The River Retreat Heritage Ayurvedic Resort

The restaurant is bad! They do not take food orders properly, serve cold food, food is not good, chefs are not upto the mark. The restaurant staff do not take their customers seriously! The order given was not completed saying it was not confirmed! Very bad experience!

We came to India for a wedding, and this is the resort that was booked for the guests of the wedding. Our stay was 6 days long. The family could not have picked a better place. Our room was spotless. While the bed was quite uncomfortable, it was clean and the sheets were changed daily. The bathroom was scrubbed and the floor mopped every day. In addition, the courtyard and lawn areas were swept. Our water was a bit finicky, but we got the hang of it. There were two bottles of water in the room for us every day. Three things I was most impressed with: the beauty, the food, and especially the service. The grounds were beautiful! It was nice to sit outside and enjoy the river view, especially from the pool. We had breakfast lunch and dinner most days and enjoyed every meal. I especially enjoyed the Riviera Club sandwich for lunch and the ginger fish dry for dinner. Perfection! Don’t miss a cup,or two of the masala tea. The service was top notch. From the dining room staff to everyone else, everyone was friendly, helpful, and well presented. Finally, but most importantly, Jijo. Jijo was absolutely amazing! He not only suggested places to visit, he made all the arrangements for transportation. The drivers he called for us helpful and kind of acted like your guides. Jijo was friendly, courteous, and helpful. He checked in with us to make sure our stay was everything it should be. He went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. Thank you, Jijo.

The resort is situated on the banks of the river and has a good frontage. Having said that the ***agement has not capitalised on the that. It is one of the better places in the area but falls short of what they tout to be. We stayed in the new wing and not the cottages and the rooms are fairly large with balconies facing the water. Pretty minimalistic and cleanliness averages around 70%. Customer service is almost nil though they are polite. We a unit with two rooms and a common lounge area and were never in possession of either of the bed room keys not did the key card work on most occasions. The spa in the new wing is a scam and a sham. It was so dingy and dubious. The therapist was a novice and literally ran out after a while though they had collected the full amount. Please inspect the place before you pay. The ayurvedic spa was rated at 6/10 by my friend. Food was fine and on the last day they served breakfast a la carte. They serve alcohol only in the bar area. Plenty of good restaurants down the road so its better to eat out. A good location to travel around the area though.

The property is beautifully located surrounded by water and rice fields, the garden in front of the restaurant is very well kept with lights at night. Bedrooms are really basic and in urgent need of a refurbishment, could have been cleaner. Hot water was on and off and the shower was very slippery. Food was good but the service was slow. Front desk reception particularly unhelpful. Not recommended unless you really have to sleep in Cheruthuruthi.

This is probably one of the better properties in this area and our stay was comfortable. The rooms were clean and large but signs of damage was visible in ***y places and left unattended. Avoid the spa inside the building, I ran out without a second thought. They have an Ayurvedic center the services of which are average. The staff at the restaurant are grumpy and behave indifferently and we have to ask them for water, cutlery etc. Having said this, I must also say this place is value for money.

Tucked away in a cozy corrner of Cheruthuruth *****side the Bharathapuzha river this beautiful property is one of my favourites among Kerala resorts. Have had several stays including Family Meets with 30people The resort has all the ingredients for a relaxed weekend...like beautiful infinity pool, lovely restaurant with tasty fare, courteous staff, ayurvedic treatment,gym, a cute bar, a lazy walk into nearby market area and a gazebo overlooking river . Overall it's a place i would visit again and again and would recommend to anyone going to guruvayur or passing by shoranur for a memorable stay.

Poorly ***aged appointments at the spa and all They say "yes" " yes" but then cancel. See image for details. I booked massage and spa appointment. Called multiple times to confirm but no response. They said wait but no one called. Finally I moved for breakfast thinking all should be well and reached for my appointment. They refused me stating they got another appointment from reception.
