After arriving in Corps we checked in at Hotel de la Poste. Looks lovely, prices are a bit of a shock. We asked for a deluxe room and were told that there was one available. However, due to a problem with the water in the village we were explicitly forbidden to drink from the tap and a bottle of water would be brought up as a substitute. Moments after we saw a large number of bottles being delivered at the hotel. Later that evening we were offered a bottle at the local pizzeria as well ( pizzeria Napoleon is a nice restaurant with a good chef and good service). Back at the hotel we asked for the bottle of water so we could brush our teeth but were told that we had to pay for the bottle. ( remember, no water in your €150,- a night room and the boss lady tells you to pay for a bottle of water). So, not a pleasant experience at all. The next morning The owner of la Poste fed us some lies about us being able to brush our teeth with the water but not swallowing it and later on said that the water was only delivered that morning. So sad to not be able to admit to making a mistake. We checked out immidiatly ( without having brushed our teeth) and went to the nearest other hotel for Some breakfast and service. Conclusion: nice room, bad service!

In past years this restaurant had a reputation for unexpected blow-outs, meaning that you were served several courses (including oysters, hors d'oeuvres...) which you had neither ordered nor expected. Portions had been very large, which led some to think it was a bargain - and indeed you did save on an evening meal which you could no longer face back at home. Under new management these last several years, sanity has returned. Portions have returned to normal, and the extras have largely disappeared. We were pleased (relieved?) to find in August 2022 that there were several menu options at varying prices. The food was very good, and caringly presented. Service was fine even though a number of waiters preferred practising their English on us than practising their French, which also needed brushing up on. But that's minor. We were very pleased that we went, and enjoyed the meal from the 'free' amuse bouche at the start to the tuiles (sort of rounded brandy snaps made with almonds). We would return.

A EVITER ABSOLUMENT...
