About Shennongjia: Shennongjia (神农架) is located in northwestern Hubei Province. Legend has it that the Chinese civilization’s earliest ancestor, Emperor Yan, also known as Shennong (神农), once used ladders (“jia”) to collect medicinal herbs here. Hence its name of Shennongjia. Shennongjia is a forestry district encompassing several large scenic areas. Its dense forests, unchanged from primitive times, are teeming with plant and animal life. The area is a World Natural Heritage Site. Shennongjia is home to the Shennongjia Savage, one of the Four Unsolved Mysteries of the World and a source of great fascination to many.
