Photos of Palacio Tiradentes

The Palace of Revolutionary Heroes (Palácio Tiradentes), also known as the Palace of Independence Heroes, is a typical Portuguese building. The palace is located on the south side of the street, across the street from the November 15th Square. The exhibitions on the first and second floors of the Palace of Revolutionary Heroes tell about various historical events that have happened here from 1925 to the present, but most of the exhibits are introduced in Portuguese, and English-language guides can be rented in the hall. 1. Architectural background This place is a landmark for the formation and development of the Brazilian parliamentary tradition. The decision of the Omnibus Legislative Assembly of the Empire in 1826 changed its fate as an old prison building, the present building was completed in 1926 and, between 1926 and 1960, was the seat of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro. And it became the resident location of the lower house of the National Assembly, witnessing the convening of numerous parliaments. 2. Architectural introduction The towering stone columns at the entrance of the palace represent Brazil's freedom and independence. In the palace, there is a long corridor built around the parliamentary hall, on which are hung photos and boards introducing the parliamentary conditions of various historical periods. The Legislative Assembly is still held here every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. 3. Building naming The palace is named after the pioneer of the Brazilian independence movement and hero Tiradentes who sacrificed his life for the freedom of Brazil, and has nothing to do with the prison built here before. April 21, the day Tiradentes was executed, became Tiradentes Memorial Day and a public holiday in Brazil. In addition, Tiradentes was executed at the current square of Tiradentes.
