Yungang Meigao Hotel

The service was very good, one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in! Several unexpected things: The first one was to be arranged in a high-floor ancient city view room, especially at night, the night view of the ancient city was amazing. The second one was that I was given fruits and desserts as soon as I checked in, and two tickets for bathing on the sixth floor of the hotel, although I didn't use them. The third thing is that I didn’t expect to receive local special souvenirs after check-out, including aged vinegar, millet, millet crispy rice, rock-grilled cheese, small twists, and nut crisps, a total of 7 items and 9 items. The hotel is located very close to Yongtai Gate, the south gate of the ancient city, and can be reached within ten minutes' walk. The hotel's breakfast is rich in variety, and dinner can be ordered a la carte on the second floor of the hotel. You must stay at this hotel again during your next trip to Datong.

The breakfast tastes average and the variety is quite rich. The facilities are old and the water faucet should be improved.

The room type we booked was very comfortable, and the bathroom with double basins was very spacious. Unfortunately, this room type only faces south and cannot see the ancient city of Datong. There are fruits and snacks in the room every day. It is better to put the yogurt in the refrigerator. The breakfast is rich in variety and basically has everything. We are rushing to travel every day. Although breakfast starts at 7:00, we can basically eat it at 6:45.

Facilities are old. Not enough quality. For example, the hair dryer was too small and had no hot air. I kept asking for a larger one and said that other people would also use it. The water in the shower is hot and cold, and the water temperature is unstable. One moment is very hot, and the other is very cold. This may be a problem with the cheap water mixing valve.

Everything else about the hotel is good. The only drawback is the breakfast, because you can’t bring your children if they haven’t woken up early. It’s a little lacking compared to the Yungang Jianguo next door. The staff there even brought two boxes of cakes after we had breakfast. The children are hungry on the road. Rather than wasting and throwing away, wouldn’t it be more heart-warming to take some with you?
