General Post Office, Adelaide

King William Street is the main street in the Adelaide CBD and is blessed with some interesting colonial architecture, particularly the General Post Office and the Town Hall, both close to Victoria Square and other attractions, easily accessible by tram.

The General Post Office (GPO) is located at the corner of King William Street and Franklin Street on the north side of Victoria Square in downtown Victoria Square. The building of the General Post Office is still quite beautiful. It is more elegant than Adelaide Town Hall, the Adelaide Town Hall opposite to the North side, although it has bell towers. To the East is Adina Apartment Hotel Adelaide Treasury, Adelaide Finance Building. It's not far from Adelaide Central Market. The Adelaide General Post Office operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. International mail for overseas visitors can be sent to Adelaide GPO, stamped with ", left to receive ", (Poste Restante) and postcode 5000. The post office will keep the mail for up to four weeks. A symbol of the times, the first time I came to the city, the corner of King William Street and Franklin Street was the Adelaide Post Office or I was deeply impressed. Across the street from this magnificent historical building is Victoria Square. The design of the iconic post office of the times was the result of the 1866 competition, and the building was built in 1872. The building is decorated with bathed limestone and the grand old building has two floors with a huge hall on one floor. The building also features a bell tower called Victoria Tower, which is replicated from the bells of Westminster Abbey. With its Victoria Tower, the General Post Office was Adelaide's tallest building until the early 20th century. The interior is still the post office, probably one of the oldest post offices around. Traditional mail has largely disappeared from view due to the rapid development of the Internet in recent years. Indeed, most of us don’t remember the time we wrote last time. When I came here, I saw the wonderful interior of the Victorian era and felt the history scene reappeared in an instant. Tips: 1. You can easily reach it by tram 2.
