I will say that our stay didn’t start great but ended really well. I do think that for the price of the hotel (about $400 a night) and the fact that we were there for 6 nights I felt that we were a bit let down. I had read on lonely planet that this pousada cares about the service, but I don’t know if it’s any better or worse than other places. Firstly I tried booking scuba diving with them through WhatsApp as they recommend. At first it took many reminders. And then they sent me a form in Portuguese so I gave up. I just booked myself with another dive shop because it was easier. Secondly, I had told them in advance many times that I’m vegan, and the hotel prides themselves on having many vegan options which is great since it’s rare in Brazil let alone on a tiny island. Well long story short they had two mishaps on serving me animal products before finally this being an issue that brought an apology from the manager, which was very appreciated, but for a hotel of this price and supposed to be luxury, I was really upset. I did even try to say “com leite, com ovo?” but long story short that was misunderstood, so it’s not like I didn’t try. This left me to tears, frustrated that this could happen when I explained many times especially since this place is supposed to be luxury (sure priced as one). Also we were on the island to scuba dive everyday (highly recommend by the way), so we had to have breakfast at 6:45 everyday which they accommodate even though they start at 7. But what we didn’t know was since we were there early that they actually served cooked food from a menu to order. Since we were there everyday so early, we had no idea we could order food from menu. It wasn’t until the last day I realized that they served vegan options like tapioca (since on the last day we didn’t scuba dive). So yeah, again, another thing to be disappointed when paying such a high price. Apart from that the location is 5 star. Very central, so you really don’t need to pay for taxis unless going to the other side of the island. Three beaches are walking distance, and many restaurants nearby. But yet it’s away from the hustle and bustle (although located down a steep slippery hill so if you have mobility issues reconsider). The staff at the reception (Kelly, Dana, Mariana) were all lovely. Kelly was especially kind to me when I got sick and took me to the hospital. The bartender was really sweet, too. And apart from the serving me wrong food thing, the restaurant staff were nice despite the language barrier. Great restaurant food options too. I think in the end, it did leave me with a bad taste that I was charged full price for the meals when I don’t think it was fair. For example for first night meal where they served me wrongly they still charged me the normal price or that the vegan accommodation food of a fish dish was charged the same price as the regular meal even though the only difference was that it was served without fish so the portions are
