This was our third stay at Calhoun House Inn & Suites. We love the view of the mountains, sitting in a rocking chair on the porch with a cup of something hot to drink, the cozy fireplace, the easy walk into town for food, and the quick drive to scenic hiking spots. There are thoughtful modern updates in this lovingly restored historic building, and we also love the owners!

When you pull up you immediately see what looks like two apartments with stuff and trash cans and things just sitting out on a porch. No cars just you and then a really nice guy walks up to tell us that the place is fully stocked when you walk in, when I asked if they had somewhere to grab coffee or something it had been 5-hour drive. He was right when you walked in they had everything from breakfast cereal to Coco anything that you want. Even went out and bought a couple donuts and had milk in the refrigerator. So it's hard for me to say this is average especially since I travel globally. But then we had to go to a closet and pull out sheets in a blanket to make up a sofa because there was only one bed in the 3 room suite. It was just us and two small kids. It's just one of those things where they have taken lipstick and put it on a pig and did a very good job by the way but when you're paying almost $400 after taxes for one night.. It's impossible for me to give it glow in reviews.. just woefully overpriced for a one bed place to stay for night even though it had cereal and coffee milk and the other things I stated. In hindsight once we got there and we went for the polar Express, their places we couldn't stayed for a third of that that would have done the trick. So I'm not saying this is a dump by any stretch, it's an old either hotel or apartment complex that they made into a What looks like five or six room hotel. And again they put a lot of neat personal touches and Ed the owner seem to be a really nice guy... But when we read the reviews we got a very different impression so I just have to give you something else to consider you make the judgment when you get there...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Calhoun House Inn and Suites. Cozy, and comfortable, and the porch sitting is the best. Easy stroll to downtown, the train station, and restaurants. Ed and Shirley are friendly, helpful hosts who enjoy chatting and sharing their insights on the area. A great stopover between Gatlinburg and Asheville. Highly recommend staying here.

What a great find Calhoun House was. The rooms are mini suites with plenty of room for the stay. The building is charming and historic and the rooms are tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Special mention must go to the range of essential provided on arrival, complimentary apple pastries from a local bakery, fresh milk in the fridge, tea, coffee, breakfast items and snacks. The hotel had lovely views over the mountain opposite and it was lovely to sit out on the deck in the evening with a glass of wine and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the place. It was very convienient for Bryson City centre and the Smoky Mountain Railroad. Bryson City was lovely little place with nice shops and restaurant and walking back in the evening felt very safe. Ed and Shirley called by for a chat and were good to talk to, their hotel is a credit to the hard work they have put into it and we have no hesitation in recommending to other travellers.

My wife and I stayed at the Movie Gallery Suite for two nights. We found it to be very comfortable and enjoyable! The suite was well supplied and clean. The location was ideal for our needs as we were able to walk into town in just a couple of minutes. We also took a train ride on the GSMR and we were easily able to visit the three waterfalls in the area. We truly enjoyed the history of both our suite, and the Calhoun house. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

I would recommend Calhoun house to others. The fact that this is a remodeled and updated 100 year old hotel was fascinating to me. Our suite was wonderfully decorated with above average furniture, accessories , nice hard wood floors and ceilings, nice linens and felt like home. They provided a nice basket of breakfast treats along with a refrigerator stocked with drinks and bagels. The ONLY thing I found to be inconvenient was that there was only one mirror in the house. It was just my husband and I so we made it work but that would be my recommendation to maybe install a ling mirror in the closet or stand-alone mirror in the bedroom I loved the location! It was so close to the downtown area and took minutes to walk there. Many food and shopping options in the downtown area. We wished we could have been able to stay longer and enjoy more of the amenities in the Calhoun house but we have no regrets! Stay there! It is a real treat

We stayed in the Tree House and it was perfect. It was close to everything in Bryson city. There was plenty of room, the porch was enjoyed by everyone and the fridge was well stocked. Thank you for the pastries, snacks, bagels snd drinks! We enjoyed meeting and conversing with Ed. If we return we will surely stay here!

The owner’s Luke Hyde and his wife are two of the nicest people I have met. Their hospitality is unmatched period. Their concern is your comfort and your experience. Look, do yourself a favor and stay with them! It’s like staying at your mother’s house! I was truly overwhelmed by their generosity and love for people. Stay with them and spend some time on their porch enjoying their conversation and rocking chairs. You will be blessed.
