Bedford Field Notes: Forests | Historical Hall
Cultural Experiences
Hear from noted forest ecologist, bestselling author, and digital storyteller Ethan Tapper on all things trees!
Join us for a lively discussion about
forests
— how they function, why they matter, and how we can better understand and care for them in a changing world.
The evening will feature
Ethan Tapper
, a forest ecologist, best-selling author, digital-storyteller, and nationally-recognized voice on rethinking our relationship with forests. Tapper is the author of
How to Love a Forest
, an internationally-acclaimed work that blends science, history, and personal experience to challenge conventional ideas about “good” and “bad” nature, invasive species, and what responsible stewardship really means. Through his writing, public speaking, and
large online following
, Tapper has become a leading advocate for a more honest, ethical, and adaptive approach to caring for forests.
He will be joined by
Rod Christie
, the long-serving Executive Director of the Mianus River Gorge, and a deeply respected conservation leader whose work has shaped land protection, stewardship practices, and public understanding of the Hudson Valley’s natural landscapes. The event will close with audience Q&A.
Copies of Ethan Tapper's bestselling book,
How to Love a Forest
, will be available for purchase and signing.
The evening will be moderated by
David Pogue
, the Emmy Award–winning journalist, author, and television host best known for his work with CBS Sunday Morning, The New York Times, and NOVA. A Bedford resident, Pogue brings curiosity, clarity, and wit to conversations that bridge science, culture, and everyday life.
