Coylumbridge Hotel

When we first arrived at the hotel we were greeted warmly and given checked in fairly quickly. I had chosen a “cosy double room” didn’t realise quite how cosy this room would be. The bed was smaller than a regular double bed and the bathroom was pretty small too. There was plenty of parking in front and behind the main hotel building. Our room was in the courtyard which was separate from the main hotel building. The courtyard is not well signposted and we were quite confused trying to find our room initially, we had to ask a cleaner for directions. Other than being small the room itself was fine. The bed was fairly comfy and there were spare pillows in the small cupboard. The room had tea/ coffee making facilities and a tv with multiple channels. The walls were pretty thin so we could hear everything the people next to us were saying so bare that in mind. The bathroom appeared clean at first but upon further inspection the shower had spilled soap/ shampoo on the floor from the previous people that stayed there. Next to the hotel is the woodshed. The Woodshed was cosy, clean and served a variety of different snacks and drinks. Amy who works there was very friendly and welcoming and showed good knowledge of the surrounding areas. It also had popular music playing and a pool table. Dogs were welcome in this area. There was a real fireplace in here however this wasn’t lit when we visited.

I was a little perturbed after booking by the many negative and scathing reviews of the MacDonald Aviemore Resort. Our stay was far from these reviews. We (my son and I) stayed in the Aviemore Hotel, the room was large and well presented, and was really clean. The corridors were a little cold and could have done with a spruce up but nothing that deterred from our enjoyment of the hotel. Staff were really welcoming and friendly and happy to help with all our questions. The breakfast was great, lots of choice. I overheard someone asking for gluten free options and this was readily catered for. We had dinner included and chose Giovanni's for both nights. Excellent staff and food was great. We used the pool both mornings, immaculately clean and again the staff were great. After a couple of no shows on the aqua jets and a disappointed boy after trying to book, the staff gave my son a shot at the end of the session. I can't fault them at all. My son had a small accident and the staff looked after him really well and followed procedure for incident reporting. Soft play was great too, really clean and not overcrowded. The member of staff on the desk at the activity centre both mornings was such a lovely lady and went above and beyond to make sure you had everything you needed.

The all-inclusive resort hotel is convenient for skiing, but the rooms are relatively old, the resort facilities are very good, and the service staff are busy and almost hard to contact
