In 1415, the 13th year of Emperor Yongle's reign in the Ming Dynasty, Chen Xuan, then the general commander of the imperial court, dug an unusual canal along the old course of Shahe River in the Northern Song Dynasty. This is the famous Qingjiangpu. The opening of Qingjiangpu was of great significance to the smooth transportation of the entire canal and the establishment of Huai'an's status as a national central city during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and thus Huai'an was named the "Canal Capital". |
