The official name of the Berlin Wall is the anti-fascist defense wall. It is the border defense system established by East Germany on the territory of West Germany. The Berlin Wall divides Berlin into two, blocking the free flow of people between East Berlin and West Berlin. Before the construction of the Berlin Wall, about 2.5 million German Democracies fled Democracy, many of whom traveled to West Germany and other Western European countries via West Berlin. The Berlin Wall was built on August 13, 1961, with a total length of 155 km. On November 9, 1989, the German government announced that it would allow citizens to apply for visits to the Federal Republic of Germany and West Berlin. The Berlin Wall was forced to open.
