We move now to the tropical north of Queensland, complete with requisite rainforests, deep blue sea, silvery-white beaches and - most notably - the Great Barrier Reef (well, it's close by, anyway). However, Cairns is a stunning destination for lovers in itself.

What can those looking for some romance expect in the northern city? We have not one but two recommendations for you. First up, one for the adventurous couple - Cairns MustGo: Skyrail + Kuranda Scenic Railway and Rainforestation, a full-day tour of the gorgeous rainforests by train, complete with luxury transport to and from your hotel. Expect to see some true natural wonders here.

Heading to the Palm Cove is surely a must for couples - or indeed, anyone - visiting Cairns. Located about 27 kilometers north of Cairns, Palm Cove is surrounded by tropical rainforest, palm trees and white sandy beaches. It is a leisure resort worth visiting near Cairns and a popular place for newlyweds on their honeymoon.

Just 25 minutes north of Cairns Airport, this peaceful tropical community is the ideal base to connect with both yourself and the spectacular surrounding nature. Soak in the pristine stretch of sand, winding paths shaded by melaleuca trees, colourful boutiques, and award-winning spas and restaurants; or venture out to explore the World Heritage-listed wonders at your fingertips.

After that exploration, you're going to want to stay in a suitably excellent (and not to mention romantic) hotel. How about the 5-star Crystalbrook Riley, an incredible-looking hotel offering some of the most exceptional amenities in the whole of north Queensland.

The Great Barrier Reef - is there a more iconic destination? One of the planet's best-known and most spectacular natural wonders is off the coast of Queensland, with the opportunity to explore one of the the 7 wonders of the natural world surely a must for any romantic trip.

The world's largest coral reef system stretches over 2,300 kilometres (1,400 mi) over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres (133,000 sq mi), the GBR is the world's largest single structure made by living organisms. Unsurprisingly, it was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1981.

With that in mind, let us heartily recommend an experience you can buy with Trip.com - the Sunlover Cruise Full Day Moore Reef Tour. Here you can take a boat trip from nearby Cairns to the Great Barrier Reef itself, where the onboard marine biologists, dive instructors, qualified lifeguards, and cruise attendants have only one goal - to share their passion for the Great Barrier Reef. And passion is your goal too, right?

Of course, if you want to set off on your Great Barrier Reef experience, you'll need a nearby hotel - and the fantastic 5-star Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns could be just what you're looking for.

The Whitsunday Islands reside in the very centre of the Great Barrier Reef. Get up close and personal with this natural wonder, flippers in hand, snorkelling and diving the coral-laden stretch. Or avoid getting wet altogether, taking a seaplane to catch a glimpse of the natural beauty from the sky.

The coral outcrop of Heart Reef, as its name suggests, is shaped just like a heart and has become one of the country’s most recognised attractions. Best reached by plane, take in the view from above before landing for a swim in the surrounding waters of Hardy Reef.

Check out what's on offer with the Fly & Cruise - Seaplane Package. Enjoying a scenic flight over the iconic Heart Reef., it’s a day that engages all your senses, lifts your spirit and takes you into another realm.
