Grecotel Plaza Beach House

We stayed in a room on the ground floor looking out to sea. The room was slightly strange, it was like a self contained flat. Had some stairs to a bedroom and a bed by the door downstairs. We chose to sleep downstairs mainly for ease of bathroom but also sockets were placed on some very strange locations and none were by the beds. Some days it was cleaned well and others not so. Shower was nowhere near shower screen so was a little pointless. It was very noisy as hotel is on busy road and despite blinds, the light shone through the door. It has a tiny pool for children that is not far from road, one pool at front and another two at back but in shade. It is a 15/20 walk from the town, which is nice to wander around. We hired a car and drove round the island to see much prettier villages especially in the south. The one excellent thing was the staff, always friendly and cheerful, especially those on reception.

I felt very safe from the moment of my arrival. The cool welcome drink was just what I needed after a three hour flight. When I mentioned how tired I am the kind young man and the nice girl at the reception made the check in process easy and quick so I could quickly go to rest! The room was as described and they had already placed what I requested in the room (bathrobe and slippers) before my arrival. All the hotel employees have an air of joy and politeness. The breakfast was rich and delicious. We enjoyed the sun by the pool and walked every afternoon to the city center. I needed this break and the choice of the hotel was the best. A sense of professionalism and relaxation prevails. They had solutions for all issues! They are amazing! We will be back in three months again!

This is a great well positioned family hotel with everything you could need on your doorstep. Rethymnon is a 5 min €6 taxi ride away or a 25 min walk. You are literally spoilt for choice for places to eat and drink and can have a different type of night each time you visit. We loved the traditional tavernas in the back streets of the old town. The Beach is great with plenty of sun beds free if you buy food/drinks. Hotel beds get full by mid morning at each pool. Drinks and food are pricey at the hotel compared with local bars. My recollection is that the people in the Greek isles are warm and friendly however our experience was mixed. We were B&B but ate breakfast elsewhere every other day. It’s a good breakfast but does get busy and chaotic with a long wait for omelettes and fresh eggs. There’s plenty of choice but our fav breakfast was at Yalla just down the road. The taverna next door Vatania is excellent food is just fabulous. Be great if this hotel offered more entertainment a bit of live music or something to create a bit of atmosphere in the evening. Our room was clean and had two balconies with a double room and bunk beds in the main living/dining/kitchenette area. We had a plaza studio suite. Had a fantastic 10 days in Crete would definitely say water park and snorkelling trips are a must for families.

We have just returned from an amazing holiday. The hotel was spotless and the food was freshly cooked and delicious. A little more choice for the evening meal would have given it 5 stars! We stayed in a grand loft maisonette which was wonderful, spacious and had so much character. The beds were so comfy that I couldn't get my teenager to get up in the mornings! This hotel stands out because of the friendly staff who can't do enough for you. They go out of their way to make your holiday special and make you feel like you are the only guest there. I would highly recommend this hotel. One of my favourites.

It was our first time in Crete and the hotel was welcoming, clean and comfortable. They had also kindly upgraded us to a two-storey room without prompting, but when we asked if they could move us to a one-storey room as originally requested, the staff at the reception was super helpful and found us another room with direct access to the pool the day after. The food at breakfast and restaurant was delicious and we’d like to commend in particular Manolis - a really charming gentleman -Theodora and Ariadni for always making us feel warmly welcome and for their advice. We will miss the lovely atmosphere but we hope we will be back some time soon!

We've just returned from our stay at the Plaza where we had an absolutely fabulous holiday. We were greeted on arrival by Hercules and Thanos who, along with all the staff, were so friendly and helpful - really, nothing is too much trouble! We were upgraded on arrival to a 2 bedroom apartment (from the Petit Loft Maisonette we had booked) - it was a very spacious room with all around views that made our stay even more comfortable. The beds were extremely comfortable and the air con was very efficient, especially as we were there for two heatwaves that hit Europe! On departure, although we had to check out of our original room, Thanos arranged for us to move to another room so we could shower and change for our late departure which was extremely welcome. The hotel itself is in a great position - just far enough out from the centre of town to feel like you're away from the noise and crowds but close enough (20/25 mins at a gentle pace) to be able to walk to the Old Town and Harbour for shops, bars and restaurants, as well as to see what a charming town Rethymno is. The pool area is small with only a few sunbeds around it but as we soon realised, the beauty of this hotel is that it's only a 30 second walk across a quiet road to the gorgeous sandy beach. Umbrellas and sunbeds are plentiful and free of charge for hotel guests. There's pool bar service on the beach, delivered with a smile by two lovely girls. Breakfast was delicious and although there was a more limited selection than other hotels we've stayed at, everything was fresh and tasty. There's only a couple of small things we'd change about the hotel: firstly, better WiFi - it was pretty slow and unreliable which was very frustrating. Also, the rooms could do with a few more little touches to really elevate guests' experience - a few pictures/decorations on the walls, USB charger (or another plug point) by the bed, some soft furnishings (small sofa or a couple of chairs), enough seats for the number of occupants (there were only 2 for a 4 person room) and bigger towels (why does every hotel have tiny bath towels?!). But these are small things that would enhance what was otherwise an amazing holiday at a really lovely hotel staffed by the friendliest, nicest people you could hope for.

We arrived home this morning. From the moment we walked into the hotel, we were greeted with smiles and welcome drinks we knew this hotel was special. The cleanliness is amazing. The breakfast was great. The girls in the restaurant, servicing round the pool and the beach was an absolute credit to you. Nothing was too much trouble. We were escorted to our room which was perfect. I would only ask, please please ensure the safety of the decking boards on your section of the beach. I tripped and cut and bruised my leg on the first day and one of your waitresses on the beach tripped twice whilst we were there. That would be my only criticism, other than that. It’s 10/10!!

The photos are deceptive. Don’t be fooled. Yes, near the beach but 3 miles from old town and on a busy street. No decent restaurants close. We cancelled as soon as we arrived and we’re still billed for an extra night. Place was empty.
