Visiting a cemetery in Paris might seem a decidedly morbid pursuit. Père Lachaise, however, is no ordinary cemetery. The final resting place of the Arts and Sciences' most luminous souls, and a population of 1 million plus, rightfully places it as the world's most visited cemetery. Its verdant, winding paths lead to the magnificent tombs of writer Oscar Wilde, composer Frederik Chopin, playright Molière, chanteuse Edith Piaf, rocker Jim Morrison and many, many more. The size of the cemetery can be overwhelming and extremely confusing, so best pick up a map at the conservation office near the main Boulevard de Menilmontant entrance.
