Hotel Taj-I Mah by les Etincelles

They bill themselves as 5* but way more effort is needed in my opinion. Breakfast was probably the worst experience. Staff lingering but doing next to nothing. Coffee machine runs out. No one resolves. Plates just pile up on tables. Room service arrives with no cutlery first time then fish instread of chicken for the kids 2nd time around. Room design was frustrating. We had an interconnecting room but with those doors opens the lights would go out and sensor would not pick you up in order to activate. Toilet lights switch off after 1 min. Shower head design does reach from centre of bath. All just silly things but no thought to actualy using the room. Room were comfortable though. House keeping I thought was very good though. Staff training would make the trip much better.

Good location and the ski shop staff were amazing but it’s not a 5 star hotel. Front desk service and food is 3 star at best, really disappointing for the cost. Terrible welcome after a 3am start, which sadly set the tone for the trip. Also, don’t use the hotel’s massively over priced airport transfer (€400 for a one way airport transfer was twice the price of booking independently - we used Cool Runnings who were brilliant). Would definitely come to Les Arcs again, but would find somewhere else to stay and would eat in much better places (Savoy, Chalet Des Arcs etc)

This was our third visit to Taj-I Mah. There had been a few issues in the past but this year everything was excellent and improvements clearly visible. All the staff were so helpful, friendly and welcoming. The service and meals in the restaurant could not be faulted, beautifully presented and a credit to the chef. Breakfast was generous, varied and to a high standard. The staff at reception always greeted us with a smile, spoke excellent English and tolerated my attempts at French!!! The ski shop/hire was superb and the best we have experienced in over 40 years. Not just because of the quality of equipment but the wonderful, fun and helpful staff. The hotel itself is perfectly situated with panoramic views, all the facilities anyone needs, a south facing terrace and is genuine ski in ski out. The bedrooms offer everything one could wish for with very comfortable bedding and excellent friendly room service. The fire in the lounge helped make the lounge area more 'cosy' with varied seating and bar. I would however prefer a more intimate atmosphere. We greatly missed afternoon tea not being on offer, which was previously. Crepes and cookies are available as an extra. We highly recommend Taj-I Mah and have already booked for next season. The hotel is splendid but it is the staff who made our stay so enjoyable. A special 'Thank you' to Jilly (in the ski shop), Elodie (restaurant manager) and Mr Thibaud (director) for always being available and approachable. ..... Appreciation to all , Joyce and Robert.

Our stay was completely as we'd hoped. Room was very comfortable, breakfast was excellent with a good range of options. The ski hire service and boot room were always helpful and very well organised. Having ski in/ski out facilities were great! Plenty of restaurants in 2000 and 1950 so we were able to eat somewhere different each night. The staff were all brilliant. The spa facilities were really nice albeit a bit busy between 5-6.30pm. Highly recommend staying here.

Thanks so much to all the team for the amazing stay, nothing was too difficult, there was always a smile at the front desk and from the room service - also excellently located and with an amazing ski shop with equally friendly staff. Only things that could be improved is the food offerings and the light which automatically turns on in the night - still 5/5 in my opinion! Will stay again!

We have just returned from a superb week’s skiing staying in the Taj-I Mah. The hotel and our room were spotless with all covid rules in operation. We felt very secure not only around the hotel but in the uncrowded dining room and lounge. The hotel itself is everything anyone could wish for. The room had wonderful mountain views. You could watch the sun rising over the mountain tops and from the balcony setting late afternoon. Returning from skiing cakes and biscuits were provided which we greatly enjoyed sitting in comfort on the terrace, with a beer. In the evenings there was always a cosy log burning fire in the lounge to relax beside with a drink. On arrival we were warmly greeted, shown to reception and cases taken to our room. The reception desk staff were very helpful, welcoming and made us feel valued. EVERY member of staff always greeted us with a smile which gave the hotel a quiet relaxed atmosphere. The ski shop staff were most helpful, efficient and fun to be with. As were the bar staff. My 75th birthday was recognised by Ludovic in the dining room and a member of the bar staff. A gesture I much appreciated. The location of the hotel could not be bettered with full unhindered mountain views and sun facing all day. You can literally ski back to the terrace and only about a dozen paces from the piste. We had a minor issue which we raised with the director. She was very understanding, sympathetic and supportive. By the time we returned from skiing the problem was fixed and in no way spoilt our time at Taj-Mah. The menu might not be everyone’s first choice but the quality of food, the way it was presented and served could not be faulted. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice. Apart from the dinner menu there is nothing I would wish to change. We plan to return next year and for many reasons highly recommend the hotel. ‘Thank you ‘to everyone for looking after us, tolerating my French, and making our holiday so special. The hotel is ski in ski out. Offers all amenities. Wonderful spa much appreciated after a hard day of skiing. The restaurant menu manages to always have a couple different options daily. Dinner starts with a soup and ends with a seemingly never ending choice of pastries or cheese. Full range breakfast buffet too. Renting from ski shop in hotel is a good plan. Top service from start to finish.

Where to begin? The positives: beautiful location and unobstructed views. Our suite was gorgeous. We chose this room to celebrate the Christmas Holiday. The attached ski shop was easy and they were very helpful. The negatives: the director of the hotel was rude and unhelpful. We signed up for half board but, the food was truly horrible. I’m vegetarian with an onion allergy and was served a bowl of beans one night and they placed dried onions on a salad that was served to me. They were aware of my allergy as they were told before our stay and during. As I explained the food situation to the Director, I was asked how long our stay would be and when told 10 days, I received an eye roll. No apology. Definitely, pass on the half board. 1950 had many food choices. When checking out, my husband spoke to the Director about the problems with the food. We stopped using the restaurant on day 4. We wanted to make sure we weren’t charged. The Director’s response was that she allowed us to bring food inside her hotel. Really? At over 1,000 per night, we need her permission to bring food inside the hotel?! Also, she replied that if we weren’t happy we could have left the hotel. We also reached out to corporate with complaints of the food, service and woes of the Director to no avail! Basically, they blamed us for complaining. What should have been a fun and relaxing Winter Break turned out to be very disappointing. If you choose to stay, pass on the restaurant and expect little from the Director and corporate response.

Great location in Arcs 2000. Easily ski in ski out. Comfortable, well equipped room with fantastic view. Reception staff all very helpful and friendly. Excellent ski shop. Unfortunately restaurants not up to standard.
