About Animation Art:
Animation art has become a valuable and important collectible because it represents a unique combination of storytelling, artistry, creativity, and cultural significance. After more than a century, animation continues to play a significant role in shaping popular culture. The characters and stories created by animators have become iconic symbols of our childhood and have inspired generations of artists, writers and directors.
Due in part to its rarity, animation art has become a highly-sought-after collectible art form. Traditional animation techniques, such as cel animation, require the production of multiple hand-drawn images on paper which are then translated to inked and painted celluloid sheets or “cels.” The cels are photographed in sequence over a background painting to create the illusion of movement in animated films and television shows. Each frame of animation is represented by a unique piece of physical art.
With the rise of digital animation techniques, traditional animation has become increasingly rare. Most studios now use computer-generated imagery (CGI) to create their animated productions, which means there are no physical drawings, cels or other pieces of physical art that can be collected. This has made traditional animation art even more valuable as a collectible, as it represents a bygone era of animation that is unlikely to ever be repeated.
