Akatarawa Forest

The Akatarawa Forest covers approximately 15,000 hectares between the Upper Hutt and Kapiti coasts, and is surrounded by three nearby rivers. Most of the forest remains in its original state, and exotic trees such as pine and eucalyptus are also planted. Most of the hills where it is located are more than 400 meters, and there are also peaks about 700 meters high. Walking, running, horseback riding, off-road biking, hunting and fishing are possible here, most notably mountain biking, which has a variety of challenging routes and is very popular.
