Christmas Celebration
Champion dancers and 12-piece ensemble bring Piazzolla’s fiery tango to life with electrifying flair The Seven Sins of Tango is the powerful and exciting new show for 2026, bringing the smouldering soundworld of Argentine tango vividly to life. Performed by a 12-piece ensemble from the world-renowned London Concertante, the programme brings the art of tango to life in all its raw, unbridled intensity, with fresh colours from Buenos Aires filling the space with sound. The concert unfolds across seven musical chapters, each inspired by one of the deadly sins: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride. Together, they form a compelling narrative arc that explores the dark origins, passion, rebellion, and irresistible allure at the heart of tango. The programme features iconic works by Astor Piazzolla ( Suite del Diablo – Suite of the Devil) , Francisco de Caro ( Orgullo Criollo – Creole Pride ), and Jacob Gade ( Jalousie – Jealousy) , with new arrangements by celebrated pianist and composer David Gordon, breathing fresh life into tango’s sensual and fiery soundworld. Enhancing the music, two champion tango dancers appear on stage at key moments, bringing selected pieces to life through expressive choreography that reflects the emotional intensity of the score. SHARE Oxford Repair Cafe at Makespace This is our monthly repair café running from 2-5pm at Makespace on Aristotle Lane. We are almost always able to offer electrical, sewing and bike repairs, and will add additional specialist repairs (eg books, watches, tool sharpening etc) as we confirm volunteers nearer the start of the event. About this event Bring along your broken items in need of repair and one of our fabulous volunteer repairers will take a look and - if possible - show you how they can be fixed. Repair Cafés are free community events where skilled volunteers help people learn how to fix their own items to save them from ending up in landfill. The focus is on skill-sharing and an enjoyable ongoing learning process. If you'd like to learn how to do sewing or darning repairs yourself, or how to maintain your bike, please book yourself a slot and come along. Tea and cake will be available. Our services are free but we do have overheads so donations to the SHARE Oxford charity are most welcome. We kindly ask you book in a maximum of 2 items per Repair Cafe, as capacity is limited by the number of repairers, and we want to keep slots open for as many visitors as possible. Please book your tickets here. If you find that all the slots are booked please email us at repaircafe@shareoxford.org to let us know what you'd like to bring along for repair and we can advise whether we are likely to be able to accept drop-in guests on the day. Writer, traveller, veterinarian, taxidermist, barrister and philosopher Charles Foster joins us talk about his latest book. The Edges of the World We tend to think that everything important comes from the centre: from big cities, from established orthodoxies in the sciences and the arts, from the Establishment in all its forms. We think this because the centre tells us it is so, but it's a lie. It is only at the edges that we think, innovate and thrive. This book travels to the frontiers of human culture and consciousness ; to the edges of continents, of evolution, of artistic and political movements, and life itself: from a rocky precipice in the Peloponnese where the first human set foot in Europe to an ancient Egyptian temple where monotheism was invented; from St Francis, kissing lepers to the giant bird-eating mice of St Kilda. Why do we stare at sunsets? Why do we celebrate birthdays and grieve for those who are gone? Why do all adventures begin when we leave and get lost? Who has the better view of reality - the Government or the dispossessed? And what happens when we live with the knowledge that we're all teetering on the edge of the dark? Charles Foster Charles Foster is a New York Times bestselling author whose work has been longlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize, shortlisted for the Wainwright Prize for nature writing, and won the Ig Nobel Prize for Biology and the 30 Millions d'Amis Prize. He is a fellow of Exeter College, University of Oxford, and has particular passions for Greece, waves, the Upper Palaeolithic, mountains and swifts. Dan Kieran Dan is the author and editor of fourteen books, including the Sunday Times bestseller Crap Towns (the first viral internet phenomenon to turn into a bestselling book), The Idle Traveller (the bestselling Slow Travel: Die Kunst des Reisens in Germany), Three Men in a Float (the story of his journey across England in a 1957 electric milk float also recorded for BBC Radio 4) and Do Start: How to create and run a business (that doesn't run you). A travel writer for the Guardian, The Times and the Telegraph, he has given talks on a range of subjects including publishing, creative writing, fundraising, entrepreneurship and how to have ideas for places like The Idler, The Do Lectures and The European Parliament.
