The super friendly personnel who did everything they could to make our stay unforgettable, the fantastic food and the wine tasting are just a few things to recommend, what about the wellness and whole entourage? Again fantastic, everything made it into a remarkable and very pleasant stay. What more can one ask for?

This is one of the nicest and most beautiful hotels that we have ever stayed at. It is historic and beautifully remodeled. Everyone who works there had such positive energy. We were absolutely thrilled to have found the Hotel Baren Durrenroth and want to come back soon. Thanks again for taking care of our personal item that was left there. We appreciate you! PS. Also, the food at the restaurant is amazing.

Very nice location. Friendly and helpful staff. And the food ,, ohhhh what was that good. Finally a restaurant with a veggie menu with love !1 The room had everything that was needed for my trip. The only downside was that a had no desk in the room, so I had to work on the laptop in bed.

After friends recommended this place and room number 12 (small but very efficient and great view of the garden), we booked. We could not have been more pleased. It truly is a romantic hotel and the experience is intimate, friendly and of a high quality. One small complaint, but for some reason it did not truly effect our sleep - the matresses were rather soft with a dent. The pillows were excellent as well as the bedding itself. The spa is just wonderful, but do not go just before Apéro as it will be rather full. But any other time and we basically had the entire spa to ourselves. It is lovely to have access to Tea and small condiments. It is entirely clean and hygenic. The whirlpool could have been a little warmer, but was still nice. Breakfast seemed a bit chaotic on our first morning. Bacon and eggs were out, and I asked when it would be refilled and she just shruggered her shoulders. As we left, we saw them finally filling the bacon - such a shame. The Sopf (Sunday Bread) was of an excellent quality and consistency as was the Plume jam and Birchermüesli. Our second breakfast had no faults and we were even able to buy a Sopf for Sunday at home (such a treat). It is all about consistency. Diner both nights was absolutely excellent and worth the price. Service was top drawer and fun - we really enjoyed ourselves. Now for those complaining about the price, go with the Half-*****on, Yes, it does seem like a lot of money, but when you break it down between hotel and food it is more than fair. We will most definitely come back next year.

We started our romantic vacation week driving our oldtimer Citroën Traction Avant through the Emmental to the Hotel Bären Dürrenroth. Somewhat confusing two stately guesthouses are situated across from one another: the “Bären” is the restaurant, the “Kreuz” is the actual hotel. They have a garage with free overnight parking and an elevator that brings you directly to the reception area. The hotel staff was friendly and informative. I booked the Romantic Suite with it’s own whirlpool bath and it was charming! The suite is filled with beautiful antiques. It is on the ground floor with a lovely view of the gardens, for more privacy just close the long cream colored curtains and the room is set in a beautiful glow. For a small extra charge (Fr. 19.-) the room was romantically decorated with artificial rose petals, candles and a remarkable sweet chocolate thingy (yum). There are complimentary scented oils for the whirlpool bathtub and fluffy bathrobes and slippers. There is a music player in the room with a selection of romantic music (next time: bring my own). The restaurant has one small flaw: the staff is not very attentive. Coffee in the afternoon: there was one table left, not yet cleared off, though the waitress said she would “come right back” it took ten minutes until anyone came out again. Then it was a man who seemed to be the manager, who asked if we had ordered yet. He cleaned the table when we told him it wasn’t ours. Another ten minutes later two espressos finally came. Apero: again in the garden, where another couple was already seated. After 10 minutes, the other man got up to order directly in the kitchen, they had been there a while he said. We had an Emmentaler Plate with different cheeses, pickled radishes (lovely!) and charcuterie for the meat eater. Dinner was inside and - though full - everyone had there own little niche to eat in. Dinner was fantastic. The regional steak came with a polenta cube filled alternately with morelpaste. I preordered the “Rösti” (Swiss specialty, like hashbrowns) off the lunch menu. Very crunchy, eggs on top super creamy, perfect and up to my expectations. No room for desert though. For small eaters one plate is enough. The bed is super comfortable, the breakfast buffet is in the restaurant and you have your same dinner table. At check out, they give you a complementary bottle of elderflower syrup from the region. Great place for a weekend getaway!

Eight out of ten people in the region recommend this as "the romantic place to stay at". So our expectations were high. Here's what we found: Ambience: The hotel comprises several houses. You feel almost like being part of this picturesque little village. This is great, even in spite of the road between the restaurant and the hotel. There is a nice "flower garden" behind the house. Restaurant: Dinner: Service was professional and charming. The food was great. There was a mishap which was then treated with excellency. Breakfast (we are breakfast lovers): Everything there. Presentation of buffet does not even aspire to meet the standard of the evening meal, but it's o.k. Service friendly, slow, barely just o.k. (You can feel that breakfast ist not regarded the thing to shine.) The restaurant has a number of different rooms, most are exceptional, typical local style, comfy yet elegant. Hotel: Room: Beautiful, tidy. The rooms in the roof (2nd floor) are rather dark, the windows small, but the nice decoration makes more than up for that. There is a variety of suites available. Bathroom: The bathroom floor gets really wett when you take a shower (there is a curtain but it does not reach the floor). The fine water spray of the shower is rather greedy but one can get by. The bathroom looked almost identical as the one i had in a hospital a few months ago... Wellness: Well made, on several floors, rather narrow. Opening hours are limited. Reception: Friendly. Limited service ours. All in all we got a feeling of a wonderful place, very friendly and professional, but somehow, the ambience was more strenuous than we would have it. Service is ambivalent: very forthcoming, friendly, sometimes excellent, sometimes wanting. We recommend the place if you are looking for a nice get-away.
