It was a gift to my father for his 50 years and he had an incredible time. He says the facilities are awesome and the food was second to none. And not to mention the excellent service! Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the hotel stay. We had 2 rooms because there were four of us traveling. The SMELL of the rooms were so musty. I avoided staying in the room (besides sleeping) because it was overpowering. The AC did not dry out the air and get rid of the mustiness. The rooms were run down and faucets were rusty. The bathroom toiletries did not have a good scent nor were they good at cleaning (ex: shampoo, soap, lotion). Very bad quality. I will not return to any RIU property after this.

Riu palace Punta Cana is a beautiful resort with great staff. The food is very good and it has the nicest beach we've ever seen.

The good: Location and grounds are beautiful; the food is average (for an all-inclusive); the pools are good; the shows are family-friendly. No problem getting into the restaurants, or drinks at the bar.
The bad: About half of my interactions with the staff were lass than satisfying. Many of the staff (especially the younger female staff) were unhelpful, had elitist, condescending attitudes, and acted as if the hotel guests were bothering them. Picture if the DMV was operating your all-inclusive... On several occasions I had to "correct" the staff about how much something cost (overcharging). The worst intersection was at the SPA when the receptionist rolled her eyes, and walked away in the middle of a transition without a word. I was rarely greeted when entering a restaurant, spa, or bar. Sort of poor attitudes throughout. I emphasize that this was not all of the staff, but enough to leave a negative impression of the resort.
This was my first trip to DP, so it is unclear if this is a cultural issue toward Americans/males/whites/tourists, or a staff training problem for RIU. If I return to Punta Cana, I won't be staying at a RIU property again.

We had the most enjoyable stay at Riu Palace Punta Cana. The staff is so friendly and fun. The resort is clean and well kept. The dining options were numerous. ******* offers a free shuttle to and from the airport. Alfredo and Ambiorix with destination services were awesome to work with. Our only complaint would be the that the breakfast buffet was not very good. The food was typically cold and kind of stale. Otherwise 5 stars, 2 thumbs up, 10/10 would recommend.
