behind the bar was the most caring and kind person! Ensured we were okay, and enjoying out time. Elle ensured we had a smooth first night, made us feel like we were valued and was so lovely!! The three of these ladies make this hotel!!! Such a credit!

The century-old hotel has been renovated, and overall it's OK. The room provided was also very small. It was basically just up the stairs next to the hotel lobby and you were on the first floor. The bathroom was relatively large and the bath water was very small. It was difficult for girls to wash and dry their hair because they had so much hair. The Christmas atmosphere is very good, the bar is good, and there is York local beer. Hotel guests park for 7 pounds per day. They must inform the front desk and prepay the parking fee when checking in, and then park in the parking space, otherwise there will be a 100 pound fine! The location of the hotel is very good. It is about 2 kilometers away from the internet celebrity check-in point in the center of York Town. It takes 49 minutes to walk. It is very cheap and convenient to call Uber! Ordering takeout is also very convenient. There is a gas station and a 24-hour convenience store diagonally opposite the hotel. Two steps outside the hotel is the holiday inn, york university and tesco supermarket, which is very convenient. Looking at the map, it is also very close to an outlet. All in all, it's far from the center of town but very convenient! Lotus caramel biscuits will be prepared in the room. You can go to the front desk to get disposable slippers and toothbrushes, which are not available in the room. Possibility of late check-out at 1 o'clock. The room seemed to have two air conditioners but no remote control. It suddenly turned on and off more than a dozen times a night, which was quite scary, but after all, it was a century-old hotel. Marriott’s Platinum Ambassador Card does not include any benefits such as breakfast. Overall, staying overnight is okay after all, the price is cheap!

My friend and I booked an afternoon tea for ourselves and our 6 year old daughters. What an experience it was... the girls were treated like princesses. The service was fantastic, and the staff were so good with the girls, even offering them an ice cream at the end! The food was beautifully presented and tasted incredible. A great variety. The scones were spot on, and the girls were so excited with the cakes. Youssef was fantastic and attended to all our needs, we told him on the way out it was the best afternoon tea we have ever had. I can't recommend this place enough,.. beautiful surroundings, gorgeous food and a wonderful experience for us and the girls.

Really quirky pub with a warm welcome, good food and friendly locals . OK it's slightly shabby in places and could do with some TLC, but it's clean and great value for money. We had a lovely view of the Abbey. The bed was comfy and we had a good night's sleep. The breakfast was plentiful and freshly cooked to order. The traditional and veggie breakfasts were great. Will stay again. Thanks to all the lovely staff for a fab Xmas break.

What a beautiful little gem, just 20 minutes walk to York city centre so we left the car all weekend, also on a great bus route with a no.7 passing every 15 minutes. Lovely pleasant rooms with cute wallpaper and comfy bed, good power shower too! Delicious breakfast and sausages, very helpful and accommodating owners/staff good communication from Paul before arriving. What a lovely stay and thank you for making our belated anniversary special. Andy and Toni x

From the minute I arrived the staff were extremely polite, professional and showed a genuine desire to help. The bedrooms are of a very high standard with everything you could possibly need. The bed was extremely comfortable (to the stage that I struggled to get up the following morning). The food in the restaurant was exceptional. It is rare to find a hotel that can balance between excellent service in a relaxed yet informal setting. If you are travelling on business or pleasure the York Pavilion hotel is a must. Congratulations to all the staff you are all doing a truly fabulous job.
