Hotels near Caledonian Forest Reserve in Crianlarich

The room was large and clean and the front desk reception was pleasant and helpful. The hotel lounge and dining areas were large and bright. The decor was drab and dated with extensive use of ugly carpet and wallpaper everywhere. The bizarre shower mixing valve arrangement resulted in the bath tub filling up very fast when taking a shower. The pivoting glass shower door/deflector arrangement made it difficult to impossible to keep shower spray from ending up on the bathroom floor. The bathroom door had no proper handle/latch/lock for privacy and was only held closed with a magnet. Finding parking was a horror story. All regular spots were taken and what was left was utter chaos. Everyone else had just improvised and parked wherever they could find a spot along the drive, on the grass etc... Wi-Fi did not work throughout the ENTIRE stay. The reception staff indicated that the router was likely ”overloaded”. They reset the router but it didn't help. There were no physical LAN drops in the room either. We paid 20 pounds for a breakfast that was at first non-existent (buffet style - almost empty to empty warmers). When we entered the dining area there were few people but many...most tables covered with dirty dishes, cutlery etc...After an extended wait food trickled out. In the mean time we had to search for the coffee (INSTANT coffee made en-masse). The actual food offerings were ok once they appeared but many items were reheated pre-packaged items and there were almost no heathy (fruit, plain yogurt etc...) options.

Our party travel to the Killin area on a yearly basis so we have used other hotels in the area whilst some of the other are good this is definitely the best from the smile and service recieved at reception in the bar or the restaurant educated and efficient staff who all seem to be doing their best for you .Food in the restaurant,there was a good selection and came well cooked (including the blued steak) and served with a smile.We walked the hills in the area for four days returning to our hotel,sometimes wet and always tired ,to copious amounts of hot water in the shower. We definitely recommend the hotel and will be returning next year Thank you

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment in the Rowan block which over looks the tennis courts and has great views to the loch. After reading other reviews about the dated decor, we had already set out expectations that it wasn’t going to be super modern. From the outside, the building looked tired, and from the inside, it was like stepping back to the 80s/90s. Saying that, the apartment had everything we needed. I must commend the cleaners as the apartment was immaculate. Couldn’t fault the cleanliness at all. Lots of free activities on site including a lovely warm swimming pool, tennis court, table tennis, outdoor chess and droughts, snooker and pool tables, and table tennis. We had one night at Rafters which again was surprisingly good, and ate in the other nights. There’s a good Coop in Aberfoyle just a couple of miles away for provisions. We hired a canoe from Operation Outdoor play centre which is opposite the hotel entrance. Lovely friendly staff, and reasonable prices. Lots of lovely walks for abilities on the door step. Boat trip from Lake Katrine was worth a visit. All in, we all enjoyed this holiday. This was a really reasonably priced holiday. Any future refurbishments would be good, however this would push the price up no doubt. Go here if you want a relaxing time, without the high price tag.

I would imagine that OAP coach parties love this hotel, but other guests may not have the same feelings. he hotel is in a superb location at the head of Loch Long, with rooms at the front having views of the ”Arrochar Alps”. It's also conveniently placed for Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. That's probably the best things about the hotel. The rest is mostly mundane or worse. The hotel is a bit of a 1980's time warp in places, our room was cramped with an oversized desk and chair taking up most of the available space. Dinner is a standard menu - 3 choices for each course, some good and some not so good. Lounge bar looks like it's had a recent facelift, but the bar manager did not seem at all concerned that the lager coming out of the pump warm. Breakfast was a distinctly average buffet. Staff attitude varied from very good to uninvolved. Overall i think it's trading on its location.

It is a medieval castle-style hotel with a sense of age. There is a kind white-haired British old man sitting in front of the service desk, working seriously. It feels like he has returned to decades ago, which is very artistic. In front of the hotel is Loch Lomond, with beautiful scenery.
