Pico House at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument has the distinction of being the first grand hotel to grace the city of Los Angeles. It was commissioned by Pio de Jesus Pico, the last governor of California under Mexican rule.

Pico House is a historic house located next to Olvera Street. I was there recently for the Taste of Italy event. The event was great with amazing food. The main issue with this house is there is no parking. There are a few adjacent lots but when there's an event or it's the weekend, the lots are all full. I drove around for 20 minutes looking for a lot with room and ended up parking almost 3 blocks down. The house itself is beautiful. It's 3 stories tall from what I can tell and is well maintained inside. The first floor is extremely spacious.I would love to go there again to attend the Taste of Italy next year if I am lucky enough to get VIP tickets again from work.

In the late 1800s this was the most luxurious hotel in Southern California. Built by California's last Mexican governor it is located across from Olvera Street. The building has been the site for a number of movies and television shows including Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Mentalist.
