The Ourika Valley in the High Atlas starts under 1 hour's drive south east of Marrakech, and offers a pretty escape from the summer heat of the city. Near the head of the valley, surrounded by the peaks of the High Atlas, is Setti-Fatma, a village which has been largely rebuilt after being subject to severe flooding in 1995. The village is a relatively quiet, typical Berber village, well worth a wander around if time permits.

Wonderful escape and day trip from Marrakech. The air is so refreshing and it's very scenic. If you can, visit some local Berber villages or houses. We had a wonderful time at a Berber House where we learned about the day to day life and saw the process of tea making.

About thirty kilometers from Marrakech, the Ourika Valley lies between the foothills of the Atlas. Despite its proximity to Marrakech, this beautiful green valley is definitely one of the best preserved valleys in Morocco.

    4/5Excellent

This valley is a summer escape for Marrakech residents, as it's much cooler up here, and the end of the road is marked by a trail up past a series of waterfalls (seven, I believe--though in terms of hiking, it's diminishing returns after the fourth). There are nice little family-friendly guesthouses all along the winding road up.
